A lot has happened since the last Beaver Tales issue. Don-na and I have attended six Regional Rallies in addition to the International Rally in Hamburg, NY. We visited John Wayne's birthplace, saw historic Door County in Wiscon-

sin, shopped at the world's largest Christmas store in Frankenmuth, MI, enjoyed Amish Country in Ohio, stayed after the International Rally to see more of Buffalo and finished up touring several distill-eries in Kentucky and Arkansas. Our thanks to the Rally Masters and Co-Rally Masters who showed us a great time at all of the activities.

The International Rally in Ham-burg NY was attended by 37 member coaches and four members without coaches. There were five first timers. It featured some great entertainment and good food. Rally Masters Tom and Joanne Fadale along with Co-Rally Masters Roy and Carol Mueller did a fantastic job.

Along part of our travels, we followed a journey that one of my an-cestors (we have the original day by day diary) traveled in a covered wagon in 1878 on their way from Indiana to a new beginning in Kan-sas. Their trip took them through Winterset, Iowa where the Bridges of Madison County rally was held. If they had waited two years, they could have crossed one of these bridges instead of fording the river. We covered 387 miles (from PawPaw, Illinois to Bedford, Iowa) of the 1137 miles they traveled. It took about 8 hours in our covered wagon as opposed to the 16 days they traveled the same 387 miles.

Several things were accomplished at the Board of Directors meeting. The Board of Directors meeting is held at 9:00 AM the day before the International Rally starts. We had numerous guests at the meeting and hopefully will have more at the next International in Farmington, NM next August, since the rally will include two days early arrival at no extra cost to the members.

Sign up for the Farmington Pow Wow soon. Rally Masters Roy and Vicki Warren are planning a great rally, highlighted with great enter-tainment and a variety of food as well as seminars. We look forward to this rally along with the many rallies scheduled next year.

Please see the notice of nominations and elections elsewhere in this issue. This year we have three candidates for the position of Presi-dent, so your vote is important.

Happy Fall, Everyone! Hope you all had a terrific summer traveling and having fun driving your coaches around the country and abroad!

Welcome New Members! I hope you are having a fun journey so far and having a great experience attending your first rallies for some of you. Way to go, you joined a great club and are getting involved right away! I guarantee you are heading the right direction. Continue to at-tend our great rallies, and those who have yet to attend their first rally, please do so and join the fun!

I now have 6 months under my belt as Membership Director, and I am still enjoying my role because of the wonderful folks I have met through the processing of new members. It’s great to establish friendship right at the beginning because I am a voice for this great club we belong to.

Stay tuned for future regional get togethers in your area as they are a lot of fun and small, so you are able to meet everyone on a personal basis. Please get in touch with your Regional VP or Director if you have any questions.

If you have any changes to be made to your records (change of ad-dress, phone numbers, email address, etc.), please feel free to fill out an Update Member Information form on our website: beaveramb.org under Member Services, or get in touch with me, and I will be happy to change your information for you.

Attrition has been cyclical. We have a total of 910 active member coaches. I approved 38 new member coaches from August to October; however, we lost 52 member coaches due to selling their RVs, medi-cal situations, non-dues renewal with FMCA or BAC, etc. Loss of 29 members in September was a record high. Welcome back to 4 cou-ples who have been gone for a while and were reinstated. We need to concentrate on recruiting prospective Beaver folks by using our door hangers and brochures while at RV parks or while on the road, ex-plaining the benefits of belonging to BAC. Thank you in advance; ap-preciate it if you all take part in recruiting new members.

Remember to register on the Forum, if you haven’t already, as you will find helpful hints how to repair and maintain your coaches, items or coaches for sale, and/or for general information. It is a great commu-nication tool to present concerns or problems with your coaches. We have lots of knowledgeable members who have expertise with Beavers, who will give you excellent advice on your situation.

Lastly, we have some great rallies finishing up the year and many ral-lies upcoming in the new year, so please read the Beaver Tales from cover to cover to select the rallies that may suit your interest and fits into your travel plans. Send in your coupon and deposit to save your spot right away because they are filling up fast! These rallies are well organized; they are fun and above all, you will meet the most friendly Beaver members around!

Take care, and since our holidays are fast approaching; have a wonder-ful and joyous holiday season with family and friends. Until next time, hope to see you down the road, and safe travels to your next destina-tion.

If you have any questions, please contact me directly:at [email protected].

WOW! Where have the last two years gone? And before that, go back to lunch one time with Bill Sprague and

Jerry Carr offering to buy lunch if I would con-sider being Director for Region 1 under Jerry. They explained what a Director does so I agreed and they bought lunch. I don’t think I fully grasped at the time that this would lead into be-ing a Regional Vice President, but here we are and I have some huge shoes to fill. I have to say that Jerry has been a great help in getting me up to speed on this position and help with ral-lies, budgets and everything involved with put-ting on a rally. Also I must give a shout out to Bill Sprague as well, a wealth of knowledge in all things Beaver, especially Monterey.

There are so many great people in this club, (there are more than 200 coaches in Region 1!), and we have met some great new friends, which is why I would encourage anyone who has not attended a rally yet to sign up and see what you’ve been missing!. You meet the nicest people at a Beaver rally! (I think that was an ad-vertising slogan for Chevrolet once.)

Speaking of rallies, the coming year, 2018 was shaping up to be a pretty lean year for our region because the International rallies were being held on the East coast but that has changed some. We now have some great events planned for our re-gion. In June, there is a rally at Ft. Flagler State Park, hosted by Keith & Carol Moffett, first time rally masters. Way to go Keith & Carol, Thank you! This will be from June 4-June 8, 2018. I believe there are about 12 or more coaches as of mid-October so if you are interested in going to this rally, get in touch with Keith or Carol. Then get on the Washington State Parks web page and check to see if there are any spots left. You will have to make and pay for your reserva-tion at that time and then send in your rally cou-pon. It’s a low cost, relaxing rally at a really nice park on the water. There will also be some great cookouts there, as Bill & BJ Sprague are bringing their camp cook trailer! Next up is the Welcome Home to Bend rally at the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center in Redmond, OR, July 10-13, 2018. The 14th will be an optional day to stay and attend the open house and dinner at Beaver Coach Sales. This rally will be hosted by other

first time rally masters, Ty & Jodie Kelly, from Beaver Coach Sales & Service. Thanks to them as well, this will be a great rally. It has a 50 coach limit but as of right now, there are only 14 spots left, so get your rally coupon in soon. There are a lot of great activities planned and you could even get a new(er) Beaver while you are there! This is the birthplace of our coaches after all!

Then the whole month of August, the Pylars in Region 4 are doing one rally after another culmi-nating in a Rolling To Farmington Rally where they end up at the International Rally for 2018 in Farmington, New Mexico, Aug 29-Sept.4. Roy & Vicki Warren have a great International rally planned for Farmington. If you are plan-ning to attend the International rally, which I would strongly encourage all to do, this rolling rally, August 21-26 would be a great one to do.

Back to Region 1, toward the end of September, the 17th-21st will be the Washington Wine Coun-try Tour rally hosted by Dick & Jan McQuillan in Prosser, Washington. Cost of this rally is $100 and you take care of the camping fees which are $160 for a 55’ pull through and $185 for a 70’ site. Co-Rally masters Bill & BJ Sprague, camping chefs extraordinaire will be providing some awe-some meals so bring your appetite!

We hosted our first two rallies in Region 1. The first was held in Astoria, OR in May with 14 coaches, and the second was in Anaacortes, WA in September with 16 coaches. We had a fun time, with lots of activities for our attendees. I would like to thank Bill & Barbara Dowden, our Co-Rally Masters at Astoria, and Bill & Donna Kopacz , our Co-Rally Masters at Anacortes for an awesome job, we couldn’t have pulled it off without you! Bill Kopacz is director for Region 1 for this term and I am sure he is going to do a great job. And mostly, to the members who attended these rallies, you all made it a success and it was wonderful to meet some new friends. I also have to thank Ty & Jodie Kelly from Beaver Coach Sales & Service who provided the wine for our socials, donated the rally bags and graced us with their presence. They do so much for our club and we are lucky to have them as members.

We will be in Happy Trails in Surprise from De-cember through March so we hope to see some of you there at our monthly pot-luck dinners and at some of our rallies planned for 2018. Safe travels and keep the shiny side up!

A relaxing a la carte visit to Washington’s famed Yakama Valley. While the valley is often recognized for its vineyards and wineries, we will also have the opportunity to visit the area breweries, cideries and distilleries. If it’s fresh fruits and vegetables you find of interest, then a side trip to one of the many nearby farms or orchards should be on your schedule. The Manhattan Project Hanford site tour offers a rare opportunity to learn how the Yakama Valley played a critical role in our WWII victory. A short 30-minute drive north of Prosser is the small town of Toppenish known for their murals por-traying life in the old west. We have organized this rally so that you can pick and choose from the plethora of opportunities to satisfy your interests.

South West VP'sReport Alan Scott

Greetings fellow Beavers,

As most of you probably already know, I was recently elected as Vice President of Region 2, previously held by John Shurtz. I must admit, when John first approached me about becoming his Di-rector two years ago, I wasn’t sure about it, but he twisted my arm and I succumbed. Then the thought of becoming Vice President was also concerning. But here I am and I thank John for his leadership, guidance and encouragement in getting me to this point. My Director is Bob Blair, and I hope that I can provide the same leadership, guidance and sup-port during our two years together.

This is my first attempt at a newsletter for our re-gion and I would like to take this opportunity to give those of you who don’t know me a little back-ground about me and my wife Carol. Carol and I have been RVing for about 40 years and actually started out in a 1978 Beaver Monterey, which at that time was a Class C. Then we bought a boat and as they say, the happiest time of boat owner-ship is when you buy one . . . and then when you sell one. We returned to RVing when we bought a 1992 Safari. Unfortunately there was no exhaust or PAC brake, so after many “white knuckle” trips, we bought a 1997 Safari with a PAC break. Whew what a difference!! We continued to at-tend RV shows as we always “lusted” after the Beaver brand and in 2004 we finally realized our dream and are the proud owners of a 2004 Pa-triot Thunder and shortly thereafter joined BAC. We have attended a good number of rallies given by both BAC and other RV groups, and have also hosted a number of RV rallies ourselves.

We were very disappointed to have missed the In-ternational Rally in New York, but some family health issues required us to stay close to home. I am sure that many of you understand the con-flicts between family obligations and “having fun.” Carol and I were able to get away for a week and had the amazing opportunity to view the eclipse at Mt. Hood, OR with one of the other RV clubs to which we belong.

I look forward to seeing many of our fellow Bea-ver friends and meeting new ones at our upcom-ing rallies. Before the end of this year we have two rallies scheduled in our region. First is our annual Christmas Rally (The Festival of the Hearts, A Danish Christmas) hosted by Bob and

Pam Blair in Buellton, CA. Bob and Pam always put on a great rally and we all should have a won-derful time. The other is one that has been on my personal bucket list for years, which is a rally at the annual Rose Parade being hosted by Tim and Diana Bentley. What a way to close out the year! And there is still room if you want to go.

Next year we have a few rallies currently sched-uled. Early in the year is the Viva Las Vegas Securi-ty Rally in Indio, CA complementing the FMCA Western Regional Rally. Join us at this rally, put on a blue security hat, and have a great time with your Beaver friends. Mandy’s lobster boil is al-ways a highlight of the rally. Following that is a rally, Rolling on the River, along the Colorado River in Laughlin, NV, a smaller version of Las Vegas, with lots of great activities planned. Then we have the Wonders of Yosemite rally, hosted by Carol and me. This will include a full day bus tour of all the incredible sites Yosemite has to of-fer and is your opportunity to cross Yosemite off your “bucket list”.

I would like to encourage others in our region to consider hosting a rally. Many of you have places that you have enjoyed that I’m sure would be of interest to other Beavers. Each of us has attended festivals, fairs, and annual events and those ideas often make for great rallies. There are many of us in the region who are willing to help and provide guidance and support. You will not regret the time spent, will have a great experience, and will make lifelong friends. I want to encourage anyone from Region 2 who may be interested in hosting or co-hosting a Rolling Rally from a location in California, Nevada or Hawaii (if they have that dang bridge built by then) to BAC’s International Rally (Farmington POW WOW - August 29-Sept 4, 2018) in New Mexico. Each Region needs to support the International Rallies and having a Rolling Rally is one of the best ways to get mem-bers from Point A to Point B to attend the festivi-ties. Having Co-hosted a Rolling Rally I can attest that it is great fun for all.

Carol and I plan on attending the rallies in our region, along with some in other regions, and will spend this winter with many of our Beaver friends at Happy Trails in Surprise, AZ. I encour-age all to join in the RV experience by attending and hosting rallies. I am ready to help in any way I can, please feel free to contact me with rally ideas and any other suggestions you may have for events in our region.

Until next time, safe travels. Alan

So glad to have had so many attend our Region 3 rallies enroute to the BAC International rally, "Shuffling Off to

Buffalo" in Hamburg. We and the Boles really enjoyed showing you our home re-gion and a part of the country that not ev-eryone explores due to those Great Lakes. They put up an obstacle that you need to go around, but it is also the very reason there is so much to see and do in the Great Lakes states. We really enjoyed Shuffling and learning about the Buffalo area and of course beautiful Niagara Falls.

With winter on its way, we continued from Buffalo to view the beautiful fall colors in Vermont and Maine. We always thought that the Midwest had gorgeous fall colors, but we both were blown away by the vari-ety and hill layers of turning fall leaves in the East. Donna Humble gave an awesome class in Buffalo on flower pressing and mak-ing cards. I made one and found a second wooden press and quickly filled them both with autumn leaves and flowers. I've got my winter project planned.

This coming year (2018) Region 3 has "Rushin' by Rushmore II" on July 11-14, 2018, just prior to the FMCA Internation-al Convention in Gillette, WY, July 18-21, 2018. "Rushin'" will be a great time around the campfire for meals and social time, with plenty of free time to see the area and the monuments. Not to mention a buffalo or 2. It's a beautiful region and so many things to see. You can then make it back after FMCA to have fun at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally Aug 3-12, 2018 (Sturgis, SD) even if you don't have a motorcycle.

If you stay in the area or are coming through South Dakota a NOT TO MISS event is the Crazy Horse Volksmarch the end of Sept 2018, coordinating with the Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup on Sept 28, 2018. Herdsmen on horseback from around the area and country come to round up the

1300 or so buffalo for their annual health checks. An awesome sight to see a heard of beautiful animals coming into the corrals all at once. Volksmarch is a 6.2 mile wooded walk up to the face of Crazy Horse for a mere $3 and a few cans of food. Beyond the Spring and Autumn Volksmarch, you can take the bus up part way and walk the rest for a mere $125. So we've done it twice for $3 and 3 cans.

Hoping you have safe travels and a wonder-ful winter, wherever you are, with a very Merry Christmas season. Lonna

What's New on the ForumGo to http://beaveramb.org/forum/ and see what solutions were proposed for these problems.

I think I have a bad sending unit for the Aladdin system. The oil pressure goes from 0 to 127 back and forth until it warms up a little. Of course I get the check engine light and warning.

I put my 2006 36 ft. 4 slide Monterey in storage earlier this week and switched off the batteries. I went back a couple of days later and found the drivers side bedroom slide out

I am the new owner of this coach and I am trying to be patient but now . . . I see a puddle under the coach that appears to be transmission fluid or possibly coolant.

We are looking to attend a rally where there is only 30 amp service available. In our previous coach, I could just open the breaker to one of the a/c compressors and the coach worked fine.

I went to use the starter switch on the Gen and found the light on switch did not light up, or when I tried to start the Gen, it did nothing like I had no battery.

I am thinking about changing out my trans-mission fluid and filters myself. I also need to change out my transmission cooler. I am confi-dent that I am able to do this but the problem is, not sure I feel safe underneath with only the air bags raising the coach.

All the literature I have says the water system can only be used or the tank filled by a pressure water system. Where/how do I "sanitize" my system?

I'm wondering what the inverter of choice is for a replacement.

We’ve replaced the ignition switch and the starter solenoid and once in a while we are going down the interstate and the engine quits the speed-ometer goes to zero and in 5 seconds it restarts itself. Any ideas?

Reminders for Rally Masters(and future Rally Masters) by Eileen Cooper

I (Eileen Cooper) am the Rally Support Manager, and I will process your requests for rally bars, first timer badg-es, and new dress badges to be handed out at your rally. Dress badges, formerly given as second timer badges, are now given at the end of the first rally attended. It is im-portant to make sure that the First Timer names on your roster are listed and spelled exactly as they want them on their badges. I will order your rally bars, bolo badges and dress badges and then the engraver will mail them out to you.  It is important for me to have the address where the order is to be sent, so I can pass this information on to the engraver when I place the order. Here is the information I need at least 30 days before each rally:• How many rally bars do you need? How many 1st

Timer badges? Do you have any 2nd Timers who did not receive a dress badge?

• Include an address where you want the order sent! • How do you want your rally bar worded? The limit

is two lines and 24 characters maximum allowed for each line including letters and spaces.

• Please let me know if you, the Rally Master, or your Co-Rally Masters are doing this for the first time.

• Send me two copies of your roster (see below) - one with your rally bar request and an updated copy at the end of your rally.

You, the Rally Master should create and maintain a rally roster that includes name, FMCA #, address, phone, cell phone, email address, and whether registrants are First Timers, Second Timers, FOBs, Beaver Guests, or BAC of-ficers. This is easiest to do in an Excel spreadsheet. (See the Rally Master Handbook for help.) Please send this roster to me, with your rally bar request, 30 days before your rally at [email protected] your rally is completed, please email me your up-dated roster and highlight any additional or cancelled at-tendees, or, if there is no change, please indicate. The Rally Report form is online in the Rally Masters Handbook. Your final roster and a completed copy of the Rally Report should be sent to your Regional VP, the President, and to the Treasurer (along with all the receipts for your rally expenses) within 60 days of the end of your rally. You will also send a check for the rally bars ($5 each) to the Treasurer, Roy Warren.Thank you.Eileen Cooper, Rally Support Manager

Hello members of Region 4. My name is Kathy Pylar, your new Vice President. Let me give you a quick “all about me”

introduction.

My husband, Rich, and I have been members of the BAC for ten years. We sold our home in Colorado and hit the road eleven years ago to begin full timing. We have a lot at Happy Trails in Surprise, AZ where we spend our winters. We have 3 children and 4 grandchildren. Two of our children reside in Colorado so we are there often to visit the grandkids. We have been to every state with the exception of Hawaii. Rich keeps telling me the coach won’t float so that state will have to stay on our bucket list. During the summer we enjoy attending rallies throughout the country. Judy Donaldson was selected as my Director for the next two years. Judy and her husband Gerald are also from Colorado. They currently reside in Tucson, AZ and have been BAC members for 7 years. Judy and I look forward to serving and representing the members of Region 4. Both of us are ready to answer any questions, concerns or suggestions you may have. Just send me an email. We will do our best to get you answers. We are always looking for volunteers to help with different club-related committees. If you would like to be added to the volunteer list, please send me an email. It is an excellent way to meet the club members and participate in club activities.

We just returned from the midwest and eastern rallies held this past summer. Starting with the FMCA rally in Indianapolis, IN where we attended the Beaver security rally. Rett Porter was elected to the position of National Senior Vice President of FMCA. Congratulations Rett! Rett is very active in our club having been past Region 4 Vice President and has served as BAC’s National Director.

We then attended the rally held in Frankenmuth, the Christmas capital of Michigan, and then went on to Amish country in Berlin, Ohio. We have seen and done more with this club than we ever could have on our own. Thank you rally masters for all the fun, food and activities we have enjoyed. It never ceases to amaze me the unique places and interesting foods we are introduced to at the rallies we have attended. Not to mention the extraordinary tours and experiences that some of us have endured. The quote “Get in the boat, Pylar” says it all. For an explanation of the quote, feel free to ask me next time you see me. We then continued on to the International rally in Hamburg, NY. The Fadales, Muellers, and Keck/Rogers team put on one great rally. Niagara Falls, the food, entertainment, the Olympics, and all the other activities were enjoyed by all. Oh, and my

son was just tickled with the kazoos we made and gave to our grandchildren. We stayed on for the second rally and visited Niagara Falls again and took a boat ride down the Erie Canal. The Fadales shared a couple of restaurants that kept our palates very happy. I encourage you to check out the BAC website and view the spectacular pictures. Thank you for another lasting memory courtesy of the BAC. Upstate New York has much to offer and we will be back. It was quite a journey from Arizona to Niagara Falls but worth the trip. Thank you rally team for your efforts. It certainly was appreciated. The corporate meeting was held at the rally and changes were made by the board. One change that was implemented was the cancellation of the International rally in Tallahassee, FL this spring. The club has decided to hold one International rally a year. Please read our President’s report in this edition of the Beaver Tales for more information on the meeting. If you would like to share your thoughts on International rallies and why attendance seems to be declining, please let me know. The club is always interested in our members thoughts and the board would be happy to hear from you and consider any suggestions you may have.

Moving forward to 2018: Region 4 is hosting nine rallies. Seven are in Colorado. They will take you throughout Colorado from Rocky Mountain National Park to a rolling rally that will end in Farmington, NM. This is the location for the International rally that is being hosted by the Warrens, Lands and Tills. I hear there are lots of surprises and fun coming our way. Don’t miss it. The Wolfgrams will be hosting a rally in Grand Junction after the festivities in Farmington. Of course, the “Balloons Are BAC(K)” rally in Albuquerque, NM will be held in October 2018. Check out Beaver Tales for more information on all of the rallies coming up in 2018 and send in your registrations.

It’s not too soon to be thinking about 2019. Lamar Keck and Karen Rogers and their team will be hosting their 6th Branson International Rally in Branson, MO. If you have never been to one of their Branson rallies, put it on your “to do” list. You will not be sorry. Nobody “knows” Branson like Lamar, “Don’t Cha’ Know.” If you have an interesting location that would be a great place for a lead in rally on the way to Branson let me know. We are always looking for fun stops along they way.

So folks it looks like we are off to a good start to give all the BAC members fun, food and friendship during the next couple of years. Check out the Beaver Tales and watch for our President’s monthly newsletter email for more rally and club information. Our club is one of the best clubs out there. As one of your officers, my goal is to listen to the members of this club and work towards keeping our club active and fun.

In closing I would like to wish each and every one of the BAC members a joyous and happy holiday season. Until next time…Kathy

Sponsors Combine to Create Amazing ProjectWe always knew that our sponsors were talented people, but check out this project designed and created by Jim Sizemore at RV Outfitters, Greg Fulton at Greg Fulton Fine Woodworking and Jeff Spear at Bend RV Repair. A customer came in and asked for a hidden gun cabinet. Jim and Greg designed the cabinet and Jeff figured out the actuators to lift it, and the result is amazing. You should go to http://www.rvoutfitters.net/ to see a video to get the full effect of the incredible work. The video also features our own Iris and Wally Schmidt. Be sure you watch it long enough to see the gun cabinet in action. All of these guys are multi-talented and can take care of any of your RV needs all at one spot at Boyd Acres Ventures.

Income for the fiscal year 2016-2017 shows about $6000 over es-timated in the Budget for the year. Approximately half the income increase was in dues received, split about 30% from new members,

50% from renewals, and 20% from new life members. Other income increased mainly due to the income we receive from Amazon. Rally income also showed an amount over estimated income due mainly to the BT Advertising income received from rallies held before the begin-ning of the fiscal year. Expenses overall basically matched estimated, with actual only $285 over-expenditure. On the Balance Sheet, the difference in overall Total Assets between FY2015-2016 and FY 2016-2017 is an approximate $6000 decrease, from $224,767.95 to $218,888.99. This is basically the difference be-tween the amount of International Rally reserves used and the income gained. It is a start toward the reduction in reserves which was pro-posed by the SPOT Finance team and approved by the BOD. Please remember to call Ron Jarvie at Overland Insurance for a quote on your insurance and to compare like policies. It is harder to get RV insurance now, so be sure to give him a call. He might be able to help you and reduce your outgo. Also, remember to go to the Amazon.com portal on the web page, beaveramb.org or the one located on the fo-rum. We do receive money from Amazon for all of our orders. Also, I would like each of you to call our sponsors and see if you can give them some of your business. If you know someone who is good in your area and especially if they are in Regions 2, 3, or 4 show them they might be the only sponsor in those areas. A great way to advertise at very little cost. Give them Diana Bentley’s number or contact her if you have a business interested in being a sponsor. Have a great year and attempt to attend one of the rallies in your area. Hope to see many of you at the Farmington, NM International Rally. It is being held over the Labor Day Weekend because that is when the Totah Festival (an Indian Nation Pow Wow) is scheduled. Vicki and the co-rally masters are doing their best to make sure you have a good time with good entertainment and lots to do. Farmington is located very near the Four Corners with easy access to numerous National Parks.

Oh the weather outside is frightful… so you know what that means, leaving Western New York for warmer weather.

We have had a very busy fall, hosting two rallies in Hamburg, New York. The first was “Shuffling Off To Buffalo”, the International rally. What a great time the members had. The rally started with the BAC Olympics; the competition was fierce. Congratulations to all the teams for their hardy participation. The “Frankfurters” at the Oktoberfest helped to hoist many EIN-PROSIT’s (toasts). No one had to worry about the calo-ries consumed all week from all the good food because they walked them off on the tours of the Kazoo Factory, the National Shrine and Ba-silica of Our Lady of Victory and visiting Niagara Falls. We did not even lose one person on the spectacular ride aboard the “Maid of The Mist” as we viewed the Falls from the bottom up. The group had a unique opportunity of attending the “Stop the Bleed Save a Life" seminar. It is a new program for lay people (non-health care providers) sponsored by the American Col-lege of Surgeons- committee on trauma. The class teaches the learner how to respond to a situation where a person is bleeding to help control it and possibly save their life. The very night after the course, the incident happened in Las Vegas. Many who took the class that af-ternoon wondered if they would ever use the information they obtained. Comments the next day told a different story. They were very glad they learned what to do to control bleeding. You never know what type of situation we may find ourselves in, especially in our travels. We also had something unique happen at the rally. Members, who no longer have coaches or had coach difficulties and could not travel in their Beaver, attended the rally anyway. They stayed in nearby B&B’s. I guess if you really want to at-tend a rally, you will find a way.

Thank you and beaver hugs to Roy & Carol Muel-ler for all their help as co-rally masters and to everyone who volunteered to help before and during the rally. It certainly made it a success.

The “After Shuffle” also proved to be a busy ral-ly. More interesting sites of western New York were visited, i.e. Lucille Ball museum, Frank Lloyd Wright homes and more. The rally was a la carte but the group decided they would take a ride together on the original Erie Barge

Canal in Lockport, NY. What fun it was going up and down the locks. Of course, there was more eating. This time it was at some of our favorite restaurants in Buffalo. More walking.

As you are reading this, we should be visiting with the famous mouse “Mickey” at “Tis the Sea-son” rally at Disney World. Certainly, a magical place, I am sure that all the rally participants will have a magical time. It has been said that you do not even need to go into the parks; the decorations everywhere are just spectacular. I do think we will be visiting Fantasy Land, Tom loves to have dinner with Cinderella at the Cas-tle and it unbelievable with all the lights.

Unfortunately, I have to share a bit of sad news. The “Florida’s Old Canopy Roads” rally, April 2018 in Tallahassee, FL will not occur. The board of di-rectors voted to cancel the rally, the low rally registration could not support an International rally. This means for the year 2018 the BAC will only have one International rally. Farmington, NM will be the location for the “Farmington POW WOW.” Look for the rally ad in this issue of BT. A rolling rally from the east would be a great idea. If anyone is interested let me know.

Tom and I hope everyone had a Happy Thanks-giving, and we wish everyone a Merry Christ-mas and Happy New Year. Until we see each other down the road please have safe travels.

Live, Love and Laugh a lot. Joanne

Thank You From Wally SchmidtWords cannot express the sincere apprecia-tion for the many cards, calls, emails, etc., I received concerning the “BIG BASH” put together by our daughter, Ilene Dudunake, along with her many “other relatives” here in the Boise, Idaho valley. Above all, we enjoyed hearing from BAC members of long acquain-tance and many “short” acquaintances. As Charter Members of BAC we have seen many come and go that have contributed to the maintenance and operation of this great FMCA chapter. A big THANK YOU goes to all.

We plan to continue our “Lifetime mem-bership” as long as possible, attending ral-lies and meeting BAC members on the road and in various campgrounds. However, we know the time will come to “hang up the sewer hose” eventually, as some mem-bers have done already. Until that time comes “keep the faith,” and we love you all. THANK YOU AGAIN for those who participat-ed in the big 9-0- party.

Because Garland Land is out of the country, Diana asked me if I would like to write a short article on my new position as FMCA National Senior Vice President. I said I would be hap-py to do it, so here goes.

By the time you’re reading this article, I hope that all Beavers have sent in their ballot on the Articles of Incorporation and Constitution. (one ballot per membership number) The bal-lot and information on the changes have been published in the September, October, and November issues of Family Motor Coaching. All ballots must be received by the certified pub-lic accountant by November 30, 2017. This vote will decide if FMCA accepts other recreational vehicles as members. The term “recreational vehicle”, as used herein, is defined as a self-contained wheeled vehicle that includes permanently installed cooking, sleeping, and sanitary facilities. If the issue passes, each chapter retains the right to admit or not admit towables.

I have learned more about FMCA in the last year and espe-cially in the last 4 months than I could have ever imagined. Four years ago, the bylaws were changed to automatically have the National Senior Vice President move up to President if anything were to happen to the President which precluded him from completing his term. As a result, Jon Walker, FMCA President, keeps me informed and involved on everything that he does as President. I receive more than 20 emails each day on FMCA matters and numerous phone calls. Jon and I try to talk at least once each day to make sure we are “in sync”.

After taking office in July, Claire and I have really traveled. We started out in Indianapolis, went to Cincinnati (FMCA headquarters), then on to Syracuse, NY for the Northeast Area rally. We returned to our home in Kerrville, TX for a 3 week “rest”, but during these 3 weeks, I flew from San An-tonio, TX to Perry, GA with 4 days as a site visit on the up-coming International Convention, March 15 – 18, 2018. As National Senior Vice President, I’m appointed the Chairman

of the Convention Committee and I am responsible for these conventions. Back to the travels, we left Kerrville on Sept 6th for Durant, OK and the 50th anniversary rally of the Lone Star Chapter. The following week, we were in Miami, OK for our annual maintenance on our coach. Next, we traveled to Farmington, NM for a week at the Rocky Mountain Area Rally. Our plans were to depart Sunday, but with bad weath-er coming in, we left on Saturday afternoon as we headed to Buffalo, NY for the BAC International Rally. Having had fun seeing our Beaver friends again (thanks to Thomas and Joanne Fadale for a great rally and a memorable rain-soaked day in Niagara Falls), we turned south to attend the GEAR (Great Eastern Area Rally). At these area rallies, I present one or two seminars on FMCA benefits or other topics. A week later we headed back northwest to Cincinnati for 3 days, then on to Elkhart, IN where the FMCA Executive Board meetings were held. While in Elkhart, I left Claire and the dogs at the coach while I flew out to Wyoming to another site visit for the FMCA International Convention in Gillette, July 18 - 21, 2018. After my return, we left Elkhart on Sunday at noon and arrived at the Six States Area Rally in Texarkana, AR, 26 hours later. Are you tired yet?

Following that rally we proceeded to make our way west to our casita in Surprise, AZ. Four hours after we parked, we attended a Halloween costume party hosted by Gary and Pat Gerber. Also, attending were Beavers we last saw in Buffalo, NY: Rich and Kathy Pylar, Roy and Vicki Warren, and Ger-ald and Glenda Farris. We Beavers certainly move around the country. You would think we were around to rest a few weeks, but Claire and I flew out in late November to represent FMCA in Louisville, KY for the RVIA Manufacturers Show.

To say the least, things are fast moving, and time is flying. Claire has been working on our travel schedule for the next two years, so we can keep up with everything.

I am revising the seminars steadily as the FMCA benefits continue to change in helping all our FMCA members. New programs in November include: Nov 1st the new FMCA Roadside Assistance program at an super savings of only $69 per year for one, two, or three year packages, and Nov 8th release of the Verizon 2-year mobile hotspot contract for the U.S. usage at only $49.99 plus taxes and fees. Soon to follow

is Sprint with a matching program for those who can’t use Verizon in their area. We are working on more communication programs to provide benefits that will cover our members while they are in Canada. Sometime these programs seem to be slow because of the international laws, but we are making headway.

Claire and I are very busy, but we feel that we are making a difference, and we hope that you will see and enjoy the fruits of our labor.

Have a wonderful holiday season and travel safely.
