Chuck Mee has written bobrauschenbergamerica, Wintertime, Belle Epoque, Vienna: Lusthaus, Snow in June, A Perfect Wedding, Limonade tous les Jours, and a number of other plays in addition to his work inspired by Greek plays: Big Love, True Love, Orestes 2.0, Trojan Women A Love Story and others. His plays have been performed at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, American Rep-ertory Theatre, New York Theatre Workshop, the Public Theatre, Lincoln Center, the Humana Fes-tival, Steppenwolf, and other places in the Unit-ed States as well as in Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, Vienna, Istanbul and elsewhere.

DIRECTOR

Joanna Garfinkel

For Theatre at UBC, MFA candidate Joanna Gar-finkel has directed The Skin of Our Teeth, The Dispute and Bear and she was assistant director for KJ Sanchez s̓ critically acclaimed production of The House of Atreus. She is the recipient of the 2006 Sydney J. Risk Award for Directing. Before coming to Vancouver, Garfinkel resided in Austin, Texas where she co-created 2004 s̓ Bonfire Festival and directed three original works within it. Other credits include: Don’t Drown for the Rude Mechanicals (nomi-nated for two Austin Criticsʼ Table Awards), Honey for Frontera Fest (nominated for Best of Fest), and Maria Irene Fornesʼ Mud for iron belly muses.

CAST

Spencer Atkinson

Spencer Atkinson is thrilled to be apart of such an explosive play. A former member of the national cycling team and national medal-ist, Spencer is now in his Intermediate Year of the BFA Acting Pro-gram. So far this sea-son he has appeared in Blackbird Theatre s̓ Peer Gynt as well as Henry in UBC s̓ production of The Skin of Our Teeth. Also at UBC, he has performed in The Firefly Project, the 2005 Secrets Project and played “Alan” in William Inge s̓ Summer Brave last April. You can next see Spencer in Brecht s̓ Mother Courage and Her Children at the Fredric Wood theatre.

Yoshie Bancroft

Yoshie is a second year BFA Acting student. At UBC, she previously played Mrs. Potts in Summer Brave, and Esmerelda in The Skin of Our Teeth.

She grew up doing youth theatre at Arts Umbrella where she performed in The Com-plete Works of William Shakespeare: Abridged and played Estelle in

Cocktails at Pam’s, which were both toured to high schools in the lower mainland. Yoshie is thrilled to be part of Big Love, her first UBC the-atre season show. She would like to thank the cast and crew for all the hard work put into this production!

Evan Frayne

Evan is in the final year of the Theatre at UBC s̓ BFA Acting Program and is very excited to play in Big Love with such a great cast and crew. He was last seen as Dana in the world premier of Life After God with Touchstone Theatre and UBC. Other shows at UBC include Beautiful Thing, Picasso at the Lapin Agile and Bringing It All Back

Home. Selected credits outside UBC include Mary Stuart with Blackbird Theatre, Macbeth with Urban Rogues and Answers with Rifleman Productions. On screen credits include Stargate SG-1, the independent feature Follow the Leader and the video game, CSI-Miami. Evan will next be seen in Mother Courage and Her Children at UBC in March.

Daryl King

Daryl grew up on the prairies dreaming of tak-ing over his grandpa s̓ farm, but along the way fell in love with the theatre. He is excited to be playing ʻConstantineʼ in this production of Big Love. Past credits include ʻStudent #2/Julietʼ in Shakespeare s̓ R & J (Mad Duck), ʻFluteʼ in A Midsummer Night‘s Dream (Whistler Theatre Project), ʻProctorʼ in Terrible Things (Rumble),

ʻTonyʼ in You Can’t Take it With You (Stu-dio 58) and ʻDavidʼ in San Diego (Studio 58). Currently he is rehearsing Showdown with Green Thumb and will be spending

the summer on the main stage at Bard on the Beach. Daryl is a recent graduate of Studio 58. A special thanks to Joanna for giving him this wonderful opportunity. Enjoy the show!

Kevin Kraussler

Kevin is delighted to appear in this produc-tion of Big Love. This is Kevin s̓ final year in the BFA acting pro-gram. His recent the-atrical credits on UBC productions include Jamie Gangel in Beautiful Thing, the Waiter in Life After God, Azor in The Dispute, and Jim OʼConnor in The Glass Menagerie. Kevin is also an alumnus of the Douglas College acting program. He will next be performing at UBC in Mother Courage and Her Children. Kevin would like to thank his family and friends for their inspiration and sup-port and the talented cast and crew for creating such an exciting event.

Courtney Lancaster

Courtney Lancaster comes from Nova Scotia, and is at UBC enjoying her Intermediate year of the BFA Acting program. Some of her favor-ite past credits include Godspell, Welcome to the Moon and Tough! at Festival Antigonish Summer Theatre, and most recently The Skin of our Teeth with The-atre at UBC. Courtney has enjoyed every mo-ment of working on Big Love, and is grateful to be part of such an amazing cast and crew. Next up for Courtney is Theatre at UBC s̓ production of Mother Courage and Her Children. Thanks go out to her friends and family, as always.

Gord Myren

Gord is currently a 2nd year BFA Acting student at UBC. He began his acting career in 2001 when he played Derek Richards in Jonathan Bean s̓ Happy Birthday, You’re Dead performed at the Granville Island Waterfront Theatre. Since then,

Gord has graduated from the Douglas Col-lege theatre program and has been involved in several other plays. Gord has played such roles as Hart in Kevin

Kerr s̓ Unity (1918), Father Don in Lanford Wil-son s̓ Sympathetic Magic and recently played Hal in William Inge s̓ Summer Brave and Antrobus in Theatre at UBC s̓ production of The Skin of Our Teeth directed by Joanna Garfinkel. Gord is very pleased to be a part of this production of Big Love and also looks foreward to his roles in the upcoming UBC production of Bertolt Brecht s̓ Mother Courage and Her Children.

Joanna Rannelli

Joanna completed the Douglas College Theatre Program in 2002, and now undergoes her final year in the BFA Acting Program at UBC. Recent credits at UBC include Lois in Life After God, Sandra in Beautiful Thing, Lucia in Measure for Measure, Duchess in King Richard and His Wom-

en, Susie in Bringing it all Back Home, Par-lormaid in La Ronde, Emma in Bus Stop, Other Credits: Wait-ing for Godot, Electra, and Kindertransport. Joanna can next be seen as Yvette in Mother Courage. She is thrilled to be playing Bella/Eleanor in Big Love, a play that has many challenges and such unique re-lationships. Joanna feels honored to be working

with such a talented group of people, she would would like to thank Joanna Garfinkel for her hard work and support as well as cast, crew, and everyone that has helped in the development of the show. Cecile Roslin

Cecile Roslin is abso-lutely thrilled to be a part of this produc-tion of Big Love. In her intermediate year in the BFA theatre program, Cecile is very happy to making her main stage debut in this raucous show. Past credits include Gladys in The Skin of Our Teeth, Millie in Summer Brave, Marta in Waiting for the Parade, Hero in Much Ado About Nothing and the Harold in Marat/Sade. She also spent many years involved at every level of the Canadian Improv Games, various local cabarets and doing supernumerary work with the Vancouver Opera. Television credits include a production and acting role on Rogers Cable s̓ Generation Why? and hosting and panel appear-ances on MTV Canada s̓ Select. Cecile would like to thank Joanna for this amazing opportunity. Working on this project has been incredible

PRODUCTION

Mya Brown

Mya Brown is an intermediate student in UBC s̓ Bachelor of Arts Theatre program. She has previ-ously been fortunate to work with organizations such as The Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Prairie The-atre Exchange, Theatre One, and The Nanaimo Theatre Group. Her film directorial credits in-clude Flushed and the Greenlight Award Winning The Truth Is Here. Mya currently directs the pro-motional department of Vancouver s̓ CiTR Radio, as well as coordinating her own live production management, and merchandise company enti-tled “Merchant Productions”. Most recently, she assisted production in UBC Opera s̓ performance of The Gondoliers.

Cameron Crookston

Cameron is a fourth year BA theatre student. Some recent works include Stage Managing the United Players of Vancouver s̓ The Seagull, at the Jericho Arts Centre, Technical Director for The-atre at UBC s̓ The Dispute/King Richard and His Women, in the Dorothy Somerset Studio Theatre

and Stage Managing Theatre at UBC s̓ Frankie and Johnny and the Claire de Lune in the Doro-thy Somerset Studio Theatre. Cameron wishes to sincerely thank the talented and gracious cast and crew for all their dedication. A special thanks to Joanna Garfinkel for creating a show that has been a truly rewarding experience.

Ronald Fedoruk

Ronald Fedoruk has been teaching Scenography in the Theatre Program since 1989, has designed twenty productions for Theatre at UBC, and has served a term as Head of the Department of Theatre, Film and Creative Writing. Fedoruk s̓ Theatre career spans more than thirty-five years, and he has created designs for many Canadian Theatres. For six years he was the Scenographer for Bard on the Beach, for which he designed a dozen productions. He is now a member of the Board of Directors of Bard on the Beach. Fe-doruk is a member of Associated Designers of Canada, the Canadian Institute for Theatre Tech-nology and has been a Canadian representative to the International Theatre Design Organiza-tion (OISTAT).

Jay Havens

Jay is a student in his 4th year of the BFA, de-sign/production. Being involved in theatre from a very young age, he has experience both in front of and behind the curtain. He holds a diploma in Theatre Arts from the University College of the Fraser Valley. Favorite credits include: playing a Weasel in Wind in the Willows, assistant costume designing Silverwing & costume and mask de-signing for The Big League at Carousel Theatre, set designing Beau Jest & To Kill a Mocking Bird at Gallery 7 Theatre and house managing at UCFV, where he also did some directing. He is grateful to his parents Brian and Cheryl for their love and support and also to Amber, Tammy and James. His next projects include: costume coordinating Showdown at Green Thumb Theatre (opening Feb 4th) and learning wardrobe man-agement on Mother Courage and Her Children at UBC.

Jay Henrickson

Jay Henrickson is the Manager of Technical Theatre Production at the UBC Department of Theatre, Film and

Creative Writing. He has been involved in UBC Theatre productions from 1977 to the present and has over 30 years of experience in all as-pects of scenery construction for Theatre, Film and Television. He taught Scenery Construction and Welding for five years at Douglas College. Jay is a partner in Scenic Solutions Inc., a lo-cal BC company manufacturing scenic materials for the Theatre, Film and Television Industries, a Member of The Academy of Canadian Cin-ema and Television, a senior member in the Construction Department of I.A.T.S.E. Local 891 (Film and Television) and a retired member of I.A.T.S.E. Local 118 (Theatre). Jay is the father of two wonderful children.

Patrick Pennefather

Patrick Pennefather (BFA Music, MFA) is a multi-award winning sound designer and com-poser who has worked with numerous theatri-cal, dance, and corporate clients in Canada and internationally for the past 20 years. He has worked with the internationally renowned Electric Company Theatre, Vancouver Theatre Sports League, CBC Ra-dio and Television and Bravo Television. His music and design have been heard in many contexts; theatre, bal-let and modern dance, film, dance film, spec-tacle, circus, comedy, radio, podcast, e-advertis-ing, and websites. He is currently programming original comedic podcasts for www.xpodradio.com. Big Love is Patrick s̓ second Theatre at UBC production this season.
