Monday 2nd May 2016
Monday Tuesday NAPLAN—all of Upper Division Even though only Year 3 and Year 5 officially sit the NAPLAN tests each year, our entire NAPLAN class take part, so that we can monitor their growth ourselves. Tuesday will be the Language Conventions and Writing Tests Wednesday NAPLAN—all of Upper Division Wednesday will be the Reading Test Staff Meeting—3.15-5.00pm Thursday NAPLAN—all of Upper Division Thursday will be the Numeracy Test Friday Kitchen Garden Program—Gardening Any parent helpers are most welcome to come along from 10.45-11.45. This week we will be making some more sprouts, making our own organic weed killers, checking on our ‘Weed Tea’, turning and adding fallen leaves to our compost, as well as weeding. Mother’s Day Fun We hope that all of the mothers and grandmothers had a wonderful day yesterday, and were spoilt rotten by their children. The students had a great time last week, making presents and cards for the spe-cial women in their lives.
Getting Our Yoga On!
Last week both classes continued their Yoga lessons
during Sport, using the Frog Yoga positions that we
are learning about, as well as following a Cosmic Kids
Yoga lesson online. Well done to Kim
McCarron, who really pushed and pulled her body to
get into different shapes.
This week’s feature pose is Moon.
Paint Shirt Request
Don’t forget to send your child’s paint shirt in, clearly
labelled with their name, so that they can protect
their school uniform during art lessons.
A Budding Artist
Congratulations to Sarah Miller, whose painting
‘Munchin Land’ was chosen to be part of the annual
Operation Art exhibition. Every year schools across
New South Wales are invited to participate in
Operation Art, an initiative of The Children’s Hospital at
Westmead in association with the New South Wales
Department of Education. All of the artworks are
framed and exhibited at Sydney Olympic Park from
10th September-30th October. 150 are then chosen
from the almost 1000
entries, to be permanently displayed at the hospital, to brighten up sick
children’s day.
Advance Australia Fair
Here is a challenge for all of the parents out there. Upper Division are
learning about the Australian Government this term and are writing short
biographies about all of our past Prime Ministers. They
have been set a challenge, to come up with a song to help
teach people the names of all the men (and one woman),
who have taken on the job over the past 115 years.
How many of the 29 Australian Prime Ministers can you
name? See if your Upper Division child can beat you?
Cross Country
What an amazing job our students did last week, at the Young Small Schools Cross Country Carnival at
Bribbaree. We had a flood of red shirts running past us all day, with all students completing the long
course to the best of their ability. We had some fabulous results too, with six age champions on the
day—Jack, Sarah, Shania, Christopher, Archie and Adrian winning their divisions.
We have a team of 11 heading off to District Cross Country in just over a week, and they should be trying
their hardest to fit some training into their week. Remember that the course at District is very hilly (the
Young Golf Course), so build some hills into your training. Parents are asked to organise transport for
their child to and from the event (please give us a call at the office if you can’t organise anything). The
District Cross Country often finishes quite early, so students may either return home with their parents or
return to school for the afternoon. Please let us know what your child is planning on doing. Students at
District should wear their sports representative shirts and be sure to take a drink bottle.
Our District team is: Adrian, Abbie, Tennyson, Archie, Charlotte, Christopher, Lily, Shania, Mark, Peter E
and Sarah.
Thanks to all of the parents who came along to help transport and cheer, and to Penny for the photos.
