CODING CLUB By popular demand, the Coding Club will continue this year for students in Years 4 to 6, initially on a Tuesday and Wednesday at lunchtime. Mrs Jones is looking forward to working with all of our interested students. HEALTH AND SAFETY OF OUR STUDENTS This week we will be sending home the Emergency Contact Information recorded on our database. Please correct the information by crossing out any incorrect phone numbers, etc. All forms need to be returned to the office. Time to time on the playground accidents do happen, a collision between two people playing soccer or a trip to the ground and we need to seek medical assistance by calling an ambulance. This is normal practice and is a conse-quence of having 300 students running and playing in our amazing grounds. Schools are generally given priority over other calls with sometimes two ambulances attending. When we do this, every attempt will be made to contact you by mobile phone keeping you up to date with what is happening and if you are unable to make it to school, a staff mem-ber will accompany your child in the ambulance. The costs for the ambulance are covered and the invoice may be given to the office for the Department to process. ATTENDANCE As we all lead busy lives and following up notes may not be a priority, I need to remind you about this regularly. Each Thursday, absences without explanation for the previous 7 to 14 day will need to be followed up and a letter will be sent home. Please record on the letter the reasons for any unexplained absences. Sickness, medical or paramedical appointments will be accepted but any absence due to holidaying, no matter how small, requires Principal permis-sion. A form is found on the website. School is important and 100% attendance from 9:00am-3:00pm each day of the school year is our aim. Students who fall below the 90% attendance rate have a higher risk of missing out on essen-tial learning. Belinda Zorian Principal [email protected]

Is Your Child Ready To Write the Song That Stops The Nation?

The 2019 Music: Count Us In Songwriting Competition is now open! All students with a passion for songwriting are encouraged to apply. Music Australia is currently inviting students to submit their original songs for the 2019 National Songwriting Competition. Finalists from this competition will be selected to take part in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, to write the song that will be sung by hundreds of thousands of young Australians as part of Celebration Day on Thursday 7 November, 2019. Participation in the competition is a great way to kick off the school year with a creative project. About the Music: Count Us In National Songwriting Competition Students are invited to submit a song they have written for the chance to participate in a one day songwriting workshop (travel and accommodation provided). They will work in collaboration with each other, Program Ambassador John Foreman OAM and our 2019 Program Mentor to craft the 2019 Program Song for Music: Count Us In. Past MCUI Program Mentors have included the likes of Marcia Hines, Jay Laga’aia, Taylor Henderson and Justine Clarke. Music Australia are looking for entries that celebrate music in the lives of young Australian people, with melodies and lyrics that are fun, uplifting and easy to learn. The competition closes on Sunday 17 March, so students still have first part of Term 1 to write and submit their entries. Our expert panel will judge the entries then four lucky students will be selected to join John Foreman and our celebrity mentor to compose the final song. This is a once in a lifetime experience for a young musician! To apply, students must write to the song brief and submit their entries online. Encourage your child to watch last year's songwriting workshop for inspiration. Entries for the MCUI Songwriting Competition close 10pm, Sunday 17 March, 2019. Students can fill out the entry form here. For more information on the MCUI Songwriting Competition, head to their website.

Bonding with Buddies How exciting! Kindergarten and their Year 5/6M buddies met last Friday. The room bubbled with excited voices as the Kindergarten children spoke with their buddies, shared stories and then ate lunch together. The incredible maturity of the Year 5/6 students has been remarkable. They have been helping their little buddies to forge friendships in the playground and supporting them with all the new ‘big school’ things that exist in their new environment. KID and their buddies will be in next week’s newsletter. Mrs Green KG
