SHORT PROFILE OF MERCANTIL CONTINENTAL S.A.
MERCANTIL CONTINENTAL S.A. Was founded by Mr. Ramiro Barona Z. in mid 1973 to import and distribute specialty chemicals, additives and ingredients. The legal structure of the company, did not allow acting as foreign firms representatives, because by that time, Mr. Barona was the Manager of the Cali branch of Urigo Ltda., by then, the largest representations company in Colombia. In mid 1984, sometime after the founder left Urigo Ltda. Cali Division, the legal structure of our Company was amended, to include the foreign firms representation activity.
At present, our Company act as sales representative (Commercial Agent and Distributor) for the colombian market, of FMC BIOPOLYMER, CHALLENGE RMF, TOWNSEND-PROTECON LANGEN, TRONOX INC., MASTERTASTE (Hickory Specialties, part of the Kerry Ingredients Group ), MALLET & Company, Inc. from U.S.A., POLYGAL LTD. from Switzerland, CHEMISCHE FABRIKE BUDENHEIM from Germany, VERINOX from Italy, Norbright and Asiafine from China, ALCAL S.R.L. from Paraguay, and CREMINOX from Argentina, among others.
We have a Food Ingredients Division devoted to the Import and local distribution of products from FMC BIOPOLYMER (Hydrocolloids such as Carrageenans, Microcrystalline Cellulose and Alginates), BUDENHEIM (Phosphates), SOLBAR INDUSTRIES (Soy Proteins), APOLLO USA (Dairy Derivatives), POLYGAL (Natural Gums), THE SOLAE COMPANY (Soy Lecithin), SUNOPTA (Estabilized fibers and brans) and also sausage casings from WOLFSON CASING. From these firms, we also sell for direct indent to same customers.
Our headquarters are located in the city of Cali, where the Company was founded and we have our own offices and warehouse. We also have regional sales offices, in Bogotá and Medellin. This is a summary of the profile of our Company but if further data is necessary please let us know.
