Celebrating Earth Day with Renewable EnergyThough it is offi cially celebrated on April 22, every day is Earth Day here at Nolin RECC because of our constant commitment to the environment.

When it comes to energy conservation and renewable power, Nolin and Kentucky’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives have long been leaders. In 2003, we constructed the state’s fi rst renewable power projects, plants that convert decaying landfi ll trash into electricity. Today, there are six of these plants, which are recognized for being both environmentally responsible and cost effi cient.

And now Nolin members have the opportunity to invest in solar energy. Our power provider, East Kentucky Power

Cooperative, has built a community solar farm and installed thousands of solar panels on about 60 acres at a site in Central Kentucky. You now have the opportunity to purchase a license for a portion of this solar project’s capacity. You can go to www.cooperativesolar.com to fi nd out more.

For now, let’s celebrate the earth and the power it provides to all of us!

National Lineman Appreciation Day is April 9th.

If you see some of the Nolin line techs out in your community, be sure to tell them how much you appreciate what they do! Remember, your power works because they do! Use #ThankALineman on social media to show your support to these hard-working men and women.

Ceiling Fans: Which way should they turn?Ceiling fans are economical to operate and can help keep you comfortable year ‘round. During the winter, they circulate the heated air that rises to the ceiling and redirect it back down toward the fl oor. In winter, operate fans at low speeds.

Most ceiling fans are designed to be reversible for winter operation. Make sure that the direction of airfl ow on your ceiling fan is upward in the winter for maximum effectiveness. This will force heat back down around the walls. Don’t forget to reverse the switch when the weather warms up so that the air will help cool your room!
