Dear Parents, Guardians and Students, Reflection

What Makes A Dad by Anonymous

God took the strength of a mountain, The majesty of a tree,

The warmth of a summer sun, The calm of a quiet sea,

The generous soul of nature, The comforting arm of night,

The wisdom of the ages, The power of the eagle's flight, The joy of a morning in spring,

The faith of a mustard seed, The patience of eternity,

The depth of a family need, Then God combined these qualities,

When there was nothing more to add, He knew His masterpiece was complete,

And so, He called it ... Dad Happy Father’s Day - See you on Friday

Community Code of Conduct/WWCC We have sent notes to all those who are yet to sign the Code of Conduct forms and ask that parents who help or work in the school, sign and return these by Friday 8th September. We ask that all parents who volunteer in any way also obtain a Working With Children Check. Insight Survey As part of our School Improvement Cycle each year, sixty parents are randomly selected to complete a survey. This provides information that we use to support school improvement and we encourage all those who receive the survey to complete it, either online or the hard copy provided. Facebook Remember to like us and encourage your friends to do the same! Thank you to those who have already liked and or followed our Facebook page. The purpose of our Facebook page is to share information about our school with the local community, advertise events and information about our school and to share useful resources, clips, videos, articles and websites that help engage and empower parents in learning success. Circus Program We will be holding a Big Top event at 7:00pm on Friday 27th October at the Coburg Town Hall and we would like a team of helpers to assist us in organising the event. This involves helping with ticketing and seating arrangements for the night. Please contact me via the school office if you are able to help. Extra-Curricular Activities Over the past weeks we have been reviewing the variety of extracurricular activities offered at our school. We are very proud of the many learning experiences the students are offered outside the normal classroom activities. An extracurricular activity is an educationally enriching activity, which enhances students’ experiences socially, academically, physically, creatively or intellectually. Such activities may be grouped into the following categories: - Spiritual Academic Sporting Social Justices Program Excursions/incursions Hot Shots Tennis Sacrament Preparation Camp Program F-6 Cross Country First Eucharist reflection day Book Club Athletics Mass participation Navigator’s Group Swimming Christian meditation GRIN Group Interschool Sport Mini Mission Fete (Getting Ready in Numeracy) Feast day celebration Things are Changing Social/Emotional The Arts Leadership Buddy Program String Ensemble School Leaders Transition Program Music Walk-in House Leaders Taste of School Program Choir Social Justice Crew Child Safety Book Week activities Student Representative Council Buddy Zone Instrumental lessons Artist In Schools - Circus 2017 Diary Dates Please make note of these important dates in your dairies. Cross Country News

Last Saturday 26th August, Niamh Tabit represented St Bernard’s in Sydney at the Australian Cross Country Championships. Niamh competed in the Under 14 Girls category. The majority of the runners were 13 years old. Competitors for the IAAF World Cross Country Championships are selected from this

race. Once again Niamh did a marvelous job and finished the race in 11th position. This was a fantastic performance considering that Niamh was one of the youngest competitors in the field. Her distance running is continuing to go from strength to strength. Coburg District Athletics Championships

Our athletics team is competing today at Harold Stephens Athletics Track. Hopefully all of our athletes perform to their potential and we have a great day as individuals and as a team. I will let you know the results in next week's Bernardo.

Celebrating Picture Story Books

Next week during their LIT lessons, every child in the school will be asked to borrow a picture story book to take home. It would be wonderful if you spent some time exploring this book with your child and share it as a family. Library Bags
