Biography Melissa Sims Sign of the Times ZINC contemporary October 5 – November 18, 2017 Melissa Sims is a fine artist now living in her home state of Georgia after spending 17 years in sunny, sparkly Los Angeles. Her brightly colored collage style paintings combine pop art and found imagery on wood, in oil and acrylic, topped with a shiny resin finish. Sims received degrees in photography and art history from the University of Georgia, and came to painting after college when she landed a job in an art “sweatshop”. There she toiled and painted hundreds of artworks a year and absorbed many a technique from her fellow factory workers. She combined this knowledge with her photography, imagination, and sense of humor to create what you see today. Although her subject matter may slightly change due to changes in her life – sexy pinups to a child’s toy - the spirit of her paintings remain the same, life is to short and uncertain….smile.

Biography Melissa Sims Sign of the Times ZINC contemporary October 5 – November 18, 2017      Melissa Sims is a fine artist now living in her home state of Georgia after

spending 17 years in sunny, sparkly Los Angeles. Her brightly colored collage

style paintings combine pop art and found imagery on wood, in oil and acrylic,

topped with a shiny resin finish.

Sims received degrees in photography and art history from the University of

Georgia, and came to painting after college when she landed a job in an art

“sweatshop”. There she toiled and painted hundreds of artworks a year and

absorbed many a technique from her fellow factory workers.

She combined this knowledge with her photography, imagination, and sense of

humor to create what you see today. Although her subject matter may slightly
