ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT Bethany Anderson COLLEGE: College of Social Work DEGREE: MSW ‘03 CAREER: School Social Worker NOTABLE: Bethany is an LISW-S and works with the Ohio Department of Education. She currently serves at Canal Winchester Local Schools as the District Behavior Specialist where she works to remove non-academic barriers for a variety of school-age clients. Bethany provides individual therapy for children with special needs, psycho-educational groups to address pro-social skills, and evaluations of social/emotional barriers to learning by conducting functional behavior assessments. She also creates behavioral and mental health goals for individual education plans, provides crisis intervention, assesses lethality, and links students with their families to hospitals and various social service agencies. In collaboration with school personnel, she provides evaluation team reports. Trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Bethany is on the Central Ohio Schools Crisis Response Team. She also serves as a Field Instructor for The Ohio State University College of Social Work. Prior to working with Canal Winchester Local Schools, Bethany was a School Based Clinician with Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where she worked with emotionally disturbed children within Columbus City Schools. She also served as a student advocate with Communities in Schools/Project GRAD and directed the pilot program, “The Everyday Counts Attendance Improvement Project” within Columbus City Schools.
