Main topics in the EU Data protection reform:

• Broad territorial scope: Rules will apply to EU citizens’ and EU residents’ data, even if the data controller is not located in the EU (Article 3).

• Maximum sanctions will be substantial as laid out in Article 79 as violators will be required to pay:– 0,5 to 2 % of enterprise’s annual worldwide turnover.

• Obligation to report data breaches (Articles 31 and 32)

• Enterprises with more than 250 employees must have a Data Protection Officer to ensure compliance (Articles 35-37)

• Obligations to Demonstrate Compliance: Enterprises will be required to document and demonstrate compliance with the new rules. (Article 28).
