Textbooks

Learning French is an “aural” experience. It has to sound good!

Textbooks and written French in general impede the beginning process of learning French.

When we start Chapter 1, early next week, students will get their books.

Homework

Practice in and out of class is critical to doing well and becoming proficient users of French.

When there isn’t assigned written work, there is ALWAYS something to review. This is where students “design” their own homework.

The oral recitations introduced each week WILL become assessment tools (pronunciation, culture, history, etc.). Access to Podcasts will help your child prepare for oral assessments and increase exponentially students’ ability to use French.

Homework will be posted to French blog and Podcasts linked on Mabry’s website.

Homework

Students may be assigned work that requires them to have access to the internet. Most of these assignments include a weekend so that you can make arrangements for your child to complete his/her work using someone else’s computer if your home computer or internet is not functional. Please help your child to not wait until the last minute to complete such work. There is such an assignment due on Monday.

Help Session

Help sessions are arranged on an as-needed basis.

Please do not hesitate to ask me to work individually with your child.

In lieu of my help, there are always resources on-line for just about everything we study.

Students who have trouble accessing the blog and/or podcasts may use the help session to gain access to these at school.

Food Days (Bon Appetit!!!)

Food days are a wonderful way to learn more about the cultures of the Francophone world.

Our first food day is next Friday, September 2nd. Students have been assigned a type of dish to bring (hors d’oeuvre, entrée, side (vegetable, salad, rice, etc.) or dessert) to bring in.

Parent help will be greatly appreciated. Please e-mail me (see my handout for the address) if you can assist us.

Traveling with Madame

Due to graduate school, my next trip will be the summer of 2007. This gives your child plenty of time to raise funds to join me on a

most INCREDIBLE experience! This trip will be to PARIS, the LOIRE VALLEY, and NORMANDY

– I know how good it is because I have done it before. If you think that you are at all interested in this opportunity, please

e-mail me and I will put you on a trip distribution list and contact you at the beginning of next year.

Please note that trips are not sponsored by Mabry or Cobb County.
