Dear friends and clients, 9 days and counting for our Discover Your Healthy Mind and Body event! All the details are on page 4 and 5 of this newsletter, including the bios of our wonderful speakers. I’m making FABBulous swag bags, and I have been posting a lot of the contents on my FB page. If you haven’t registered yet, please do so ASAP so I know how many swag bags to make! The website to register is https://squareup.com/store/face-and-body-bar . I just got back from NOLA (yes, again—LOL) seeing the sights and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers play. Here’s a pic of my bestest friend since 2nd grade who lives in California (next to me) and her Aunt Patti from Pittsburgh (all the way on the left) and my friend’s friend Colleen (2nd from left) who flew in from Portland just for a day and a half to go to this game. Needless to say, we had SO much fun eating and drinking our way through NOLA and waving our Terrible Towel at the game. P.S. We won! GO STEELERS NATION! While I was there, I did do a session of hot yoga. If you’ve never experienced it, it’s a real sweatbox in the studio and everyone in there was dripping throughout the class. I know that doesn’t sound appealing, but just think of the detox! And speaking of yoga, there will be NO Yoga at Face & Body Bar on Monday, Sept. 5th, due to Labor Day. My next adventure is taking me to Ft. Lauderdale to the International Esthetics, Cosmetics and Spa Conference in October. I always look forward to attending these conferences—mostly for the education but I also like to keep my clients aware of what’s new and exciting in the esthetics industry. I’ll be sharing all the good info in my November newsletter. Signing off until next time — hope to see many of you at my event on Sept. 10th! Have a FABBulous month! How Stress Affects Sleep

According to the National Institutes of Health, most adults do best with 7-8 hours of sleep; teens need more – usually 9-10 hours of sleep. How much do we actually get? About 1-2 hours less than we need.

Health Benefits of Sleep

Keeping a healthy weight. When you do not have enough sleep, you do not make good food choices and you skip exercise because you are too tired.

Better mental performance and improved memory. Ever try to take a test or learn something new without a good night’s sleep?

Improved physical functioning. Good sleep makes for better athletic performance.

Stronger immune system. Yes, it is true – you can fight off infections and improve vaccine effectiveness if you get good sleep.

Accident avoidance. Driving while sleep-deprived can be as bad as driving drunk.

Healthy mental state. Your mood is better after a good night’s sleep and you are less likely to become depressed.

Reducing your Stress

Acknowledge stressors and change what you can.

Repeat successes in your head before bedtime. What went “right” today? What did you accomplish?

Practice good sleep habits. Go to bed at the same time and wake up at the same time each day.

Eat healthy, with less sugars and fats, smaller frequent meals. Exercise regularly, but not late in the day. Avoid caffeine and alcohol after dinner.

Decompress before bedtime – do not do work or read emails.

Seek help if stress is continually keeping you awake. You may need to see your health care provider, a counselor or a sleep specialist.

Last month I featured doTERRA’s BALANCE, a wonderful grounding blend that promotes tranquility while bringing harmony to the mind and body, and balance to the emotions. And I use this every morning on the bottom of my feet to start my day. How do I end my day? By diffusing SERENI-TY. This sweet smell helps me have sweet dreams. It’s also a wonderful calming aroma while practicing yoga. As you may be aware, there are many benefits to yoga that can have a positive effect on our physical, mental, and emo-tional well-being. It’s now time to understand how essential

oils can relate to this ancient practice. While modern day science has yet to thoroughly ascertain the benefits of essential oils and yoga when combined, there are still many benefits to be received. Much like yoga, the use of essential oils aims to support the well-being of the body, mind, and spirit. Research has shown that essen-tial oils not only provide emotional benefits but physical benefits as well. There are several studies that speak to the abilities of essential oils to help reduce anxious feelings and provide an overall sense of well-being. Other research studies have shown that they can help maintain concentration. Lastly, research has suggested that essential oils help promote feelings of clear breathing and open airways. As you can see, yoga and essential oils easily go hand-in-hand. You can, and should, enhance your current practice by using the two together. So whether you are a brand new or seasoned yogi, everyone can benefit from using essential oils during their prac-tice. Here are some tips on oils to include in your practice:

Apply InTune® at the beginning of class to help set your focus.

Rub a drop of dōTERRA Breathe® on your chest.

For a more invigorating practice, diffuse Wild Orange and Peppermint.

Diffuse Serenity® for a more calming practice.

Apply a drop of Frankincense or Sandalwood to your temples during meditation to help you relax and reduce stress.

Apply dōTERRA Balance® to the back of your neck during Savasana to help with relaxation. In addition to supplying the highest quality essential oils, dōTERRA is committed to making a positive differ-ence in the lives of farmers, harvesters, and distillers who contribute to dōTERRA’s oil production. With over 100 essential oils in its product line, dōTERRA sources its oils from over 40 countries —more than half of which could be considered developing countries. To ensure that small scale farmers and harvesters in disadvantaged areas are treated ethically, dōTERRA has introduced an initiative called Cō-Impact Sourcing. Cō-Impact Sourcing is an initiative that seeks to develop long-term, mutually beneficial supplier partnerships while creating sustainable jobs and providing reliable income in underdeveloped areas. dōTERRA is commit-ted to the ethical treatment of its suppliers by providing on-time payments at fair prices. Growers and har-vesters are encouraged to form cooperative groups to share collective benefits and bargaining power while improving skills and capacity. Additionally, the Healing Hands Foundation, dōTERRA’s charitable organization, provides funding and resources to create community-based, social-impact projects to improve lives in the larger communities where oils are sourced. Past projects include building or sponsoring existing medical clinics, installing drink-ing water and irrigation systems, building schools, and providing other educational resources such as voca-tional training programs. It’s such a fabulous company—please check out my website @ www.mydoterra.com/faceandbodybar or call me with any questions. I’d love to help you get on a healthy and natural journey to good health.
