Our Mission is to know, serve & love Christ within my self, family, church, community and the world.

Two Important Ideas and Two Important Sundays There are two ideas that I would like

to share with everyone in the congregation.

These two ideas are important and will

impact how we take care of the necessary

ministry tasks at the church that enable us to

fulfill our mission of bringing people into

relationship with Jesus Christ and helping

them grow in their faith. The first idea has to

do with how we handle the necessary

administrative tasks of trustees, finance,

nominations, and personnel tasks in staff

parish relations. The second idea has to do

with how we fund trustees today and how that would work if we make the

budget of trustees a part of our regular church budget. It is easiest to talk

about these ideas in a setting where I can share the ideas more in depth than

I can in writing and then give you an opportunity to ask questions at the

same time.

The first two Sundays in November on the 1st and the 8th, I will

have much shorter messages and would like to take time during the

worship service to talk about the possibility of these two ideas being

implemented at our church to enable us to better pursue God’s mission of

making disciples of Jesus Christ. I will give plenty of time to share the ide-

as and answer questions. Then following the presentation of these ideas I

would like to receive your thoughts or feedback. If either of these ideas are

implemented, they will only be done so after the church as a whole has had

an opportunity to vote on and approve them at our Annual Church Confer-

ence which will be at 7:00 pm Tuesday, December 1st. I hope that you will

have an opportunity to be in worship on the first two Sundays in November

to hear firsthand about these possibilities.

I am so thankful to be your pastor as we work together to bring

more people into a life-giving relationship with Jesus Christ. I look forward

to talking with everyone at these services.

Acts 2 Fund adding Pizza Coupons!

Acts 2:44-47 talks about the believers (of Jesus) who had much in common and would sell their goods and give the proceeds to those in need.

That is the basis of the Acts 2 Fund that givers at Bethel Church contribute to on the first Sunday of each month.

This fund is used to help those in our church or community who are in need of help at times.

In addition to cash donations for our Acts 2 Fund, we want you to save your Casey’s Pizza coupons that come on the box. These coupons will be shared with people that may just need a quick meal for their family.

MENTORS ARE STILL NEEDED!

The Mentoring Program for grades 1-6 at Eastland Elementary School will begin on Wednesday, November 4th and we need more people to sign up to be a mentor!

There are children in our com-munity who really need an adult friend to be there for them, to talk to them and to help get that homework done! It is an excel-lent opportunity to be a mission-ary right in our own community!

Mentoring starts in November and goes through February each Wednesday from 3:15 to 4:30 p.m. except on those Wednesdays there is no school for any reason or is school gets out early for bad weather.

There will be 5 sessions in 2015 and 8 sessions in 2016. If you cannot help all four months, we’ll take whatever times you can help!

Please sign up on the counter outside the office at the church or call the office at 815-864-2581.

Questions? Call Jane at 815-864-2643

Neighborhood Coffees - Have You Been to One Yet?

We would like Pastor Mike and Janis to be-come better acquainted with our church families and our neighborhoods (Shannon, Pearl City, Freeport, and Lake Carroll included).

So far five Neighborhood Coffees have been held and one more is scheduled. If you haven’t been invited to one yet, would you consider hosting a cof-fee? It is casual and doesn’t have to be fancy. Just friends over for coffee!

Any questions? Please call Mari in the church office or Michele Horner at (864-2533) or [email protected].

Our thanks for your support,

Michele Horner, Staff/ Parish Committee If you did not get an invitation by

email last week, please send an email

to the church office and we’ll make

sure you do!

THANK YOU

The UMW would like to THANK everyone for

their purchases of Blarney Stone Popcorn and

the cash donations. These funds along with

some generous Memorial donations will enable

us to purchase a dishwasher for the Church

kitchen. Thank you again for supporting the

UMW.

Community Christmas Food Baskets

This fall we will be collecting items to be placed in the

Food Boxes that will be delivered in December to families in

Shannon and Lanark for Christmas. Bethel is responsible

for providing dish soap and laundry detergent to be

placed in the boxes. We need to collect 60 of each so that

each family can have a bottle of dish soap and a bottle of

laundry detergent. During the month of November we will

have a large container in the narthex for you to place the

items in. Or you can write a check to the church and put in

the memo section, Food Boxes, and we will use the money to

purchase the necessary items. Thank you for your generosity

in meeting the needs of families

in our community. We will

include in the food boxes a

schedule of all our church

services in the community. Our

hope is not only to meet the

immediate needs of families but

also connect them to Jesus Christ

who is the only one who can meet

all of our needs.
