    Off job training

Definition:- Employee training at a siteaway from the actualwork environment. It often utilizes lectures, casestudies, role playing, simulation, etc.

This occurs when employees are taken away from their place of work to be trained.Common methods of off-the-job training include:

Day release (employee takes time off work to attend a local college or training centre)

    Distance learning / evening classes

Block release courses - which may involve several weeks at a local college

Sandwich courses - where the employee spends a longer period of time at college (e.g. six months) beforereturning to work

    Sponsored courses in higher education

    Self-study, computer-based training

The main advantages and disadvantages of this form of training can be summarized as follows:

    Advantages

A wider range of skills or qualifications can be obtainedCan learn from outside specialists or expertsEmployees can be more confident when starting job

Disadvantages More expensive e.g. transport and accommodation

Lost working time and potential output from employeeNew employees may still need some induction trainingEmployees now have new skills/qualifications and may leave for better jobs

    Off job training methods

Vestibule training: it occurs off the job on equipment or methods that are highly similar to

    those used on the job.

    Role playing:

This is a development technique requiring the trainee to assume a role in a given situation &

act out behaviours associated with that role.

Lecture Method:Here the instructor organizes the study material on a topic & offers it to a group of trainees in

    the form of talks.

    Conference/ Discussion method:

In this trainer delivers a lecture & involves the trainees in a discussion so that the doubts

about the job to be undertaken get clarified.

Programmed instruction: This is an approach that puts material to be learned into highlyorganized logical sequences that require the trainees to respond.

CBT services are where a trainee learn by executing special training programs on a computer

retaining to their occupation. Use of computers in imp training, monitoring trainee progress,

providing feedback & assessing final results. Also called CAI

Any computer software program or component that improves employee performance by

    1. Reducing the completely or no of steps to perform a task

    2. Providing performance info an employee needs to perform a task3. Providing a DSS that enables an employee to identify the action that is appropriate for a

    particular set of conditions

IBT is a form of distance training in which the internet is used to deliver training material.

Professional instruction material developers are hired to create training material.

    1. High speed networks

    2. Electronic mail3. Chat rooms

    4. Video conferencing

    5. Internet

    System approach to traning

System is a set of interacting or interdependent entities forming an integrated whole.

System emphasizing a fair degree of integration and a holistic view(whole is greater than sum of itspart).

The term system may also refer to a set of rules that governs behavior or structure.

A group of independent but interrelated elements comprising a unified whole.

    Charateristics of system

Systems have structure, defined by parts and their composition; Systems have behavior, which involves inputs, processing and outputs of material, energy or

    information;

Systems have interconnectivity: the various parts of a system have functional as well as structuralrelationships between each other.

System(s) have by itself function(s) or group of functions .

    Types of system

An open system exchanges matter and energy with its surroundings. Most systems are opensystems; like a Human Beings.

A closed system exchanges energy, but not matter, with its environment; like Watch, Earth.

An isolated system exchanges neither matter nor energy with its environment; a theoreticalexample of which would be the universe

A subsystem is a set of elements, which is a system itself, and a part of a larger system.

Example- Tulas institute is a system and different departments are subsystem which acts as a

    separate system.

    System approach

Interdependence of objects and there attributes- independent elements can never

constitute a system Holismemergent properties not possible to detect by analysis , should be possible to

    defined by holistic approach .

Goal seeking system interaction must result in some goal or final state

Input and output- in a closed system input are determined once and constant , in open

system additional inputs are admitted from the environment

Transformation of input into output- This is the process by which goal are obtained.

Entropy- Amount of disorder and randomness present in any system.(is a measure of the

number of ways in which a system may be arranged). Higher the entropy , higher the

    disorder.

Regulation- A method of feedback is necessary for the system to operate predictably

Hierarchy- Complex whole are made up of smaller subsystem

Differentiation Specialized unit perform specialized function

Equifinality- Alternative way to attaining the same objective

Major concepts comes in system approach

    Specialization

    Grouping Coordination

    Emergent properties

Specialization - System is divided into smaller components allowing more specializedconcentration on each component

Grouping - To avoid generating greater complexity with increasing specialization it becomesnecessary to group related discipline or sub discipline

Coordination- As the components and the sub continent of system are group it necessary tocoordinate the interaction among groups.

Emergent properties Dividing a system into subsystem required recognizes and understanding theemergent properties of system i.e. recognizes why the system as a whole is greater than some ofits parts.
