    PRINCIPALS REPORT Issue 10

    School ReviewMr. Michael Rowland will conduct an extensivereview of the Boort District P-12 School over the next few weeks. Mr.Rowland has had over 15 years experience as a school reviewer and Ilook forward to assisting Mr. Rowland with this important educationalprocess. As part of this review, Mr. Rowland has indicated that he is

    willing to meet with a small number of parents to discuss theirthoughts about the school and to help determine a direction for thefuture. If you are willing to meet with Mr. Rowland for either anindividual or small group session could you please give me a call. Mr.Rowland will be at Boort on Wednesday 2nd May, Friday 4th May,Monday 7th May, Tuesday 8th May and Friday 10th May.

    Ultranet at King StreetThe Ultranet program at our King Streetcampus will be getting a real boost this term with Mrs. Holland beingemployed for an additional day. Her work will assist staff and studentswith the Ultranet particularly focussing on the development of onlinelearning tasks.

    Anzac ServicesThank you to students who participated in theservices at Malone Street and King Street. Student involvement inthese services is always a highlight and I thank the students whoparticipated in such a respectful and confident manner. I would like tothank Mr. Alan Streader for playing the bugle at both venues. We are

    fortunate to have Mr. Streader in our community.

    Parent/Teacher InterviewsMalone Street campusI would like to thank the many parents who took the opportunityto discuss their childs progress with teachers. The partnership between parents, staff and students is vitally important tolong term success. Processes like Parent/Teacher interviews are so important in developing and sustaining a positiverelationship. If for any reason you were unable to attend, teachers are more than willing to make alternative times.

    Parents Victoria Online Conference 2012

    6am Sunday 20 May to midnight Saturday 26 May (Australian time)

    * Principals, headmasters and teachers are invited to inform parents of this no-cost opportunity for discussion and

    debate.PARENTS of primary and secondary students, in all states, territories and countries, are warmly invited to take part inthis years online conference, to be held next month by Parents Victoria, in Australia. The conference will be held non -stopon the internet from 6am Sunday 20 May to midnight Saturday 26 May. No special software is needed, other thanan internet-connected computer and a browser (speakers are an advantage but are optional). The online discussions willbe very easy to join in, online resources will be provided, and guidelines about how to participate will be available.*You dont need to be a member of Parents Victoria to take part. Join in for all days, just some days, or even a fewhours, depending on your lifestyle and other commitments.Topics

    The exact day-to-day conference program will be emailed to those who register shortly before the conferencebegins. Topics include Celebrating Public Education, Bullying, Multiculturalism, Languages Other Than English(LOTE), Mental Health, Travel to School and School Payments.

    Grade 5/6 Science ProjectWe have been working on a project called Mission to Mars. Over the past week and before the holidays we beganthis task in preparation to go to the Victorian Space Science Centre at Strathmore Secondary College on Friday 27 th

    April. We have been working through a series of tasks including researching different planets, comparing surfacesand presenting this in a folder involving many paper folding activities. We are looking forward to working at thespace centre on Friday and reporting back our findings.

    ANZAC ServiceOn Tuesday, the Grade 4 students presented a very informative ANZAC service. It was pleasing to witness thereverence with which the students remember the ANZACS. The students are to be congratulated on the way theyconducted the service. Thank you to Megan Turnbull for helping the students organise the service and to Ros Lanyonfor helping the students with the wreath. We are grateful to Mr Alan Streader for playing the bugle at the service. MrStreader has willingly given up his time for a number of years to participate in the King Street ANZAC service.A big thank you to the students that helped sweep, shift chairs and set up for the service when it started to rain.

    Cultural PerformanceOn Tuesday 1st May the Cultural PerformanceA Slice of Vaudeville, will be performing at King Street. Thestudents are looking forward to the performance. It is a wonderful opportunity for the students. The performancepayment is part of the compulsory fee, paid by parents.

    Head LiceThere have been incidents of head lice reported to the school, since the holidays. Could all parents please be vigilantabout checking hair on a weekly basis? Using conditioner and a fine tooth comb will allow the live lice and nits to beremoved. Thank you to the parents who are vigilant about checking their childs hair weekly; however we needcommitment from all parents to complete a checking and treatment process. Please contact me if you require any helpor information.

    Fun Run

    On Wednesday, 9th May, King Street students will be participating in a Fun Run, in conjunction with Malone Streetstudents, beginning at 12 oclock. The actual run will start and finish at the King St basketball court, run along the dirtroad bordering the cow patch, coming up King Street (near the fire station).King Street students will not be seeking sponsorship for this activity.All students will be participating in training sessions during the next few weeks in preparation for the event. Studentsare advised to wear sneakers for the next 2 weeks rather than their black school shoes. Please ensure you send yourchildren to school with a drinker each day.Prep & Grade 1: Will be required to run/walk - 1 kmGrade 2,3,&4: Will be required to run/walk - 2 kms

    Grade Five and Six JournalsOn the 19th of April the grade 5/6 came up to King Street to read their journals.Mr Bleicher and Mrs Featherby walked up with the 5/6s. The best explainingpeople who I went with were Tim and Jordan. Zac Poxon

    On the 19/4/12 the grade five and six came back to King Street campus, to readout their Journals to the grade 3/4. It was awesome to have the grade 5/6s back!They said some pretty good things about their first two weeks at the new schoolin Malone Street campus. My favourite pairs who read to me were Oscar andFiona. Their Journals were nice and long. They came at about 12:00. AvaLanyon

    Today the grade 5/6 came to share their

    journals. I went with Mitchell, Archie, Molly and Austin. They came at11.45am.They had the best journals ever because they had made it very interesting.Angus Potter

    Today at Boort District School King Street campus we had the fabulous grade5/6 come to our school to read their journals to us. There were lots of peoplereading their journals to us it sounds great at the new school!! Chloe Baker

    Today at Boort District School the 5/6 came to our school to read out theirjournals. Also Mrs Featherby and Mr Bleicher came from Malone Street. I firstlistened to Shane Bowerman and Justus Field. They read about all their periods

    and their teachers. Then I listened to Finn Poxon and Rory Grogan. Finally Ilistened to Oscar Harrington and Fiona Ray. They read about their teachers andperiods and what they do at play time. Bella Grogan and Acacia Vernon did aspeech. That was nice. All the grade 5/6 journals were really good. Emma

    Today the grade 5-6 came to read their journal to us. It was fun to listen to them.My favourite one was Shayne and Justus. It took a long time, but it was so fun that I

    COMMUNITY NEWSBoort BadmintonThe Senior Badminton competition is starting up again with a tournament on 26th of April, at 7:30pm.Anyone interested (Year 7 and above) is welcome to come along and have a hit.

    Net Set GoThe Net Set Go program will run again this year on a Thursday night from 3:45-4:45 in the Community Centre, starting

The cost for the program is $65.00 which includes 10 sessions, Net Set Go pack (Sports bag,Netball, lunchbox, snack pod, drink bottle, activity book & Melbourne Vixen name tag) and cost of Community Centrehire.
