King Aleksandar I Karadjordjevic envisaged that his threesons would require their own private accommodation whenthey would become of age. The assassination of HM KingAleksandar I in 1934 in Marseille separated the king from hisfamily, causing the destiny of his sons to take a different turn. The young King Petar II became the new master of the Dedinje complex and continued to reside in The Royal Palacewith his mother HM Queen Marija and his two brothers. The completion of The White Palace was supervised by KingPetar II great uncle HRH Prince Regent Pavle.

The White Palace took almost four years to finish (1934-1937)and it became the official residence of HRH Prince RegentPavle and his family in waiting for King Petar II majority.

The palace was designed by architect Aleksandar Djordjevic,in a neo-Palladian manner inspired by the 18th century English houses such as Ditchley Park. Its interior was decorated with English Georgian and 19th century Russianantiques by the French design firm Maison Jansen, whichlater decorated the White House during the administration ofJohn F. Kennedy.

The ground floor of this classicistic palace houses a largehall and a number of drawing rooms furnished in the style ofLouis XV and Louis XVI with large Venetian chandeliers.

There is also a library and a formal Chippendale dining room. The first floor apartments are reached by stairs and a Galleryoverlooking the Hall. The attic has further rooms and anotherlibrary.

Beli Dvor's has a large collection of important works of artincluding paintings by Piero di Cosimo, Biagio d'Antonio, three works by Nicolas Poussin Giovanni Cariani, SébastienBourdon, Albrecht Altdorfer, Titian, Rembrandt (two attribu-tions), two paintings by Palma Vecchio, Carlo Caliari, PetarPaul Rubens, Simon Vouet, two paintings by Brueghel, Antonio Canaletto, Eugène Delacroix, Jean-BaptisteCarpeaux, Giuseppe Crespi, Nicolae Grigorescu, Franz XaverWinterhalter, Eugène Fromentin, Gaspard Dughet, Richard
