Bergamini Deborah is a professional journalist. After obtaining a degree in American Studies and Political Marketing she begins working as a journalist in 1993. She is chief editor for Analyses et Synthèses based in Paris and in 1997 becomes a journalist for Bloomberg. She is then employed by Silvio Berlusconi as communications consultant. She then occupied various management positions in Rai, the Italian national public broadcasting company and is appointed as a consultant to the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities. to parliament for the first time in 2008 with Popolo della Libertà, she is then re-elected a second time in 2013. She is the secretary of the delegation to the parliamentary assembly of the council of Europe and Member of the Foreign and Comunitarian Affairs Committee.
Blaha Lubos Slovakia, SMER [email protected]
Blaha Lubos is a Slovak philosopher, political scientist and politician. Currently he is a Member of Parliament for the left-wing SMER party. He worked for the former Speaker of the National Council of the Slovak Republic Pavol Paška (SMER). Blaha worked for the Communist Party of Slovakia as the Head of the International Department. After the 2006 Slovak parliamentary election Blaha worked for the Speaker of the National Council of the Slovak Republic Pavol Paška of the social democratic SMER party. Additionally Blaha works as a political scientist at Slovak Academy of Sciences and as a doctor of philosophy. In the 2010 Slovak parliamentary election Blaha ran as a candidate for the SMER party. In 2006 Blaha wrote a book called "Social Justice and Identity" and yet another in 2009 called "Back to Marx?" which was awarded by the Prize of Slovak Literature Fund as the 2009 best book in Slovakia in the category of Humanities and Social Sciences. Within this book Blaha draws a philosophy of a social security system deriving from conservative, liberal and social democratic concepts.

Franziska Brantner has been Member of the German Bundestag and the Greens group in the Bundestag (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) since October 2013. Prior to this, she was a Member of the European Parliament for four years, acting as the Greens’/EFA’s foreign affairs spokesperson and as rapporteur for the Instrument for Stability. She also was her group’s chief negotiator for the establishment and review of the European External Action Service. Mediterranean spheres and was head of Interregional Cooperation in the
Secretariat for Foreign Affairs of the Generalitat (Government) of Catalonia.
She lectures on European Union institutional dynamics and policies and
contributes on a regular basis in different areas of the mass media as an analyst
of European news. Her main areas of professional interest are the European
Union, its institutions and foreign relations.

Maria de la Fuente holds a degree in Philosophy at Universitat de Barcelona and a PhD in Political Sciences at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. She is vice-president of Fundació Nous Horitzons (www.noushoritzons.org), a think tank linked to ICV, and former chief editor of Nous Horitzons Journal (2007-2010). She is also member of the Ethics and Democratic Guarantees Committee in ICV, and she was Secretary of Women and Gender Policies at ICV’s Executive Board between 2001 and 2007. She has carried out several researches focused on feminist theory and gender in politics and policies. She is involved in the women’s movement at local level and leads a non-profit project aimed to transfer statistical knowledge about gender inequalities in Catalonia (Observatori IQ, www.iqobservatori.org).

Eliamep Director - General, received his Ph.D. in International Relations from Cambridge University and has held research posts at the Hessische Stiftung Friedens und Konfliktforschung (1989-90) and the Center for Science and International Affairs (CSIA) at Harvard University (1990-91). He served as the Director for Research, Strategic Studies Division, Hellenic Ministry of National Defence (1996-98) and as an Advisor on NATO issues to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1998-1999). He was a NATO research fellow for 1996-98. He is currently the Director-General of ELIAMEP. He has taught at the Universities of Athens and Piraeus, the Hellenic National Defense College, the Diplomatic Academy and the Hellenic National Security School.

Arndt Freytag von Loringhoven has been Deputy Director General of the European Union department of Germany’s Foreign Office in Berlin since 2010. Following his entry into the foreign service in 1986 he held different political and strategy positions, including at Germany’s embassies in Moscow and Paris. He was Vice President of the Bundesnachrichtendienst from 2007 to 2010. Arndt holds a PhD in Sciences. From 1984 to 86 he was a researcher at Munich’s Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry. His earlier studies – including at Oxford University, in Berlin, and Bonn – included history, philosophy and biochemistry.

Paula Gil, from Lisbon, has for many years been involved in grassroot movements and was one of the initiators and organizers of the “Geracao a Rasca” (“Precarious Generation”) protest that gathered 500,000 people in the streets of Portugal on March 12th, 2011. The aim was better labour conditions, especially for university graduates who were desperate to start a career and earn a living. The protest’s momentum spread throughout the country on the basis of a manifest (“The Precarious Generation Manifest”). Paula Gil graduated in International Relations at the University of Coimbra, Portugal, and has a Masters in International Politics and Security Studies at the Peace Studies Department of the University of Bradford, UK.

Josef Janning is Mercator Fellow at the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) in Berlin, and Founder and President of Minds & More – Global Network Partners, a Bonn based company for policy research and advice on European and International Affairs. He holds a BA in International Relations from Elmira College, New York, U.A.S., and a MA in Political Science from Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn, Germany. Previously Director of Studies at the European Policy Centre in Brussels. Prior to that he worked as Senior Director for International and Global Affairs for a decade at the Bertelsmann Stiftung in Germany. Earlier positions included serving as Deputy Director of the Center for Applied Policy Research at Munich University and heading the Research Group on Europe at Mainz University as well as various teaching positions. He has been, and is, Chairman and member of various international study groups, high-level groups and commissions on European affairs, East-West and Mediterranean issues, security policies and transatlantic relations.

Maximilian Kiehn is on the board of the European Youth Parliament (EYP) in Germany, one of 36 national organisations of the EYP who offer political education on European issues. Maximilian is also a student at Berlin’s Humboldt University, concentrating on Scandinavian and Northern European Studies. He has a particular interest in the development of the northern European welfare state.

Guillaume Klossa chairs EuropaNova, a European think tank based in Paris dedicated to European integration and European general interest. EuropaNova federates new generations of European opinion shapers in all disciplines. Guillaume was special adviser to Jean-Pierre Jouyet, the minister in charge of the French presidency of the European Union before serving the reflection group on the future of Europe chaired by former premier Felipe Gonzalez at European Council. He then worked on the economic governance of the EU and the eurozone. In 2011-2012, Guillaume chaired the commission "Innovation and production in Europe" of the French Ministry of Economy and Finance, which led him to study innovation and production policies of Brazil, China and the USA. Guillaume has also worked in the private sector where he held top management responsibilities; in particular he was vice president for McDonald's. He is a graduate of HEC Business School, Sciences Po Paris and London School of Economics.

Isidro López (Madrid, 1973), sociologist. He is a researcher in the Observatorio Metropolitano of Madrid. In this collective he has taken part in the writing of the collective works about Madrid, Spain and Europa "Madrid ¿La suma de todos?", "La crisis que viene" or "Crisis and revolution in Europe". He has co-written with Emmanuel Rodríguez, also member of the Observatorio Metropolitano, "Fin de ciclo: Financiarización , territorio y sociedad de propietarios en la onda larga del capitalismo español (1959-2010)" (End of cycle: financialization, territory and ownserhip society in the long wave of spanish capitalism 1959-2010) and the article "The Spanish Model" in the New Left Review may/june 2011. During several years he was resaercher in the Spanish Observatory for Sustainability in which he took part in the edition of both thematic and general reports about the economic, social and environmental situation in Spain.

Malan began his career in politics in 1992 with the Lega Nord Piemont where he is in charge of organization and of the political secretariat. He is first elected in 1992 for Polo delle Libertà – Lega Nord in 1995 he is elected as Secretary of the Presidency of the Camera, the Italian lower house. Silvio Berlusconi employs him in 1997 to manage his party’s (Forza Italia) propaganda. Since 2001 he is senator and since 2006 he has been the secretary to the Presidency of the Senate, the Italian upper house. He is a member of the Committee for Constitutional Affairs, the Commission for Territory and the Environment and a member of foreign affairs commission. Former member of NATO’s as well as the Council of Europe’s parliamentary assembly and of the assembly of the West European Union. Author of the book “Super Silvio” on Silvio Berlusconi as well as co-author of “Perché la Sinistra non ha vinto” and “Urne tradite” on Italian politics.
Mayte Peters Germany, Publixphere
Chair, Publixphere e.V. Mayte Peters is initiator and chair of Publixphere e.V., a non-partisan, non-profit political debate platform (www.publixphere.de). From 2011-2013, she led a research project on the political public sphere in the European Union at Berlin’s Free University. She is the co-ordinator of the Network of Internet & Society Research Centers, a joint initiative of academic institutions - including the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society and the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University - focusing on interdisciplinary research on the development, social impact, policy implications, and legal issues concerning the Internet. Mayte studied international relations at the University of St. Gallen, from where she holds a doctorate, and is a frequent public speaker on civil and youth participation and the future of European democracy.

From 2000 to 2005 she occupied the position of Project Officer at the European Commission Delegation to the Republic of Slovenia. From 2007 to 2008 she is EU Progamme Manager and Liaison officer for the International Centre for Migration Policy Development. In 2009 she becomes General Secretary of the National Council of Carinthian Slovenes. From 2005 to 2010 she is founder/manager of slovenian company “Angelski keksi”. Since June 2009 she is the leader of Austrian Liberal Forums.

Esther Niubó Cidoncha has a degree in Political Science and Public Administration, specializing in International Relations, from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. MA in International Politics from the Université Libre de Bruxelles, in International Trade and Economics from the University of Barcelona, and in Public and Social Policies from the Pompeu Fabra University-Johns Hopkins University. She has worked as adviser at the European and International Policy Secretariat of the Catalan Socialists Party (PSC) (2001-2004), and as MEP assistant at the European Parliament (2004-2009). She has also worked in the campaigns of the PSC for the elections to the European Parliament in 2009, for the elections to the Catalan Parliament in 2010 and of the general elections in 2011. From 2010 to 2012, she has collaborated as academic associate with the Department of Social Sciences at ESADE. She is currently director of the Foundation Rafael Campalans and since December 2011, she is also Secretary for European Policy of the PSC.

Lia Quartapelle is 31 years old, she has a Master’s degree in Economics from SOAS in London and a Phd in Development Economics from the University of Pavia. In 2007 she moved to Mozambique where she worked for the government as economist. She is currentlya researcher at the Istituto per gli Studi di Politica Internazionale di Milano, as well as teaching development politics at the University of Pavia. She began her political career in 2007 with the Partito Democratico and was elected member of the National Assembly in 2009. She is also a Member of the Foreign Affairs Commission.

Verena Ringler is a Project Manager on Europe at Stiftung Mercator and Curator of the European Forum Alpbach’s political talks. Verena has worked on Europe from places as distinct as Washington, as associate editor with Foreign Policy magazine (2002-06) and Pristina, as EU public affairs advisor for the European Council (2006-09). In 2012, she led an Unconventional Summit on the EU’s future. Verena spoke at TEDx and is the winner of an EU Young Journalist Award.

Born in Segovia, 1974, now living in Madrid. Due to his passion for photography he became interested in the #spanishrevolution/15M/indignados movement just after its beginning; to use the images to help people to understand what movement is about, and what they want to achieve. He quickly evolved from a supporter to an activist, firstly at Democracia Real Ya, where he helped the successful organization of the global protest of the October 15, 2011; and different demonstrations and campaigns against the austerity measures imposed by the right-wing government during 2012. During the past year he also participates in the group enRed, which promotes constituent process from the ground up, participatory and radically democratic.

Ingo Rollwagen is a foresight specialist, working as a Senior Analyst for Deutsche Bank Research, the think tank of Deutsche Bank. He is monitoring developments in education systems and markets; identifying emerging value-creation opportunities of different industries in the structural transition knowledge economy. Before joining Deutsche Bank Research, he has been working for several years for DaimlerChrysler´s Society and Technology Research Group in Berlin. Rollwagen also worked as an expert for the European Commission on "Global Europe in 2030/2050", as well as governments and other institutions concerning education, lifelong learning, technology assessment, foresight and future technological, societal and economical developments.

Programme Assistant for Europe at the Istituto Affari Internazionali, Chiara Rosselli has previously held a position as Research and Project Assistant at Notre Europe – Jacques Delors Institute where she was in charge of managing and coordinating a consortium of 17 partner think tanks within the context of the ‘Think Global –Act European Project’. She holds a Bsc in Economics and Politics from Queen Mary University of London, an MA in European Studies from Luiss School of Government in Rome and an MA in International Affairs and International Public Management from Sciences Po Paris.

Manuel Sarrazin has studied history, Eastern European studies and law first at the University of Bremen, then at the University of Hamburg. Joined the Alliance 90/The Greens Green Alternative List (GAL) party in Hamburg in 1998. Won the 2002 Bertini prize with the "Future Bus" project, within the framework of "Jugendinitiative Politik". From March 2008 member of the team of spokespersons for the GAL working group on European affairs, peace and international affairs, since June 2008 member and since October 2011 vice chairman of the executive committee of the Hamburg branch of Alliance 90/The Greens GAL. From March 2004 to May 2008 Member of the Hamburg Parliament and spokesman for the GAL parliamentary group on European and international affairs and youth participation. Member of the German Bundestag since May 2008; member of the Committee on the Affairs of the European Union, the Subcommittee on European Union Issues, and substitute member of the Budget Committee. David Schlösser works at Germany’s Schwarzkopf Foundation, which supports young people’s civic education focusing on pan-European understanding and on raising awareness about the European idea. David is in charge to develop a dialogue format that connects young voices with leading figures from the realms of politics, economics, media and culture. He holds a European Studies degree from universities in Germany and the Netherlands. For a number of years, David has built a record in political youth education with stints at Roland Berger Foundation, the Regional Agency for Civic Education and the European University Viadrina.

Brid Smith is an elected Councillor for the People Before Profit Alliance in Ballyfermot/Drimnagh, a member of the Unite Trade Union and one of the key organisers of the Anti-Austerity Protest on behalf of the Campaign Against Household and Water Taxes. She co-chaired the entire event along with Michael O Reilly, President of the Dublin Council of Trade Unions. Brid is also a member of the SWP. Elected in 2006 into a grass-roots political movement. She is a socialist, feminist and trade unionist.

CIDOB Research Coordinator and Fellow. Soler I Lecha holds a PhD in International Relations from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Dr. Soler i Lecha is a political scientist and a part-time lecturer in International Relations at the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals and at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. In 2010 he was also seconded to the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs as an advisor in the Direction General for the Mediterranean, the Maghreb and the Middle East and he has also advised in several occasions the Catalan government on Euro-Mediterranean affairs. His main areas of expertise are: Euro-Mediterranean relations, Turkey’s foreign and domestic politics, North African and Middle Eastern political dynamics, Spain's Mediterranean policy and security cooperation in the Mediterranean. He has collaborated and published with the German Mashall Fund of the US and with some of Europe’s leading think-tanks. He is a member of the Observatory of European Foreign Policy and FIMAM (the Spanish network of researchers working on Arab and Muslim studies).

Georgios Stathakis is a member of the Greek Parliament with SYRIZA and the coordinator for the Ministry of Development. He acquired a Ph.D in economics in 1984 and has since 1988 he has been a professor of Political Economy at the University of Crete. He has worked in numerous research centres from the Mediterranean Studies Foundation to the Institute of Computing Tchnology of Patras, the Center for Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies of Queens College City University of New York and the Center for European Studies of Harvard University. Amongst his publications, “The Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan: The story of American aid in Greece”, “The Reform of CAP and Rural Development in Southern Europe (Perspectives on Rural Policy and Planning)” and “Essays on Marx”.

Nathalie Tocci is Deputy Director of the Istituto Affari Internazionali, head of the Institute's department The EU and the Neighbourhood and Editor of The International Spectator. She received her PhD in International Relations at the LSE in 2003. She was Research Fellow at the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS), Brussels (1999-2003), Jean Monnet and Marie Curie Fellow at the European University Institute, Florence (2003-2007), Associate Fellow at CEPS (2007-2009), and Senior Fellow at the Transatlantic Academy in Washington (2009-2010). Her research interests include European foreign policy, conflict resolution, the European neighbourhood, with a particular focus on Turkey, Cyprus, the Mediterranean and the Middle East and the South Caucasus. Dr Tocci is the winner of the 2008 Anna Lindh award for the study of European foreign policy.

He has previously run online campaigns for Harriet Harman and Ken Livingstone, worked for the UK civil service, and been President of the Young European Federalists (JEF-Europe).
