Where can I find out more?While we have tried our best to include as much information as possible in this booklet, other good sources of information regarding employee benefits include your Manager, HR Representative, regular newsletters, the new Connect Magazine, e-Link updates and our intranet site, the Junction.

How to use this resource

What are employee benefits?There are a suite of financial and non financial benefits for people working within the Asciano Group which includes Pacific National and Patrick’s ports, stevedoring and logistics.

1. FINANCIAL BENEFITS attract a direct financial discount or gain of some description.

2. NON-FINANCIAL BENEFITS may not attract a direct financial gain, but are benefits which add definite value to your employment at Asciano and outside work.

Who can enjoy these benefits?A range of employee benefits apply to all Asciano employees. The benefits outlined in this booklet apply to our salaried employees. You should however always refer to the relevant policy or terms and conditions of employment to confirm that the benefits are available to you.

Some benefits are offered directly through Asciano, whilst others have been negotiated directly with suppliers or vendors.

We recommend that you consider all options and what is right for your personal circumstances before committing yourself to any specific arrangement.

Pay and incentives

Pay and incentives are important to our lifestyle and purchasing choices. This section explains how your pay and incentives are calculated and where you can find out more information.

Remember, it is important to refer to other sources of information about these topics including your own employment contract, your Manager or HR Representative along with the Asciano intranet site, the Junction.

Your pay – the basicsEmployees who are engaged on a Common Law Contract (CLC) at Asciano are paid on a monthly basis on the 15th of each month. If you are new to Asciano your manager will confirm for you when your first payment date will occur.

Your employment contract will specify your Fixed Annual Remuneration (FAR). FAR is made up of base salary and any salary sacrifice benefits including any fringe benefit tax and superannuation.

FAR ranges apply to each job classification. At Asciano, our practise is to test FAR ranges against external market data annually to ensure our approach to remuneration is competitive and in line with contemporary market practice.

FAR for each employee is reviewed annually as part of the annual performance and salary review and any changes to FAR take effect 1 October each year.

You can use the Employee Self Service to review your leave balances, apply for leave, update your bank and personal details and access your performance documents.

If you have any questions regarding your pay, superannuation or payroll deductions you can direct these queries to your HR

Short Term Incentive Plans (STI Plan)The Asciano Group’s remuneration strategy is one which seeks to attract, retain and reward the best talent while building a performance oriented culture. To support this strategy, in addition to FAR, eligible employee’s remuneration may include participation in the STI Plan for the Financial Year.

The STI Plan is designed to reward employees for achieving business unit and/or Group Business Measures over the 12 month Annual Performance Review Period (July 1 to June 30).

As a general guide, eligible employees in job classifications A to D may participate in an STI Plan. Some classification E employees may also participate where this is specifically included as a component of their employment terms and conditions.

Your employment contract will detail your eligibility to participate in the Company’s STI Plan and further information can be accessed via the Junction > People & Learning > Employee Toolbox > Remuneration and Benefits.

day waiting period. The premium for the tier providing the first two year’s cover is paid by the Company and the premium for the second tier (to age 65) is paid by the employee out of their pre-tax income.

To ensure you do not have multiple salary continuance insurance plans, we recommend that you contact your superannuation fund to check if this insurance is not already provided under your current superannuation fund.

Novated leasingEligible employees are able to enter into novated leasing arrangements to purchase and run leased vehicles through their salary packages. For Asciano two providers are currently in place, SG Fleet and Remunerator.

Vehicles are packaged on a novated finance lease basis only. The administration of the vehicle is fully managed by the novated lease provider. Vehicle type, lease terms from 2 to 5 years and residual values (subject to ATO guidelines) are at the choice of the employee.

Purchasing additional annual leaveThe ability to purchase additional annual leave via a salary sacrifice arrangement is a benefit offered to all Asciano salaried employees. Salaried employees can purchase up to an additional four weeks leave by reducing their monthly salary.

In order to apply for this additional leave you must have an accrued annual leave balance of less than 5 weeks and an accrued long service leave balance of less than 3 months as at 31 October in the year of your application.

Once approved the total value of the leave you purchase (including superannuation payable when taken) will be treated as a deduction and spread across a period of 12 months in equal instalments aligned with the pay cycles. All your salary and leave payments across the year are then paid at the reduced rate in order for you to fund the leave purchase.

Where you purchase additional annual leave and you do not utilise this leave prior to 31 October the following year, it will not carry over to the next period. Your salary sacrifice will be paid back to you in the next available pay period with any tax and superannuation deducted in accordance with Asciano’s legal obligations.

Don’t miss out – The annual window to purchase additional annual leave is from 1 October through to 31 October each year.

Purchasing additional annual leaveAs outlined earlier in this booklet Asciano recently launched a new employee benefit which enables salaried employees who meet the required criteria to seek approval to purchase additional annual leave (please refer to Page 9 of the booklet for further information on criteria for applying for additional annual leave). The additional annual leave policy reflects Asciano’s commitment to help employees balance their work, family/carer and lifestyle commitments.

The aim is to provide employees with flexibility in accessing additional annual leave at times mutually agreed between employees and their managers. Eligible employees can apply to purchase up to an additional 4 weeks of annual leave per year between 1 November and 31 October by salary sacrificing an amount for the value of the leave from your salary package.

Your manager will have discretion when approving applications for leave and will consider the following factors:

• Your current leave balance;

• Operational and business requirements; and

• The general leave requirements of the work function.

Flexible work arrangementsAsciano is committed to exploring an employee’s need for flexibility in their work arrangements, subject to the reasonable needs of the business. Flexible work practices can include variations to:

• days of work;

• work location (working from home – this will not normally be used as a continuing or ongoing arrangement beyond a set period);

• hours (varying standard working hours); and

• may include other variations to standard working arrangements.

Job share arrangementsIn addition to flexible work arrangements job-sharing is another viable work solution offered within Asciano for all salaried employees. Whilst job sharing arrangements may be initiated by employees it must be approved by the relevant People Manager and a HR representative before the arrangement commences.

The success of a job sharing arrangement depends upon good planning and a commitment by the employees involved.

Learning and development

Asciano leadership developmentTo support our strategic vision to recognise growth through integrated solutions for our customers, we must raise the bar on performance and capability. A clear lever in realising this vision is the strength of our leaders at all levels of the organisation. We are working to ensure our leaders have the right skills, tools and behaviours to lead our people, whilst ensuring we are building bench strength for the future.

The Leadership Development Framework is designed to support leaders at all levels in all divisions. Our Leadership Development Framework is defined through our leadership development competencies and underpinned by our values.

Underpinning Asciano’s Leadership Development Framework are three core programs:

• Leading at the Front Line

• Emerging Leaders

• Executive Development Program

To find out more about these leadership programs as well as your career development at Asciano please visit the Junction > People & Learning > Employee Toolbox > Learning & Development.

Asciano’s mentoring programHaving a mentor can be one of the most powerful developmental relationships a person will experience. Mentoring undoubtedly taps into a basic human instinct most people share – the desire to pass on their learning to help other people develop and fulfil their potential.

At Asciano we facilitate a structured, company wide mentoring program which provides our people with a working environment where they can learn, grow and achieve their career goals. Through the mentoring program mentees can draw on the experience and knowledge of more experienced colleagues. It also gives mentors an opportunity to continue to develop their leadership skills, enhance their network and profile and to share their experience and success stories.

Our structured mentoring program has numerous benefits; it provides avenues for our people to develop and grow; to have clarity around their career aspirations; and to engage our people in our business. It also supports our culture and values.

For further information regarding program objectives, support tools and Divisional contacts please visit the Junction > People & Learning > Employee Toolbox > Mentoring.
