ST . KEVIN'S MANREACHES HIS 100th

Dave Reynolds plays his 100th gamefor St. Kevin's today. He started freshfrom school in 1969 and, after playing afew games as ruck-rover in the reserves,graduated to a half-back flank in thefirsts . During the next three seasons hewas a consistent selection on the wing .In 1973 he was absent (with grudgingleave) for the first of what have provedto be regular overseas trips and upon hisreturn played the next two seasonsmainly at centre-half-forward . It wasn'tso much a case of Dave getting biggeras of St . Kev's getting smaller . Thisseason be has played in the centre andoccasionally on the wing and has pro-duced some of his best ever form . South Australia went down by11 points to Canberra on the open-ing day and no doubt this lossupset the draw. Some names ofinterest - in W.A.'s team wasBilly Snedden 24, 6 .0., 13 .10 (to-day's Speaker in the House ofRepresentatives) while R. Woolcott,23, 5.11, and 11.12 representedCanberra .

He again visited Adelaide in1974 and also played against Tas-,l,anla at Hobart the same year .

Last season he was again select-ed to play against Tasmania atElsternwlck Park.

Kevin, a solid 5' 1 l" and 12 stonecentreman, can also play on then~ing, half-forward flank or as aruck/rover.

Before joining North Old Boys,ie played with West Preston

y .C .W., winning their Best andFairest award in 1967 and 1968 .

He was third in the A SectionBest and Fairest voting in 1972,only two points behind the winner- North Old Boys teammate LeoCarney - and Peter Burt of Old

Paradians . But he won his clubaward that year.

Kevin is an all-year-round sport,playing cricket with Ivanhoe Sub-District club in the summer. Healso enjoys a game of golf - butdon't get the idea that he doesn'tenjoy his football !

c :ub President, Fred Tuininga, on play-ing his 150th game against St . Bernard'slast Saturday. Fred has done a tremen-dous job, both on and off the field, overihe years. He has seen the club go fromRags to Riches . He instigated the move

zrade . The club went through to "A"2rade in consecutive years . During thoseiears he captained the club's greatestsides - "C" and "B" to premiershipsin 1972 and 73 . A versatile player, Fredhas played in many positions such asruck-rover, centre-half-back, full-back and-:en full-forward. He has played his bestfootball on the back line and with his>Poiling tactics and great determination,has played many excellent games for thedub. This year has not been the clubsbest, and has placed great pressure on=red, being president and player . How-ever, he has come through with flyingco1ors and he has the respect of all the

players and officials . The club hopes tosee Fred Tuininga around for many yearsyet. Keep up the mighty work, Fred.

Reservoir Old Boys congratulate BobTaggart on playing 50 games with theclub. Bob is a beautiful left foot kickand plays mainly on the wing . He hasplayed some great games over the yearsespecially on Elsternwick park (at leastGeorge Mc thinks so) . Bob has all theattributes for a top player, pace, mark-ing and kicking ability and courage.However he lacks that little bit of con-centration needed to top his game off,at the moment. Well done Robert !

Anthony "Tonto" Parsons a staunchclubman and committeeman for FawknerAmateurs is shortly moving to Queens-land. Whilst his assistance and clubdedication will be missed, the Fawkswish him every success in the SunshineState.

Peter Hutchinson who plays his 350thgame with the club today. This milestoneis only a few games short of the recordfor an amateur footballer held by anotherPower House great, Les Gordon.In over twenty years of amateur foot-

ball, Hutchy has a record, few if anycould match. Hutchy has won sevenclub Best and Fairest awards, played inthree premiership teams, representedVictoria and is a former Power Housecaptain, In 1972, in recognition of hisoutstanding achievements and service tothe game he received perhaps his finestaward - that of Amateur Footballer ofthe year at St. Bernard's Grand FinalBreakfast .

Hutchy is currently captain-coach ofthe Reserves as well as playing in theruck and forward pocket in the Seniorswhere his strength and experience arestill a headache to opposition backmen .Although plagued by injuries in recentseasons, Hutchy never turns in a badgame .

Almost as well known for his off thefield performances, Hutchy can usuallybe found after the game having a drinkwith the opposition. His prowess ofcourse as a leader of community singingor as a storyteller is renowned, and weall expect him to be in fine form tonightfor the celebrations .

In private life, he is a devoted familyman . Without the support of his wife,Gwen, he would probably not havereached this milestone today .

U mpire Committee ChairmanALF KEAM

Alf Keam was appointed Chairman of the Umpire Committee of theV . :1 .F .A. after serving a term of five years as a member of that com-mittee, and after an even longer playing career.

Alf spent most of his Amateur football days wearing the maroon,green and black of Melbourne High School Old Boys, apart from oneseason with University Blacks .

He started with Melbourne Highill 1940 and chalked up more than130 games with them, and even asate as 1967 or 1968, when hewas over 40, he still stripped withthe Reserves on occasions .

Alf's playing position was the%~ - ing, where his sprinting abilityand solid 5'7~" and 12~ stonestood him in good stead, but as heI1imself admits, he dropped backinto the back pocket as he slowedLIT) in later years .

He served, in the Royal Austra-lian Navy during the War (from1912 to 1946) and rose to the rankof Lieutenant .

During his war service, Alfplayed football with Sydney NavalDepot in 1943 and with Subiaco(W.A.) in 1945 .

Then it was back to his oldclub, but he transferred to Univer-sity Blacks in 1949, in the final yearof his Commerce degree course .

Alf was Melbourne High's Dele-gate to the V.A.F .A. for about 10vears, and became a member ofthe Umpire Committee in 1971 . Thefollowing year he was appointed tothe Selection Committee, a positionhe still holds .

He was Treasurer of M .H .S . clubin 1948 and held the office of

President from 1967 to 1971 .Golf and tennis are among his

other sporting interests, and he isa member of the Finance Sub-Com-mittee of Metropolitan Golf Club- rather appropriate, as Alf is astockbroker .

In his younger days (Alf is nowin his 50's), he was keen on athle-tics and won a Sports Championaward at Melbourne High .

Serving on committees and soforth is not the limit of Alf's at-tributes - he has done a wonder-ful job as compere of St. Bernard'sGrand Final Breakfast the lastthree years .
