Becoming Fluent in Information Technology: CSE 3 Fall 2009 Abdur Rahman Amin Overview CSE 3, Fluency in Information Technology is a class that teaches novices, like myself, to understand the basics of computers more importantly trains us to become “FIT” or fluent in Information technology. Below, a sample of what I learned could be seen. Algorithmic Thinking and Programming In this CSE class, we were introduced to a very important concept overall in almost any computer class: algorithmic thinking. This is the basis or foundation that any programmer needs when they are developing or writing a program. We were able to learn this visually using the very interactive Scratch Program. Here we learned hands on what it really takes to think algorithmically. Interpreting, Analyzing, and Representing Data In CSE, we also learned how to analyze data using Excel. We learned how represent it using graphs and how to present it using MS PowerPoint. This a very important skill not just for being FIT, but also for being a successful student here at UC San Diego. Fluency in various MS Office processors Becoming Fluent in MS Office As with any FIT student, it is necessary to be familiar and comfortable with a variety of programs and softwares. We were able to do this by leering and becoming “experts” in MS Office, Excel, and PowerPoint. Furthermore, we were able to practice in real life what it takes to become operationally attuned. HTML Communication is a very information aspect of modern information technology. That is why IT is so powerful. Therefore, we learned how to share information by learning HTML and spreading it to the rest of the world. Photoshop One the funniest things we learned was Photoshop. Here is sample of some of the things we made in Photoshop. Conclusion and Thanks Overall, we learned a lot of new stuff in CSE 3. I truly enjoyed my experience and I know what I learned in this class will help me in the future. Thanks for a great fall class experience to Professor Kube and the Tas.

Overview

CSE 3, Fluency in Information Technology is a class that teaches novices, like myself, to understand the basics of computers more importantly trains us to become “FIT” or fluent in Information technology. Below, a sample of what I learned could be seen.

Algorithmic Thinking and Programming

In this CSE class, we were introduced to a very important concept overall in almost any computer class: algorithmic thinking. This is the basis or foundation that any programmer needs when they are developing or writing a program. We were able to learn this visually using the very interactive Scratch Program. Here we learned hands on what it really takes to think algorithmically.

Interpreting, Analyzing, and Representing Data

In CSE, we also learned how to analyze data using Excel. We learned how represent it using graphs and how to present it using MS PowerPoint. This a very important skill not just for being FIT, but also for being a successful student here at UC San Diego.

Fluency in various MS Office processors

Becoming Fluent in MS Office

As with any FIT student, it is necessary to be familiar and comfortable with a variety of programs and softwares. We were able to do this by leering and becoming “experts” in MS Office, Excel, and PowerPoint.Furthermore, we were able to practice in real life what it takes to become operationally attuned.

HTML

Communication is a very information aspect of modern information technology. That is why IT is so powerful. Therefore, we learned how to share information by learning HTML and spreading it to the rest of the world.

Photoshop

One the funniest things we learned was Photoshop. Here is sample of some of the things we made in Photoshop.

Conclusion and Thanks

Overall, we learned a lot of new stuff in CSE 3. I truly enjoyed my experience and I know what I learned in this class will help me in the future. Thanks for a great fall class experience to Professor Kube and the Tas.
