Advantages• Solar reflective surface - reduces solar

gain while membrane is temporarilyexposed.

• Dimensionally stable - wrinkleresistant.

• Hot climate grade - speciallyformulated for high ambienttemperatures

• Single layer - simple, reliable, lowlabour cost.

• Cold applied - self-adhesive overlapsensure continuity.

• Flexible - accommodates minorsettlement and shrinkage movement.

• Chemically resistant - provideseffective external protection againstaggressive environment.

• Facilities Quality Assured Installation- printed overlap line ensuresminimum laps; light colour highlightsaccidental damage for simple patchrepairs.

ApplicationsWaterproof membrane for inverted orprotected membrane roofs in hotclimates, such as the Middle East.Bituthene® 8000 HC is also suitable forwaterproofing basements and other sub-structures in conditions where easierhandling, because of reduced solar gainis an advantage.

DescriptionBituthene 8000 HC is a unique 1.5mmthick flexible, preformed waterproofmembrane comprising a grey HDPEcomposite film and a thick self-adhesiverubber/bitumen compound. The speciallydeveloped film is dimensionally stable

and reduces solar gain to facilitateapplication in high ambienttemperatures. The adhesive compound isalso formulated specifically for hotclimates.

Continuity is achieved by overlappingadjacent rolls by 50mm and firmlyrolling. Being factory made, the thicknessof the membrane is constant throughoutand is not subjected to variation by sitelabour as occurs with brush appliedmembranes.

InstallationMeasures should be taken to ensure thatall surfaces are free from ice, frost orcondensation. Installation isrecommended between +4°C and +55°C.

Roof slabs should be surface dry, freefrom standing water, and laid to aregular surface free from sharpprotrusions and hollows.

Horizontal and vertical surfaces shall besmooth, regular, dry and free from nailsand primed with one coat of Primer B1applied by brush or roller at a rate of 10-12 sq m/litre depending on theporosity of the surface, and allowed todry completely before the application ofthe Bituthene 8000 HC (horizontalsurfaces under base slabs do not usuallyrequire priming before applying themembrane).

Bituthene 8000 HC shall be laid bypeeling back the protective release paperand applying the adhesive face onto the

prepared surface. The material shouldbe brushed on to the surface to ensuregood initial bond. Adjacent rolls arealigned and overlapped 50mm minimumat side and ends and well rolled with afirm pressure using a Bituthene LapRoller to ensure complete adhesion andcontinuity between the layers. In coolconditions, the application of gentleheat between layers by hot air gun orsoft flame will assist in promotingadhesion at lap joints.

Areas of apparent damage should bechecked and punctures or damagedareas should be cleaned and patchedusing Bituthene 8000 HC with 50mmlaps all round.

Pipe entries may be sealed withBituthene® LM extended over theadjacent flat slab area to give aminimum 50mm lap with the Bituthene8000 HC. Bituthene LM is a twocomponent compound forwaterproofing irregular profiles inconjunction with Bituthene® systems. Itis supplied in 5.7 litre packs.Followingthe application and inspection careshould be taken to prevent damage byfollowing trades. As soon as practicableafter the application, Bituthene 8000 HCshould be protected from exposure to the

weather and physical damage usinginsulation boards laid dry.

LimitationBituthene 8000 HC is not intended forpermanent exposure. Exposed areas of

membrane at upstands etc, should be coveredwith Solarshield™ HC or similar flashing.
