The Joint Action Committee (JAC) has given call to conduct lunch hour demonstrations on

14-06-2010 and dharnas on 16-06-2010. It is unfortunate that NFTE BSNL and NUBSNLW

(FNTO) have decided not to participate in these programme. The reason they give is that,

they are not intimated about the holding of JAC meeting on 09-06-2010. I am sorry to

state that this is not correct. The fact is as follows.

Certain serious developments are taking place in BSNL. In the matter of equipment

procurement, merger of 78.2% IDA etc., the assurances given by the Honble MOC are

being violated. Further, immediately after the 3G spectrum auctioning is over, BSNL has

hurriedly paid to the government Rs. 10,700 as spectrum charge. BSNL had no reason to

pay such a huge amount, since, it has not participated in the bidding. It has every reason

to claim for a waiver / concession. Management cannot be allowed to throw away BSNLs

    cash reserve in such a reckless manner.I f m m d y d

    , again

management may pay around Rs. 9000 crore towards Broadband Wireless Access (BWA)spectrum charges, for which bidding has concluded. After this, BSNLs pocket will become

    empty.

When I met Com. G.L. Jogi GS, AIBSNLEA and Com. Prahlad Rai, GS, AIBSNLEA in the BSNL

Corporate Office on 08-06-2010, I discussed all these with them. Every one of us felt that

some thing has to be done immediately. Hence, we consulted Com. V.A.N. Namboodiri,

Convenor of JAC. He suggested that the meeting of the JAC could be held on the next day

itself, i.e., on 09-06-2010. The meeting was fixed on 09-06-2010 itself because Com.

V.A.N. Namboodiri was going out of Delhi on 10-06-2010 and will be returning only on 18-

06-2010. There is no use in holding the meeting after 18-06-2010, as the issues are very

    serious as well as emergent.

Com. V.A.N. Namboodiri, Convenor, JAC, intimated the constituents of the JAC about the

meeting through SMS. This is the normal practice. So far none has complained about this

procedure. However, it is surprising that NFTE BSNL and NUBSNLW (FNTO) say that they

did not receive the intimation. Many leaders of the JAC, including myself, have spoken to

the leaders of the BSNL Workers Alliance and have explained the position. I once again

appeal to them to participate in the 14th

    and 16th

    June programme, since sending a

message to the BSNL management and to the government at this point of time is crucial.

Differences among the constituents could be discussed and sorted out immediately after

    this programme.
