Co-delivered by Macquarie University Graduate School of Management (MGSM) and Macquarie University, the Master of Social Entrepreneurship has been developed for social entrepreneurs and professionals working or planning to work in the field of social enterprise, corporate social responsibility and sustainability within business, government or not-for-profit organisations.

If you're passionate about improving lives through social justice, creating social impact and assuring environmental sustainability, this innovative course is designed for you. Social entrepreneurship is about applying business and management principles to social issues and complex challenges that range from healthcare and hunger relief to biofuels and sustainability.

The program combines compulsory units from both MGSM and Macquarie University along with extensive elective options that enable students to tailor their skills, knowledge and experience to their passions and professional ambitions.

The Master of Social Entrepreneurship is designed for:

Two centres of learning and thought leadershipStudents can take MGSM units at either of our campuses; North Ryde and CBD, while Macquarie University units are taken at the University’s North Ryde campus.

Entry requirementsStudents are required to possess an Australian Bachelor Degree (or recognised equivalent) and a minimum of two-years of relevant managerial or professional experience.

International applicants may be required to demonstrate proficiency in English.

Costs of tuition‡

MGSM is committed to supporting the social sector and has subsidised unit costs of the Master of Social Entrepreneurship and the Graduate Certificate program. This subsidy is equivalent to a 25% discount on the cost of comparable units in other programs such as MGSM's Master of Management or MBA. The subsidy is offered in lieu of scholarships, however international applicants may be able to apply for other scholarships offered through Macquarie University.

Our academic yearMGSM has a four term academic year and students can elect to start their program at Term 1 or Term 3 to align their study with the Macquarie University academic sessions. Terms consist of ten weeks of class, one week for exams and one week vacation.

Macquarie University has a two session academic year. This provides further flexibility to plan your studies around career or personal commitments throughout the year.

Flexible study optionsEach unit of study is delivered over 40 hours of class time in a term. You can choose between weekly classes, block study or online study* for each course unit. This mix and match flexibility lets you tailor your studies around your professional and personal commitments.

MGSM WEEKLY CLASSES Enables students to attend one face-to-face class per week. Classes are held in the evenings for part-time students and mornings for full-time students.

MGSM BLOCK CLASSES Enables completion of 40 hours of face-to-face classes over five days (including two weekends). Intensive block classes are often preferred by students who may be required to travel for work.

MGSM ONLINE STUDYAllows for students to study remotely over the term in an interactive environment designed to the same rigorous standards as on-campus learning.

MACQUARIE UNIVERSITY WEEKLY CLASSES (INTERNAL)Classes are conducted on campus and may be offered during the day or evening.

MACQUARIE UNIVERSITY ONLINE STUDY (EXTERNAL)Classes and learning activities are undertaken off campus in an online environment, supplementary on-campus sessions may be required and are typically offered as intensive block classes.
