“Instead of wondering where your next vacation is, maybeyou should set a life you don’t need to escape from” saidSeth Godin.

I rather like Seth Godin’s musings on life and business as he thoughtfullyprovokes what you believed to be set in concrete to uncover ideas thatsuddenly ring true like church bells in your head.

This quote is one of my favourites and resonates well especially at thistime of the year. I sat watching my facebook feed this morning lookingat several postings from families doing a countdown to their annualsummer holiday. Some were going to Greece, some were going muchfurther afield and of course they were all preceded with cries of “yippee, only 4 days to go”.

With 2 businesses to run and 4 children to amuse over the next 6 weeksI had an initial pang of envy. The thought of a blissful, uninterruptedvacation, somewhere in the sun (remember that?!) seemed alluring andindulgent.

I allowed my thoughts to continue in this vein until I pulled myself backto my reality with a rather pleasant pop. After all, who has created thelife that I’m living? Who is responsible for the actions that I take and thechoices that I make each day? Well of course the answer to that liestotally between my ears so if I don’t like what I’m doing then I jolly wellneed to change things. And you know what? I rather love what I have. Ican choose to start work at 6am so that I can leap up every now andthen to cut up magazines for the girls to turn into a craft project, or hangout the next load of washing that keeps magically appearing for me. Ican choose to stop late afternoon to enjoy a cup of tea and colouringwith the children.

And best of all we’re workinghard towards a lifestyle whereI very much hope that insteadof uninterrupted weeks, we’llhave some uninterruptedmonths off to enjoy the world.

Much love until next month

A perfect day for analfresco tea party!

Although the summer breeze was a shadetoo much at times the afternoon sunshinewas a perfect accompaniment to thevisual setting, looking out over theHamble River for an afternoon tea partywith friends and family. The Rotary Cluband the Inner wheel of Locks Heathhosted a Tea Party in the Festival grounds, providing, for a small fee, Tea or Coffee, aselection of the finest cream cakes, and asan alternative, a delicious hand cookedHot Dog with optional onions topped withchoice sauces all wrapped and served inan environmental friendly tissue. If youwere feeling energetic you could enjoy arelaxing round of golf on ourinternationally designed golf course onwhich a record number of three holeswere achieved on this three hole course.

To interest the waiting public there werestatic displays of activities that the clubsare extremely involved with, namely

Water Aid showing the filtration of dirtyand contaminated water by 98% of allknown water born bacteria. On displaywas a small filter tube which can be hungaround the neck when traveling, this alsoreduces the water born bacteria by 98%,ideal for children not needing to carryheavy water when on the move, all theyhave to do is suck water through the tubefrom any puddle or pond . As anadditional demonstration for filteringlarger quantities there was a simulation ofdirty water being poured from a bucketinto the main filtering section and cleanwater pouring out after filtration.

Shelter box and Shelter box tent were alsoon display showing some of the boxcontents and pictorial displays showingthe box being transported to disasterareas. As a point of interest there are 500box and tents deployed to Nepal withfurther boxes being sent.

We would like to thank all those peoplewho took the time out and enjoyed somerefreshment and also for visiting our

display, furthermore, for contributingtowards our charities. We are pleased tosay we collected £470.81 througheveryone’s efforts on such a beautifulafternoon.

Number 12 Bistro, located on the edge of the Hamble River, isbringing you a touch of theMediterranean with its new offering

of Turkish/Greek mezes.

Under new management from January this year, Number 12 hasundergone many exciting changes, the main addition being the openingof a new and vibrant bar, offering an extensive range of spirits, wines, beers and freshly made cocktails. The launch of a new evening menu, which offers a delicious selection of Turkish/Greek mezes, makesNumber 12 a great choice for any occasion.

The Bistro is owned and managed by a young couple who gave up theircareers and lives in Torbay to follow the dream. Engin has been acocktail bartender for over 13 years and has always been looking forthe right opportunity to run his own business whilst continuing to dowhat he loves. Sonia’s passion lies with cooking, making them theperfect team, all they needed then was the perfect premises!

After a time of not finding anything they loved closer to home, Soniadecided to follow her heart and not her head, and step away from hercareer as a chartered accountant so that together they could pursuethe dream of owning their own business. Number 12 was a chance findfor the couple as they did not know the area. They stayed in a nearbyhotel by chance and fell in love with the Hamble River and Swanwick,

they never thought thatjust two weeks laterNumber 12 would goon the market – thisdefinitely was one ofthose ‘it was meant tobe’ moments.

The saying ‘It’s not what youknow but who you know’ rings inmy ears as I have been broughtup with it and I can usually find a‘who’ for most enquiries thatcome in to our businesses. Wehave been discussing the fineline between whether the abilityto plan your wedding budgetdown to the last penny with acontingency to boot, or theadrenalin rush / anxietyassociated with scrabbling for

the last few pounds to pay thebalance off for your venue in thelast few weeks is the best courseof action when planning your bigday yourself. We both agreedthat knowing well in advancewhat you needed to spend yourmoney on, what you could havebespoke or off the shelf and theassociated costs of both areessential to not letting your‘bridezilla’ side get way out ofcontrol.

We could never cover a full listhere of every item you wouldneed to add to your weddingplan as we are all vastly differentand want to follow differingtraditions, or in our caseseccentricities, but good planningand organisation is definitelykey. Come for a consultation, hear what we have to say, buthave your budget and timeframefirmly in mind when you do; thatway if you love a service or

product you can at least work outwhat you will need to spend lesson, like cutting out knives andforks!

Charlie suggests:Using a dream board to collateyour ideal wedding day inpictures, what colours, theme orfeelings do you wish to invoke?

Sit down and realistically workout your budget. Is it a grandfigure or do you need to work outwhat you can afford per monthfor the next year or two?

Look at venues that can be suitedto your theme. Our venue decorservice can turn the look of most

venues, using props, drapes andlighting so do keep an open mindwhen viewing, but be realistic -do you want somewhere todance for example, or is it allabout the food?

Look for an event coordinator(like us!) or separate suppliers(also like us!) to organise yourvenue decor, entertainment, catering, finishing touches, bridalwear, transport etc.

Please remember that a goodprice is not always the cheapestoption; ask potential suppliers forrecommendations, pictures oftheir work (portfolio) and ensurethey are happy to supply their

insurance details if you enter intoa contract with them. It can becostly to have to source anothersupplier at the last minute, ormortifying to not get the serviceyou expected.

If you have your heart set on thatsomething special, handmade orbespoke, factor this in whenlooking at theming yourcentrepieces and other decoroptions, to enhance and not workagainst your beautiful item.

Lastly, if you are unable to payfor your services in a lump sumconsider making a paymentarrangement with your suppliersensuring that all of your little

details are paid for well inadvance of the run up to your bigday (when you are supposed tobe glowing with anticipation andnot wiping sweat from yourbrow!) Having regular contactwith your suppliers keeps youlinked in to them, they can adviseon your planning and theinevitable lists well in advance, everyone gets to the week beforeand wonders what they haveforgotten a good coordinator orgroup of trusted suppliers willhave already checked your listtwice!

Janet Mist has some great ideas:DIY weddings are massive, brought about by Pinterestgorgeous photographs, BridalBlogs, wedding magazines andBridal Boot Fairs popping up allover the country.

A lot of themes are inspired by allthings mix and match vintage anda stand-up to the modernthrowaway society: to savemoney and recycle.

Here are my tips to pull off a DIYwedding:

Decide on a colour or theme topull it all together, like startingfrom a focal piece on an interiordesign scheme.

Put a Pinterest page together, orscrapbook with pictures withideas to base it from. Do yourhomework and be realistic, doyou really want the handmadelook? Are you able to create, afford and make the bits youneed? Is it really going to saveyou money? If the answer is nothen do your homework and seekbits needed within your budget,

or adjust accordingly.

Set a budget for everything anddon’t waste money on impulsespends on ebay and car boots ifyou’re not going to use them -you will regret it later. Make listsfor each category and decidewhat is the most important andspend accordingly.

Remember, a good weddingplanner can actually save youmoney so it’s always good to seekadvice first before you waste lotsof money thinking you can do itall yourself; trust me...you cant.At the end of the day it’s allabout having the best day withyour new husband and notstressing over the little details.Just be honest and set realisticgoals.

And enjoy every single minute x

Successful dating

Commitment can be regarded assomething scary and that needs tobe thought about carefully. To behonest, it is something that shouldnot be taken lightly but for some, itbrings deep anxiety, is a terrifyingprospect and just means losing theirindependence. It is important tounderstand what commitmentmeans and a simple definition couldbe that we dedicate ourselves solelyto one person. Some people are commitmentphobes and some people believethey are commitment phobes whenin fact, they aren't really. It is moreabout their gut instinct telling themthat their partner is not right forthem and not wanting to admit it tothemselves. We all look for thatperson that will be perfect for us andwe often know inside whether theyare or not.

If you believe yourself to be unableto commit, the chances are that youwill be right and if you believeyourself to be able to commit, thechances are that you will also beright. However, real commitmentphobia can stem from many differentorigins and will be very personal toeach individual. The original triggersmay not even known or recognisedand will be well hidden in theunconscious mind. Identifying andestablishing the causes is key tochanging the behaviour and willrequire a large amount of work butthe person will have to want tochange too.

We all have our own idea ofperfection and of what we want insomeone. Unfortunately, wenormally only look at the surface, i.e.looks, jobs, financials, and thesethings are actually somehowirrelevant. We all age and material

things can disappear overnight.People actually rarely really knowwhat they want at a deeper level andit is therefore important to reallythink about what is truly wantedfrom the perfect partner. Lookingback at our own history, questioningwhat

we have liked and learnt from thepeople we chose to partner with, is agood way to start. It is also helpful toknow what we did not like but wemainly need to focus on what wewant.

It is also sometimes easy to listen tooutside influences who mean wellbut do not necessarily know what wereally need. We also live in a worldwhere there is a lot of fantasy andwhere we feel we always shouldhave more... whatever 'more' is.

It is important to note that timingand our own personal developmentwill contribute to it as we are alldifferent and will not all be ready atthe same time. We are individualswith our own quirks, experiences,

stories, emotions, reactions andinterpretations. What works for oneperson may not work for anotherand it is important to be remindedthat life is a journey. Unfortunately, society sometimes pushes us toconform to 'the mold' and we aresomehow expected to follow acertain path.

Meeting the right person does nothappen like it does in movies, ithappens when we are ready andwhen we allow ourselves to... Once itdoes, the fear of losing ourindependence or the fact that wecould meet someone better suited tous just disappears and will not evenenter our mind.So is commitment really a scarything? Only if you believe it to be…

Looking a lot like a giant daisy, an aster springs forth with a starry shaped head providing colour in late summer andautumn when many of the other blooms may have already faded away.

These plants can grow up to 8ft in height depending on the variety chosen so they’re a great choice for many gardensgiven their flexibility. Make sure that you don’t plant the annual varieties in the same place each year in order to

prevent plant disease such as Aster wilt.Nature lovers take note – these flowers attract butterflies so you’ll be able to enjoy watching new wildlife too.
