Registration open for summer and fall semester at BMCC

Bay Mills Community College registration for summer and fall classes is now open. For a full course listing, visit www.bmcc.edu.

Vacancies on the Child Welfare Committee There are three (3) openings on the Child Welfare Committee.

The Child Welfare Committee meets on a monthly basis. In case of an emergency, there may be a need for more than one meeting a month. If anyone is interested in the specific duties of the Child Welfare Committee, they are available at the tribal office.

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and must be a member of the Bay Mills Indian Community.

BMCC announces graduation ceremonies This year’s Commencement Exercises for Bay Mills Community College will be held on Friday, May 11, at the Bay Mills Resort & Casino’s Horizon Conference Center. The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. Line-up for all participating graduates and faculty will begin promptly at 10 a.m.

Group Photos-Waishkey Center Gym: All participating graduates, faculty, and staff must be at the Waishkey Center Gym by 9:15 a.m. for group pictures. If for any reason, you are late, there is no guarantee you will be included in the photo.

Caps, gowns, and tassels : All 2018 participating graduates should see Holly Sparks at the reception desk in the Administration

Need invitations?: While invitations are not required as the ceremony is open to the public, each graduate will be issued 10 commencement invitations. These are available for pick-up at the Student Success Center. Out of town graduates who would like their invitations mailed to them must contact Deb Wilson or Heather Church at 906-248-3354.

Executive Council Meeting Schedule

• Monday, April 9 at 4:30 p.m.., in the tribal administration building.

• The next General Tribal Council meeting will take place on Wednesday, April 25 at 6 p.m. in the Armella Parker Building. Please note the change in location. If you have an item that you would like placed on the agenda, please submit the request to the Chairman in writing by the end of the day on Monday, April 16th. You can email your request to him at [email protected].

OCS looking for substitute teachers

Do you have 90 college credits? Are you looking for a flexible, daytime schedule? Ojibwe Charter School is currently looking for substitute teachers.

If you meet the above criteria and are interested, please contact the school at 906- 248-8600 or email your resume and transcripts to [email protected].

Pay rate is $90/day and increases to $100/day if you sub for more than 10 days in a school year.

Did you know that the tribal website, www.baymills.org, has a members only page? On this page you can access minutes from past council meetings, GTC’s, financials, and the secretary’s report. You can obtain a username and password by calling tribal administration. Be prepared to provide your enrollment number (on your tribal ID), as well as your birthdate. Once you have the password, go to the page, use the member resources tab at the top, and click on tribal member access. Please keep in mind this material is for tribal member information only.

Bay Mills Executive Council has launched “Suggestion Ox,” an online tool that allows tribal members to provide feedback to the council on an anonymous basis. You can submit you comments/suggestions online at www.baymills.org using the suggestion box provided. Please refrain from profanity or accusations. This suggestion box is designed to answer community questions and keep the lines of communication open

Update from the Boys & Girls Club

Important reminders - The Brimley Club is CLOSED on half days of school. The Bay Mills Club is open from after school until 5 p.m.

*Thursday, April 12th - The Brimley Club is closed, and we hope to see lots of members attend Thursday, April 12th at the Bay Mills Club for a special celebration in recognition of Boys & Girls Club Week!

*Wednesday, April 18th - The Club has partnered with Bay Mills Biology Department to celebrate Earth Day with a family movie night at the Bay Mills Club starting at 6pm.

*Friday, April 20th - Both Clubs are closed for staff development.

Food Pantry available to tribal members Bay Mills Indian Community Food Pantry is located at the Waishkey Center. Everyone needs a little help sometimes and there’s no shame in needing food. The program is need based and not based on income. Please contact Renee Johnson or Anna Rogers Stott if you are in need of food at 906-248-8300.

Bay Mills News Deadlines/Digital Subscription Bay Mills News updates are made to the website daily and a downloadable traditional-style newspaper will be available the 3rd Thursday of each month. In order to receive a link to this issue, send a message to [email protected] to be added to the subscription list. Deadlines for content in both the online and print issue remain the same, 4 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month. The next deadline is Thursday, April 12. Michigan Cottage Food Law

Free to all Brimley/Bay Mills Farmers Market vendors and to members of all

federally recognized tribes!

Learn how to prepare and sell foods to the public under Michigan’s Cottage Food Law. This two-hour workshop combines the business and food safety aspects of preparing and selling cottage foods safely and successfully. Michigan Cottage Food Law allows residents to manufacture foods in home kitchens and store those products at home.

Topics include preparing, packaging, labeling, storing and transporting cottage foods.

Participants receive a certificate of participation.
