Good DogKeeping dogs on-leash in public areas, teaching your dog social skills and obedience training are all responsibilities of a dog owner. However, there are a few things we can all do to help minimise the risk of bad dog behaviour. These are:• If you feel threatened by a dog slowly back away. Do not run• Always supervise babies and young children around dogs• Keep children away from dogs that are sleeping, feeding or
recovering from illness or injury
Most kids love dogs. It’s important to teach kids to:• Respect dogs• Keep their faces away from dog's faces• Never walk up to a dog they don’t know
without the owner’s permission• Stand still and don’t scream or jump if a
dog they don’t know walks up to them• Avoid eye contact with a dog
Dog bites are serious and can have deadly consequences. If a dog does bite you should:• Contact Council on 4227 7111 and report
the incident• Seek medical or veterinary attention and ask
for a statement of attendance• Get a description – or a photograph of the
dog, and its owner’s name and address• Take pictures of any injuries• Write down a statement of what happened

TIMEDON-LEASHAREA
PUBLICAREA
Dogs are allowed in all other public areas (excluding children’s play areas). However, they must always be on a leash.
When exercising your dog please be aware there are certain places where dogs are prohibited. Become familiar with the colour-coded signage system on our beaches and selected parks and know where you can and can't take your dog.
Dogs are allowed off-leash here all the time. However, owners must ensure their dogs don’t rush at, attack, bite, harass or chase any people or animals in these areas.
Dogs are allowed on-leash only during these times; Before 9am and after 4pm from 25 April to the start of the September School Holidays AND before 9am and after 6pm from the September School Holidays through to 24 April.
Dogs are not to go in these areas at any time. These areas include all rock platforms, children’s play areas, food preparation areas, school grounds, childcare centres, public swimming areas (including some beaches) and wildlife protection areas.
Colour-coded signage system for beaches and parks
At beach locations use the signage markers as a guide to the colour-coded boundaries.
If you’ve moved house or your phone number changes don’t fur-get to update Council. This small step helps reunite lost pets.
