Locker/Desk Clean Out: A reminder to all grade 7 & 8 students to clean out your lockers and take your locks. New lockers will be installed over the March Break so the old ones will be gone! Students will be reassigned new lockers when they return after the break. Students in the other grades can also clean out their desks and bring home any personal items, extra clothes and shoes to check for sizes.

Appropriate Dress: Just a few reminders now that the warm weather may soon be here and you may be searching out for spring/summer wear. Our students are expected to dress in a manner that is respectful and modest, while making allowances for changeable weather. In very hot weather, students are expected to be appropriately covered and to wear clothing that does not expose undergarments. We do have a dress code in effect that we reinforce. Student clothing must meet the following criteria:

• When arms are at the side, shorts can be no shorter than mid palm • Tops must meet bottoms (no midriff showing or backless/halter tops) • No muscle shirts • No tops that are secured by strings around the neck (safety issues especially for little ones) • Tank tops must be three fingers wide

Younger students might want to bring an extra set of clothes (particularly socks) for those really wet rainy days.

New Sport Courts: We are currently installing 3 sport courts: two in the North yard and one in the south yard. Students are very excited! A schedule will be created for opportunities for different grades to play. If students are playing with mini sticks, it is recommended that proper eye gear be worn. Mini sticks cannot be sawed off hockey sticks and must be below the student knee (30 cm max).

A Message from our Home and School Committee …

Dear Parents:

We are very excited to see so many keen participants signed up to audition for the Bessies this year. While the name of this evening has been changed from ‘Cabaret’ to ‘The Bessies’, the format and spirit of the show remains the same - everyone is a winner! Our goal is to encourage and celebrate all students and their natural enthusiasm for performing, talents and school spirit. We look forward to seeing as many students on stage as possible while raising funds for our school.

Please see the attached audition sign up schedule for your child’s date and time. Click on the dates at the top of the spreadsheet.

Important Audition Notes:

• auditions will take place in the Bessborough library. We endeavor to adhere as closely as possible to the audition times as posted, and appreciate your understanding if things run slightly behind schedule on occasion.

• individual acts should be maximum 1 minute and group acts 1 min. 30 seconds in length.

• students should come prepared to perform with music cued to the appropriate start with props if needed.

• we have encouraged all participants to come prepared with a polished performance. Callbacks may be required in some cases. Students will be notified via email on April 2nd.

• the final list of successful acts to be performed at The Bessies will be posted at the Bessie corner on April 7th.

• successful acts will need to provide us with a copy of their music. There are two ways to do this: 1. Burn a CD and bring to audition. Please mark the title of the song and the names of the performers on the CD. 2. Send your song as an MP3 file to John Tzanetakis at [email protected] cut to length you wish. Please see attached instructions.

• successful acts will need to be available for the dress rehearsal on Thursday, April 30th and the show on Friday, May 1st - both held in the evening at Leaside High School.

• Please email us at [email protected] with any questions.

Your Bessie Convenors,

Jennifer Comish, Alison Rockwell and Michelle Iwata
