OPTIMISED USE OF HIDDEN RESOURCES

25-30m2, H3M5,000kg.

Example of a closed-loop, circular energy and water system.

Small-scale demonstration.

Aim to reduce Carbon emissions, sequester carbon, minimise waste water, reduce energy consumption in waste water treatment.

(System can be fuelled by household waste e.g. plastics/paper/card as in standard power station) or,

For demonstration purposes, a closed-cycle biomass system is proposed:

BIOMASS - WET System - A Constructed Wetland System - producing virgin biomass Salix sp. on 3yr rotation. (see biologicdesign.co.uk - system overview)

BOILER & HOPPER - Biomass pellet dispenser - fuelling an adapted Water Boiling system (e.g. Oonyx SAS Chaudière biomasse). Electricity is used to supply the biomass pellets for the boiler, supplied by the turbine:

TURBINE - Steam supplied by the boiler propels a Smart Steam Turbine (e.g. Nova-Pro Système de turbine à vapeur, Nova-Pro Développement, Quebec) converting kinetic energy to electrical energy - as a normal power station, but at smaller (local-proximite) scale.

LAUNDRETTE - Created electricity is used to power an energy-efficient clothes washing machine (Any French manufacturer), to represent domestic/commercial energy usage.

WASTEWATER (greywater) enters a constructed wetland (WET) system described above (Similar to an Aquaponic system) filtering water, Growing virgin BIOMASS - e.g. Salix sp.

BIOMASS - Biomass and clean water are fed back into the system.

Répétez - Cycle continues - système circulaire

There may or may not be a vapor condenser. There may or may not be a biomass pellet press. There may or may not be a wood gasification process.

Applications can be domestic - municipal. Reduces waste management and transportation Carbon and financial costs, localizes electricity production, is a transition model for existing larger power stations.

By localizing the system, energy lost through waste management is reduced. By localizing waste disposal through incineration, effective management can be emphasized encouraging separation-at-source and a cultural reduction of waste material production.

Eventually biomass shall replace inorganic waste burnt in incinerators. Inorganic waste continues to be replaced by organic alternatives, thus neutralizing the 'waste' issue and facilitating smooth transition to renewable biomass sources sequestering Carbon.

The biomass production is a bi-product of the water treatment process:

WET systems are capable of processing a range of business waste waters and all household domestic waste waters including sewage.

Nutrients are converted to biomass whilst the water undergoes natural filtration processes.

The system can be designed to optimise mechanical harvesting of biomass.Production increases with maturation of plants which is quick 1 - 3yrs. Plants are easily replaced by existing stock grafts. Maintenance costs are minimal, replacement costs virtually zero.

There are no working mechanical parts in the WET system for treating waste waters, the system is biological, therefore energy is saved compared to chemical and mechanical methods, which are energy dependent - approx 30% of running costs are for electricity for standard sewage treatment plants.

In a WET system, Carbon is sequestered then harvested as biomass.

WET systems are scalable according to the amount and type of wastewater to be consumed. They can be used for industrial scale applications as well as for residential communities . see www.biologic design.co.uk for detailed information.

The steam driven turbine can be exchanged with a micro gas turbine system, running on methane waste gases, or possibly woodgas from biomass gasification :

AND

Peut-être ma réflexion est naive, et pardonnez-moi, c'est probablement évident pour un ingénieur tel que vous, mais que pensez-vous de ce système circulaire ci-dessous ? Pour résumé
