INTRODUCTION Bishop Stuart University is a not-for-profit Chartered educaonal instuon established by Ankole Diocese of the Province of the Anglican Church of Uganda to provide Chrisan based higher Educaon, training and research for the expansion of God’s kingdom, human Knowledge and beerment of society. The University has its main campus at Kakoba, Mbarara Municipality, Mbarara District in Uganda and another Campus at Ruharo, near St. James Cathedral, the headquarters of Ankole Diocese. Vision: “A University for recreang society with Academic Excellence, entrepreneurship and Chrisan Values.” Mission: Producing mul-sectoral leaders/operators, who know the way, show the way and go the way.” Philosophy: “Generang holisc knowledge while building servant hood character by guiding society in selected innovave and relevant skills in scienfic, social, polical and economic ” and moo: “Our God Reigns.” STUDENTS’ LIFE Accommodaon: The University offers Accommodaons to only Nursing Science Students. The rest of students sleep in privately owned hostels. However, students are encouraged to stay in Hostels that are accredited by the University. Student Leadership: Bishop Stuart University connues to boast of a vibrant Guild government which has been connuously involved in local, naonal and regional events and associaons. These events are a necessity for networking and they provide much needed exposure to our students. Guild Chambers: It is a double storied structure. It comprises of Guild Offices, Conference Hall, Boardroom, Canteen and Presidenal Suite. Guild Forest: The Guild planted a eucalyptus forest along the River Rwizi that is ready for harvesng. Games and Sports: The University has embarked on construcon of an internaonal Sports complex which will be hosng many acvies that include: football (women/men), netball (men/ women), Volleyball (Men/women), Wood ball (women/men), athlecs, beach soccer, basketball, chess, swimming and scrabble. Bishop Stuart University has registered several achievements in tournaments. Counselling Services: The University has a counselling unit which caters for students and staff. Medical Services: The University has been blessed with a clinic which is manned by well trained nurses. For referrals, the paents are referred to Ruharo Mission Hospital with which the university has a partnership/health scheme. Students Clubs: Many clubs and associaons are progressively being formed at BSU, indicang stability in students’ welfare. The pivotal role that these clubs play is in the development of the students’ abilies and talents. In August 2012 the first applicaon was lodged with the Naonal Council for Higher Educaon for the accreditaon of the law programs. The law programs are fully accredited by the Naonal Council for Higher Educaon and recognized by Law council of Uganda. Under the guidance of lecturers, the students of the faculty will be conducng clinics to assist people with various legal problems, such as accessing jusce, issues if domesc violence, maers of succession. They will be wring to sensize communies about their rights, such as the right to a clean environment, the right to educaon, the right to health and the right to shelter, land rights etc. Bachelor of Laws Diploma in Law GRADUATE STUDIES The graduate coordinaon office is vital to graduate students of the University. BSU places high regard to the educaonal, social, technological, administrave and scienfic aspects of graduate studies. This is in realizaon that graduate students of all categories bring in vibrant and dynamic research contribuon to the university. It is on record that, globally, more than a half of the research is carried out by graduate students at all levels. Such contribuon goes a long way towards boosng both instuonal and individual academic growth.
