I t was as if they had been

reaching for one another

forever. Like two young

lovers separated by time and

space, unable to fulfill their

longings, until one day, after

years and perhaps decades of

yearning; they touch. They

intertwine in a loving embrace

never to be broken. They sigh in

their contentment knowing full

well that they will never part, not

in this life time at least. As time

slowly marches on, their love for

one another never fades, but it

does change with the years. From

intense passion and voracious

longing to quiet companionship

and stalwart support, their love

never becomes cracked and dry, it

only cures and strengthens with

time until one day they can tell no

longer who is supporting whom.

They have become one; equally

reliant and equally supportive.

Now with their journey

accomplished and the struggle

behind them, they can rest; and so

on their outstretched arms,

surrounded by a love full of years,

a lone mocking bird fills the night

air with his song. The song is

eerie in the night. The low

country fog has risen and now

filters the sound adding mystery

and just a touch of

otherworldliness to the melody.

The ever-present Spanish moss

shrouds the lovers with a

covering of lace, the intimacy of

which gives a visitor pause.

This is a private, personal

world, and to enter in seems

almost profane; but with the

dawn comes the admirers and

the dreamers of days past and

the evidence of God’s blessing

on these magnificent creatures.

The golden light of dawn comes

with the morning and with the

light, the majesty of these

venerable old trees is made

evident. As the sunlight filters

through the age old branches

and dapples the fallen leaves

beneath, a sense of timeless

peace fills the space. As the

morning mists dance within the

light, the foreboding of last

night vanishes to be replaced by

a welcoming, ageless calm; but

it is in the storm where the true

majesty of these old souls

comes to the fore. As the

lightning flashes above and the

earth shakes to the sound of

thunder beneath, these old trees

remain at their post; never

faltering, never cowering,

forever challenging Mother

Nature to do her worst while

they do their best. Shaking their

fists at the sky and standing

their ground defiant, undefeated

and unashamed.

For two hundred and seventy

some odd years these same trees

have stood sentry over the land.

They have seen the birth of a

nation. They have witnessed

beneath their outstretched limbs

the tragedy of that same nation

at war with itself. They have felt

the pain of brother against

brother, of families torn asunder

and have looked on in horror as

human beings were bought and

sold like cattle.

They have listened to the

melody of children, slave and

free, black and white playing

beneath their sheltering limbs.

They have heard the old men

talk of times gone by and the

young men speak of the future.

They have reveled at the sound

of hymns being sung and

prayers being raised to their

God. They have seen love and

hate, joy and heartbreak, sorrow

and rejoicing. They have seen it

all.

I wonder what they think of us.

Outstretched Arms (cont.)

In the course of eleven

generations they have

seen much: wars and

rumors of wars;

nations rising against

nations, kingdoms

against kingdoms.

Do they think us evil

or good, a blessing or

a curse? Does the good

outweigh the bad?

Does the Holy

outweigh the evil? I

pray it does, but to be

honest there have been times

when I have wondered.

There have been times when the

evil in the world has pressed

down on my soul; times when

the darkness appears so

pervasive that I fear there is no

escaping; times when Satan

appears for all the world to have

(Continued from page 1) won the day.

Then I am reminded of a young

man, a man of peace and love; a

man filled to overflowing with

understanding and compassion,

and I remember a world dead set

against him. I remember Him

bloody, battered and bruised for

my sake standing his ground

defiant, undefeated and

unashamed. From the very Cross

he shakes his fist in Satan’s

face declaring; “You do your

worst, I will do my

best.”

I remember my Lord

and Savior Jesus Christ

rising up on Easter

morning declaring

“There is a better way,

love trumps all!” Then

it comes to my mind

that I am His child, and

I know then, that no

matter how much the

darkness threatens; the

light will always win

the day. No matter the storm,

with Christ comes peace.

Love,

Pastor Tony

Children’s Ministry

Thanks to Kim Patterson for leading us

in a fantastic week of Vacation Bible

School. Thanks to our outstanding

Junior and Senior Youth for all your

help and to our wonderful adults who

are always ready to work with our

children. Over 80 children walked in

the steps of Jesus as they learned who

he really is and how much he loves us

each and every day. God has

truly blessed Beulah with

beautiful children who want to

learn and older youth and adults

who want to help them know

their Heavenly Father.

Jesus and Me (J.A.M.) will meet

July 12 and July 26 from 4 pm

until 6 pm. All children are invited

to come for Bible study,

craft/experiment time, and play

time. Also mark your calendar for

August 9 from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm

for our Back to School Skating

Party. More on this next month.

critical situation of Tommy Taylor, a

lifelong resident of this community and

our brother in Christ. Come on out and

help us support his need at a Gospel

Singing Benefit, Saturday, July 25 in

the Beulah Family Life Center at 6:00

pm.

Performing will be:

Family

The Shirey’s

The Beulahland Quartet

Refreshments will be served and

there will be a Bake Sale as well.

All proceeds will help fund a

lifesaving operation for Tommy

not covered by insurance. He

needs a miracle...so there will

also be an abundance of prayers for

divine healing at this service.

For those who cannot attend, please

see Theresa George or John

Schofield if you wish to support or

help in any way. Give as God leads

you.

Please pray for this event and

especially for God to intercede on

Tommy’s behalf. Thanks for your

support! God bless you!

Beth Moore Simulcast Coming September 12

A live worldwide simulcast event for women called Living Proof Live with Beth Moore will be hosted by

Beulah United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 12, 2015. This event is sponsored by Kenneth

Shuler Schools of Cosmetology and joins women from around the world to encourage a deeper understanding

of the Word of God. Living Proof Live is a fun-filled Bible study, teaching, and worship experience to enrich

the mind, soul, and spirit. Bible teacher Beth Moore brings a fresh

Word from God to each Living Proof Live event - no two are the

same. As she explores the Bible and how it applies to real life,

women will be encouraged by her own experiences as a believer

and will be inspired to magnify and strengthen their own

relationship with God.

Doors open for registration and fellowship at 9:00 a.m. The

simulcast will begin at 10:30 a.m. and conclude at 5:15

p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance/$30 at the door and are available

for purchase at www.beulahunitedmethodistchurch.org via PayPal.

Payment by check will also be accepted and can be mailed to the

church along with the registration form (online and at church). The

ticket price includes access to the event and listening guide; a light Continental breakfast, lunch, and

afternoon snack; and a welcome bag. Seating is limited, so get your tickets early!

REFIT® Master Class Beulah UMC will be hosting a REFIT® Master Class on Thursday, July 30th in the Family Life Center. This class

will be taught by the founders of REFIT, who will be traveling from Texas to visit our area. The class will be from

6:30 until 8:00 and is guaranteed to be lots of fun and a great workout. Whether you currently attend a REFIT®

class or not, all are welcomed to attend the Master Class. The fee is $10 in advance or $15 at the door. You may

register by going online to refitrev.com or by contacting Mary Rowell, if you wish for her to handle your registration.

Please pass the word in the community. We are so blessed to have these highly skilled individuals come to our

church. Let’s make it a great success!

BEULAH NEWS PAGE 10

A God-Created Super Star “God made … the greater light to rule the day …” (Genesis 1:16, NRSV). The first biblical description of Creation reveals that God made the sun — a truly amazing body of light. At the sun’s center (where the temperature reaches 15 million degrees!), every second, 600 million tons of hydrogen fuse into 596 million tons of helium. The 4 million “missing” tons become sunshine, making life on earth possible. The sun’s magnetic field (which reverses direction every 11 years) and the resulting sunspots and solar flares impact the earth in ways most of us rarely think about. Writes Dennis Overbye in the New York Times: “In all of recorded history, as far as scientists have been able to tell, the sun’s output has varied by only a tenth of a percent.” If the sun were more volatile, like many stars, earth would either burn up or freeze at regular intervals. As you spend time outside this summer, give

thanks for this bright marvel that God designed.

Freedom Under God Our status of dominion [over creation] derives from God's delegated authority. We do not exist as auton-omous persons at liberty to do as we please. Our privilege of dominion does not mean freedom from God; it means freedom under God. Our commission to be subrulers under God carries with it enormous responsibilities. ... He intends for us to rise above the rest of the created order and to participate rationally and responsibly in his divine purposes.
