YWAM TOWNSVILLE one specific doctrine or another, the Bible Core Course (BCC) encourages its students to look at the historical and literary context throughout the Bible in order to accurately interpret Scripture, and out of the understanding gained, to then apply it personally and share it effectively with others. Historical context is simply placing the contents of the book being studied in real time and real life, looking at it from the eyes of the original reader. Literary context is all about paying attention to the meaning and connection of each chapter, paragraph, phrase, and even word in light of the whole book. Both types of context are then brought together, along with observation and interpretation exercises, which help students find the main idea of each book and guide them into sound interpretation and applications that have the power to change lives, even beyond their own. Not only do we learn to study the Bible for personal understanding, but we also go into Papua New Guinea to give this same education to those without access. As a ministry, YWAM Townsville has been focusing a lot of attention on the nation of PNG. We have been sending our Medical Ship out into remote areas to try and help meet some of the many physical needs of the people in these areas. We, as the BCC, are excited to go and serve alongside this aspect of the ministry and to offer as much of the education we have received to those who would like to learn. It is our deepest conviction that all nations, regardless of creed or color, deserve a chance to understand this book we call the Bible. For the first 2 weeks, we will be heading up to the Southern Highland Province where we will be working in local villages doing different youth programs & church services as well as Bible teachings. we should be pretty busy:) We then will all travel back to Mt. Hagen (Central Highlands) and the team will split into two, a few students will fly to meet the Medical Ship and serve onboard for about two and a half weeks, while the rest of the team will stay in Mt. Hagen for just over a week to serve different churches

and connect with some of the pastors that we were able to teach last year. We then fly to Port Moresby to work with more churches doing Bible teaching, programs, and anything else we can to help.

Our goal is to teach people how to study the Bible for themselves. We hope also to give them tools that will allow them to continue to “Study for Life Change” long after we are gone! We truly believe that being able to study the Bible genuinely brings long term change. By taking the time to teach people how to find answers for themselves instead of just telling them what we think about God, not only do they value it more but they take away a tool that will serve them when no one is around to answer their questions!

A favorite picture of mine, taken in PNG. When you see Jesus, do you see a 1st century, olive skinned Palestinian or do you see a long haired, Hollywood influenced, hippy in a white robe and weird sandals? Let us not be mislead as we see Jesus!

SEEING JESUS?

Thank you for all your support!
