Jedan od najstarijih delova Beograda, prviizgraen van zidina Beogradske tvrave, iprvi sa kojim se posetioci susreu buduida je lociran pored eleznike i autobuske

stanice, nekada je vaio za centarBeograda. Nakon izmetanja etakezone u Knez Mihailovu ulicu, Savamaladugo ostaje industrijska etvrt, da bidecenijama kasnije bila transformisanau jedan od najpopularnijih kvartovaBeograda, urbanu dizajnersku etvrt.

Naziv Savamala potie od imena reke Save uzkoju je smetena i turske rei mahala kojaznai naselje ili malo mesto.

One of the oldest parts of Belgrade,the first to be built outside the walls ofBelgrade Fortress and the first that mostvisitors encounter as itis located next to the train and busstation, Savamala was also once the centerof the city. After the pedestrian zonewas moved to Knez Mihailova Street,Savamala lingered as an industrial district.Decades later it wastransformed into one of the mostpopular parts of Belgrade,and is now known as an urban

design neighborhood.

Savamalas name comes from the river Sava andthe Turkish word "mahala", which means settle-ment or a small town.

Zasluga Luke eloviaZa stvaranje Savamale zasluan je veliki srpskidobrotvor i trgovac, Luka elovi, koji je od neu-glednog i siromanog podruja pored reke uinioda danas gotovo svaka zgrada bude sp omenik kul-ture. Njegova najvea zaostavtina je Karaorevaulica.

Zgrada GeozavodaIzraena u duhu eklekticizma sa naglaenim ele-mentima neobaroka i secesije izmeu 1905. i 1907.godine, zgrada Geolokog zavoda spada u red an-tologijskih primera savremene srpske arhitekture.Danas je zakonom zatieni spomenik kulture.

Hotel BristolSgren je 1912. godine, u duhu klsicizm,ko zgrd osigurvjueg i kreditnog drutvBeogrdske zdruge. Za vreme odravanja svetskogkongresa bankara i finansijskih stunjaka, Beogradje posetio i pripadnik uvene porodice Rokfeler,zbog kog je hotel i renoviran.

Brankov mostDecembra 1934. godine puten je u saobraaj Mostkralja Aleksandra, koji su Beograani z vali Savskimost ili Most u Brankovoj ulici. Mnogi smatra-ju da nosi ime Branka opia koji je sebi okonaoivot skokom sa ovog mosta, ali zapravo nosi imepesnika Branka Radievia po kome je imenovanai Brankova ulica.

Luka elovis merite great Serbian philanthropist and merchantLuka elovi was responsible for creating Savama-la. He transformed the formerly unattractive andpoor areas by the river into todays buildings, whichare almost all monuments to culture. His greatestlegacy is Karaoreva Street.

Geozavod buildingConstructed between in 1905 and in 1907 in the spiritof eclecticism with prominent elements of Baroque andArt Nouveau, the building of the Geological Institute isone of the anthological examples of contemporary Ser-bian architecture, and today it is a protected monument.

Hotel BristolBuilt in 1912 in the spirit of classicism, the buildingwas originally the home of the insurance and CreditCooperative Society of Belgrade. During the WorldCongress of Bankers and Financial Experts, Belgradewas visited by a member of the famous Rockefellerfamily, thanks to whom the hotel was renovated.

Brankos bridge"e Bridge of King Alexander" was put into opera-tion in December 1934. Belgraders call it "e SavaBridge" or "e Bridge of Brankova Street." Manybelieve that it is named after Branko opi, who en-ded his life by jumping from the bridge, but it andthe street are actually named after the poet BrankoRadicevi.

Recite nam neto o sebi.Poslovi kojima sam se do sada bavila su podra-zumevali dosta putovanja, a kao PredsedavajuaUpravnog odbora Nemake turistike zajednice,obilazim ceo svet, upoznajem se sa zemljama u ko-jima imamo kancelarije i njihovim ljudima, obia-jima i kulturom. Moram priznati da su mi Srbija iBeograd neke od omiljenih destinacija, i to ne samoto se posla tie, ve i priv atno.Kao putniku, ta Vam se dopada u Beogradu?Beograd, po mom miljenju, spada u tri najboljeposlovne destinacije (druge dve su Frankfurt i Lon-don). Razlog tome su odlini smetajni kapacitetikojih u poslednje vreme za poslovne putnike imasve vie, male udaljenosti izmeu lokacija, i onajkarakteristini duh Beograda koji putnika odmahprihvati. Privatno, Beograd mi se dopada jer gapoznajem jo iz detinjstva, a njegovi prijateljski ras-poloeni ljudi me oduevljavaju. Prole godine samleto provela u Beogradu, i uprkos visokim tempera-turama, istraivala sam skrivene kutke, etala ulica-ma i uivala u hrani. Poslednji put sam u Beograddola krsterei Dunavom, rekom koja spaja 10 ze-malja, i moram priznati da je ovo zaista izvanrednoiskustvo.ta biste preporuili posetiocima?Kad god da se naete u Beogradu, odvojte vreme dagrad upoznate i kroz njegovu kulturu, obiite nekeod galerija i dozvolite sebi onu otvorenost u razmi-ljaju koju ljudi sa ovih prostora imaju.

Please tell us something about yourself.Many of the jobs I have had involved a lot of trave-ling, and now as the director the German NationalTourist Board, I travel around the world, getting toknow the regions and countries where we have offi-ces, as well as their people, traditions and cultures.I have to admit that Serbia and Belgrade are amongmy favorite destinations, not only for work, but alsofor pleasure.As a traveller, what do you like about Belgrade?In my opinion, Belgrade is one of three best businessdestinations I regularly visit, with the other two beingFrankfurt and London. is is due to the citys exce-llent accommodation facilities for business travelers,which have lately seen a large increase in capacity,the small distances between locations, and that cha-racteristic spirit of Belgrade that immediately makestravelers feel welcome. Privately, I have known Bel-grade since childhood and I love its friendly people.Last year I spent the summer in in the city, and des-pite the high temperatures explored every corner ofthe city, walking the streets and enjoying the food.e last time I visited Belgrade was during a cruiseon the Danube, the river that connects 10 countri-es, and I must admit that this is a truly extraordinaryexperience.

What are your recommendations for visitors?Whenever you are in Belgrade take some time toget to know the city through its culture, visit someof its many galleries and allow yourself to be asopen-minded as the local people are.

Beogradska tvrava /Belgrade fortressBeogradska tvrava podignuta je na grebenu iznadua Save u Dunav u razdoblju od 1. do 18. vekakao kompleks odbrambenog karaktera. Celinu inesama tvrava, podeljena na Gornji grad (Despotovakapija, Sahat kula, Rimski bunar, Statua pobednika),Donji grad (Kula Neboja, Amam tursko kupatilo,Kapija Karla VI) i park Kalemegdan. Na Kalemegda-nu se nalazi i Beogardski zooloki vrt, odnosno Vrtdobre nade, koji obu-hvata povrinu od okoest hektara, a moe se

videti 200 ivotinjskihvrsta.Belgrade Fortress was

built for defensivepurposes on a ridgeoverlooking the con-fluence of the Sava andDanube rivers in manyphases between the1st to 18th centuries.e complex consists of the main Fortress, whichis divided into the Upper Town (including DespotsGate, Clock Tower, Roman well, Victory Monu-ment) and the Lower Town (Nebojas Tower, Turk-ish Baths, the Gate of Carl VI), and KalemegdanPark. Belgrade Zoo, also known as the Garden ofGood Hope, is located at Kalemegdan Park, cover-ing an area of about six hectares and it is home toabout 200 animal species.
