The BINA experience encourages our students to develop their love for Hashem, His Torah, and the Jewish people. In partnership with the parents, BINA enables each student to actualize her
potential in a supportive and challenging academic environment. A BINA student is taught to be proud of her heritage, involved in her community, and prepared for her future.
BINA is a constituent agency of the
UJFT.

Mrs. Amy Lefcoe
A Message From Our Menaheles- Mrs. Aviva Harpaz
Amy Ehrlich Lefcoe grew up in New York and graduated from The Fashion Institute of Technology with a Bachelor's of Science in Marketing. In 1990, she moved to Virginia Beach where she met and married her husband, Kevin. They have 3 daughters- Jenny, Mattie, and Rose- all BINA girls! This is the second year that Mrs. Lefcoe has been teaching 9th and 10th graders at BINA. Last year, she taught Sefer Tehillim, and this year Mrs. Lefcoe is teaching Shesh Mitzvos. Amy teaches a ladies' class at B'nai Israel, is the city leader for the Jewish Women's Renaissance Project, and is a participant and teacher on Aish HaTorah Chizuk trips.
In this week’s Parsha, Parshas Vayishlach, we read about Yaakov Avinu’s famous encounter with his brother, Eisav. Yaakov Avinu prepares for the meeting by davening, sending Eisav a tremendous gift, and splitting his camp in preparation for a possible war. When they finally meet up, the Pesukim detail the conversation between Yaakov and Eisav. Eisav protests the gift that Yaakov Avinu sent, saying, “yesh li rav” – I have a lot. I am a wealthy man and don’t need your gift. Yaakov Avinu responds by urging him to accept the present, telling Eisav that Hashem has blessed him and “yesh li kol” – I have everything that I need. Rashi comments on the difference between the words of Eisav and Yaakov in describing their possessions. Eisav’s were said with an attitude of haughtiness, while Yaakov Avinu’s words are an expression of gratitude to Hashem for giving him what he needs. Eisav’s words smack of dissatisfaction – I have a lot, but I could always use more, while Yaakov Avinu words imply that he has no further desires beyond what Hashem has given him. Living in our society of materialism and the drive to have more and bigger and better, we can learn this valuable lesson from our forefather Yaakov Avinu of being sameich b’chelko – happy and satisfied with what we have. As we approach Chanuka, when we reward our children for their good middos and Torah learning over the year, it behooves us to give to our children in a way that will instill this value in them.
BNOS CONVENTION 2017 Starting with the fun get-to-know you label game, the Bnos convention just got better.
We heard many inspiring panels and speeches which made us excited to do Bnos, and helped us appreciate this opportunity to
its fullest. The singing on Shabbos was beautiful, and we met friends for a lifetime. The Melava Malka, where we danced to the
music of the band, was a great way to end off the Bnos convention!

BINA Yeseira On Mondays, November 13 & 27, BINA
Yeseira met and were inspired by Mrs Shana
Danziger’s class on Mishlei. This lunch and
learn program, which meets on the second and
fourth Mondays of the month, is a great addition
to BINA’s programming this year.
November 27th’s class was sponsored by
Mrs. Laurie G. Siegel in honor of
Mrs. Aviva Harpaz & Mrs. Andie Pollock.
All women of the community are welcome to
join us and bring a friend. If you have any
questions, contact Andie Pollock at
[email protected]. We’re looking
forward to seeing you on December 11.
