    If the trees on Boone Hall Plantation could talk theywould speak o a bygone era. They would tell stories o trials and

    tribulations during rural beginnings and war as Major John Boonerst settled on the land. They would share ond memories o prosper-

    ity during Antebellum days as the plantation fourished. They would

    tell tales o northern and southern division during the Civil War and

    the reaction o slaves as word spread o their reedom. Come visit

    Year-Round ProgramsExploring the Past

    Students will tour Boone Hall Plantation and Gardens and learn about its history

    and the workings o a Southern plantation. The tour will include various buildings

    on the property and discussion about how the plantation was developed and

    operated, crops that were grown and lie on the plantation.

    Length:45 mins.-1 hour Grades:3rd-8th

    Cash Crops on a Plantation

    Students will learn about the early economic history o a Southern plantationand about the many actors that shaped the economy o our nation. Students

    will experience what it was like to own and operate a large plantation through

    hands-on activities such as rice throwing and indigo dying. They will also gain an

    understanding about how modern arm practices have replaced old ones.

    Length:1.5 hours Grades:3rd-5th

    Ed-Ventures

    Take a journey to experience the natural history and beauty o Boone Hall

    Plantation and Gardens. Groups can choose our o the ollowing topics: 1) Salt

    Marsh Nursery 2) Whos Hiding in the Woods? 3) Whats Between Your Toes?

    (Plants) 4) Youre Going to Eat That? (Farm Agriculture) 5) Bugs in the Water 6)

    One Mans Trash (Archeology) 7) Slave Cabin Tour.

    Length:2 hours Grades:3rd-8th

    Discovering Nature

    The grounds o Boone Hall Plantation are abundant with all lie orms. Journey with

    our educational sta on a wagon ride around the plantation and learn about the

    agricultural crops grown on the land, try your hand at cast-netting (weather permit-

    ting) and soak up all the sights and sounds on the grounds. You will end your tripwith a crat project while learning more about the natural environment at Boone Hall.

    Seasonal ProgramsBeyond the Big House(available Mar.-Oct.)

    Students will learn about lie as a slave on a Southern plantation. They will view

    the nine original slave cabins, exhibits and artiacts. The program will allow par-

    ticipants to learn about plantation hierarchy, the Gullah cultural and language and

    the role o slavery in the success o a plantation.

    Length:1-1.5 hours Grades:3rd-8th

    Butterfies and Botany (available Apr.-Sept.)

    Explore the world o the butterfy and discover the dierent lie stages o this mag-

    nicent creature. Student will get to walk through the Boone Hall Butterfy Pavilion

    to see many species, explore their habitat, learn about butterfy survival techniques

    and basic needs that all animals need to survive.

    Length:1 hour Grades:PreK-3rd

    Butterfies and Strawberries(available Apr.-June)

    Discover the relationship between butterfies and strawberries. Participants willstart at the Strawberry U-Pick eld to learn all about strawberries where they will

    be able to pick about a pint o resh strawberries. The tour will then take students

    on a tractor ride to the Boone Hall Butterfy Pavilion to learn all about butterfies.

    Pickin in the Strawberry Patch (available Apr.-June)

    Walk through the plantations strawberry elds to discover how a strawberry grows.

    Learn about its lie cycle and nd out how humans have used strawberries throughthe centuries. During your program, pick a pint o resh strawberries to take home.

    Length:1 hour Grades:: PreK-3rd

    Pickin in the Pumpkin Patch (available in October only)

    Explore Boone Halls legendary Pumpkin Patch. You will discover what pumpkins

    need in order to grow, about a pumpkins complete lie cycle, and what humans have

    used pumpkins or over the years. Participants can pick a pumpkin to take home.

    Length:1 hour Grades:PreK-3rd

    Outreach ProgramsBoone Hall Plantation oers outreach programs where our education specialists

    will come to your school and teach your students about the ollowing:

    Butterfy Lie Cycle(available Apr.-Sept.) learn about the dierent stages

    o the butterfys lie cycle, plants they eat and how they lay their eggs. View but-

    terfies and caterpillars through magniying glasses.

    Pumpkin Lie Cycle(October) Explore the lie cycle o a pumpkin rom seed

    to your doorstep on Halloween. Educators will cut up a pumpkin to show the liecycle and learn about the parts o a pumpkin through sensory awareness. Students

    will do a crat and receive a pumpkin to take home rom Boone Hall Plantation.
