My dear parishioners, This past Monday was the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary and the month of October is usually known as the month of the Rosary. I was having a discussion with my Bible class and the rosary came up. A few mentioned how important this devotion is and others mentioned how they knew Catholics who did not pray the rosary or even dismissed it. It reminds me of a story of a young lady who went on travels to the Middle East. She came home very excited about her journey and spoke to her parish priest about it. One of the things she brought up was how everywhere she went she saw Muslims with their prayer beads known as Misbaha or Tasbih or Sibha. She thought it was wonderful how they had these prayer beads and she said to her priest “How come us Catholics do not have anything like that?” The priest just looked at her perplexed. “Yeah, Father, how come we don’t have prayer beads like the Muslims?” He responded “What do you think the rosary is?” It was her turn to be perplexed; she just never grasped that was what the rosary is. For me growing up, the rosary was just some-thing you got at your First Communion. I do not recall ever being taught how to pray the Rosary. One day when I was stationed in Germany, I came across a booklet on how to pray the Scriptural Rosary. I took it back to the barracks and I wrote out the prayers on index cards. I then went across the street to the Base Exchange to buy candles and went back to my room. I lit the candles by my crucifix, got on my knees next to my bed, spread the in-dex cards over my bed and prayed the rosary. I enjoyed it so much, I prayed it two more times that day. The rosary became a constant companion in my pocket. I have lost count of the number of rosaries that have fallen apart in my pocket over the decades. Since my arrival to our par-ish, I have started using super strong rosaries made out of parachute cord that do not fall apart from Rugged Rosar-ies at cordbands.com. Since last Lent, when I encouraged everyone to pray the 54-day rosary novena, I have not stopped pray-ing it daily. I especially like praying it as I walk the neigh-borhood. Not only does walking and praying it help me, I believe many blessings come to our parish and neighbor-hood as Mary joins me on those rosary walks. You can pray the rosary at home or in church, in the car or on the train. You can use the actual rosary or use an app on the phone (which I do often). I would encourage everyone to pray the rosary, even if it is just once a week. Would it not be beautiful if families came together once a week to pray the rosary together? It would bring the family closer to-gether and teach the young the importance of prayer. We have pamphlets available to help you to learn the rosary. God bless,

Mis queridos feligreses, El lunes pasado fue la festividad de Nuestra Seño-ra del Rosario y el mes de octubre es usualmente conocido como el mes del Rosario. Yo estaba teniendo un debate con mi clase de Biblia y se habló del rosario. Algunos comenta-ron cuan importante es esta devoción y otros mencionaron como ellos conocían Católicos que no rezaban el rosario o hasta lo descartaban. Me recuerda la historia de una dama joven quien viajó al Medio Oriente. Ella regresó a casa muy emocionada acerca de su viaje y le habló al padre de su parroquia de esto. Una de las cosas que ella mencionó fue como en todas partes adonde ella fue, vio a Musulmanes orando con sus cuentas conocidas como Misbaha o Tasbih o Sibha. Ella pensó que hermoso era como ellos tenían estas cuentas para orar y le dijo a su sacerdote “¿Como así los Católicos no tienen algo como eso?” El sacerdote solo la miró sorprendido. “¿Yes, Padre, como así nosotros no tene-mos cuentas para orar como los Musulmanes?” El respon-dió “¿Qué crees tú que es el rosario?” Fue su turno de sor-prenderse; ella nunca comprendió que eso es el rosario. Para mí creciendo, el rosario era algo que recibías cuando hacías la Primera Comunión. Yo no recuerdo que nunca me hubieran enseñado como rezar el Rosario. Un día cuando yo estaba en Alemania, encontré un panfleto de como rezar el Rosario con las Escrituras. Lo llevé conmigo al cuartel y escribí las oraciones en unas tarjetas. Después fui al frente de la Base de Cambio para comprar unas velas y regresé a mi cuarto. Prendí las velas cerca del crucifijo, me arrodillé al lado de mi cama, coloqué las tarjetas sobre mi cama y recé el rosario. Me gustó tanto, lo recé dos veces más ese día. El rosario se convirtió en mi constante compa-ñía en mi bolsillo. He perdido la cuenta de cuantos rosarios se me han desbaratado en mi bolsillo a través de las déca-das. Desde que llegué a nuestra parroquia, he comenzado a usar rosarios super fuertes hechos de cordón de paracaídas que no se dañan de Rosarios Ásperos en cordbands.com. Desde la última Cuaresma, cuando yo animé a todos a orar la novena del rosario de 54 días, yo no he deja-do de rezarlo diariamente. Especialmente me gusta rezarlo mientras camino por el vecindario. Choirs at St. Mary's Looking for New Members! Do you or your loved ones enjoy singing? Of course you do! Please consider joining the St. Mary's Adult Choir! We sing once a month on the 4th Sunday of the month at the 10 am Mass and we rehearse at 9:00 am right before the Mass. St. Mary's also offers an incredible chance for children to join a choir with the St. Mary's Children's Choir! The Children's Choir meets once a week on Wednesdays from 5-6 pm to practice our songs. We perform once a month at the 10 am Mass on the 3rd Sunday of each month. Both of these choirs are growing in musical abilities, and we would love to have YOU join us! Mass Book 2020 The Mass Book 2020 is open. The Sunday 12 Noon and Friday 7:30 pm Masses will be available for multiple inten-tions. The Mass for the Purgatorial Society is the First Saturday of the month at 5:00 pm. The names of those enrolled in the purgatorial society will be listed in the bul-letin once a month and will remain for one year.

Rectory Office Closed The office will be closed on Monday, October 14 in com-memoration of Columbus Day. Church will be closed after the 8:30 am Mass. There will be NO Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament.
