    April Volume 2016

other considerations such as disabilityaccess, and the behaviour patterns ofboth drivers and pedestrians.

Further research is obviously requiredto balance all these elements, and allgroups involved in the Road Safety Work-shop will continue to work together toimplement the appropriate measures toimprove road safety in this community.

BeCA and our community has been

assured we will be kept informed by bothStockland and Sunshine Coast Council onfurther developments.

Thank you to Mark McArdle MP Member for Caloundra for printing BeCA’s newsletters.

come overgrown.  Recently a Bells Reachresident discovered that a reptile familyhad set up home in the local biopod andhas since had the reptile family re-moved.  This is of concern especiallywhere young children may be involved.

A Council sub contractor is employed tomaintain the biopods in Bellvista.  Cur-rently Stockland maintain the biopods inBells Reach.

BeCA is urgently seeking its meetingwith the local Parks and Gardens Supervi-sor.  Previously BeCA had regular meet-ings with the then Council Parks and Gar-dens supervisor.  However the replace-ment supervisor has been much moredicult to tie down.  BeCA will continueto press for a meeting and improve com-munication channels.

Remember to set up your SunshineCoast Council ‘My Council’ account on theinternet(https:mycouncil.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/mycouncil) Complete registration, and you will have

excellent access to “Service Requests”where you can quickly request potholesto be xed, broken tree limbs to be re-moved, trees overhanging roadways etcplus concerns you have with local parkingor other local ByLaws issues.

There was lengthy discussion with Cr

    Baberowski regarding discussions BeCA

recently had with local MP Mark McArdle

and the State Government Minister for

Main Roads, Mark Bailey.  BeCA is after a

new link road to be constructed betweenBellvista Blvd and Pelican Waters

Blvd.  Now it seems BeCA’s major focus

will be to get a commitment on a feasibil-

ity study for the new road.  The feasibility

study would address costings, more de-

tailed planning, access to sensitive envi-

ronmental areas and the creation of a

    road reserve.

BeCA is hoping to meet again with rep-

resentatives of the Golden Beach Pro-

    gress Association and Sunshine Coast

Rate Payers for a further commitment to

    April ManagementCommittee Meeting

The BeCA Management CommitteeMeeting held early in April was very mucha ‘housekeeping’ meeting.  BeCA wel-comed the recently returned Cr Babe-

rowski to the meeting. Of major concernwere reports from several residents re-garding speeding cars around the estates, following an earlier issue raised at the re-cent Public Meeting regarding speedingcars on O’Reilly Drive.

BeCA contacted local police.  Severaldays later a police car was able to nab acouple of speedsters and they were nedaccordingly. BeCA has now requested thatpolice presence be increased not onlyalong O’Reilly Drive but also on Indigo Rd/

Bells Reach Drive in Bells Reach and nearthe Tavern around 10pm.

BeCA had earlier passed on its concernsto local police regarding behaviour aroundand in the underground carpark atBellvista Market Place.  Following BeCA’srequests we can now report the behaviourin question has stopped.

As Stockland begins to increase its activ-ity in Aura and winds down its presence inBells Reach, the Community Garden is af-ter an increased interest from local resi-

    dents.

An independent managementgroup will be required to take over therunning of the garden.  If you are willing tobecome involved, contact Hannah Wil-liams via the Bells Reach Sales Oce.

The Bells Reach Facebook page is anoth-er project which Stockland is looking foranother group to take on board.

Biopods do a great job in helping tocleanse storm water before it enters localwaterways and eventually the Pum-icestone Passage.  If you have a biopodjust outside your home take a few minutesto ensure it is tidy and that it hasn’t be-

    Continued:

    pressing for a feasibility study.

BeCA also welcomed 6 new members

    to the Association.

    BeCA meets with Minister for

    Main Roads

    The State Government Minister For

Main Roads, Mark Bailey visited the Sun-

shine Coast on Thursday March 31st, to

    make announcements on future intersec-

tion upgrades around the new Sunshine

    Coast University Hospital.

He was also present at the announce-

ment of the opening of the Cooroy Bruce

    Highway Bypass that morning.

During his visit he found time for a 30

    minute chat with representatives from

BeCA to discuss Caloundra Road and oth-er trac issues around our area.

It appears the rst priority for the

Government and Council is to explore al-

    ternative routes into Caloundra away

from the Nicklin Way/Caloundra Rd round-

about and Bowman Road and thus lighten

    trac along Caloundra Road.

The Department of Main Roads was

working closely with the Sunshine Coast

Council to plan, upgrade and build a varie-

ty of strategies and road improvements totry to lighten the trac using the major

    roundabout.

The map (right) shows several of the

ideas currently on the planning board and

in full discussion between the Department

of Main Roads and the Sunshine Coast

    Council.

At this stage the new east west corridor

link (from Pelican Waters Blvd across to

Bellvista Blvd and the Bells Creek Arterial)

was seen as proposal for consideration inover 12 years time, rather than sometime

    in the immediate future.

BeCA was keen to see planning and

building of this link road, get underway as

a matter of urgency.  BeCA believes this

should be seen as a longer term solution to

solve trac issues along Caloundra Rd.

BeCA argued that two new schools to

come online just south of Arbour in the

new Caloundra South by the beginning of

2018 and a rapidly growing community in

Caloundra South will continue to create a

major concern for trac on Bellvista Blvd.

This argument was countered by saying

the new second entry/exit road along the

soon to be completed Bells Creek Arterial

would take much of this trac.

    However BeCA remains unconvinced that

the new Bells Creek Arterial Stage 1 will be

the solution to many of our trac woes,

and that many parents and residents will

continue to use Bellvista Blvd to drive

children to and from school and visit

    Caloundra or Brisbane.

    BeCA Management Committee

Member and owner of the Positive Prop-

erty People Real Estate Agency, Lani

Cooper, suggested as many as 40% of our

local residents commute daily to Brisbane

    to work.

There was a great exchange of ideas

between residents, planners and the Min-

ister on a range of issues. Minister Bailey

thanked the residents for the frank ex-

change of ideas and went away from the

meeting with a deeper understanding of

    the issues involved.

It isn’t often that a small Community

Group can have such a wonderful oppor-

tunity to openly discuss issues with the

    person holding the purse strings!

Councillor Rick BabrowskiReturned for another 3 years.

Cr Rick Baberowski has been returned toact as our Division 1 Councillor followingthe recent Council elections.

Cr Baberowski got a substantial vote ofcondence at the polls, which allowed thevote counters to concentrate on our otherCouncil Divisions where the voting wasmuch closer. Ricks win was signicant forour community, as he’s always very ap-proachable and conscious of our issues.

BeCA welcomes the opportunity to keep

working with Rick for the betterment of allBellvista and Bells Reach residents.
