Final Cut Pro X Success or Failure? Jason Bazinet

Tis article is my opinion only and does not re ect the opinions or stance o BA V.

Now that most o you that edit here at BA V are settling in and getting com ortable with Final Cut Pro, Appland made major changes to their editing so ware. Have no worries, BA V has no plans to switch to the newe

o Final Cut Pro in the oreseeable uture, but this article is just to explain some o the changes that might e you own an older version o Final Cut Pro at home and are planning to upgrade.

On a positive note or consumers, the price or Final Cut Pro X has signi cantly dropped. It is now $299 oro Final Cut Pro X, but it no longer comes as a suite o so ware. You can buy compressor and motion or $5other components including DVD Studio Pro, Color, Sountdtrack, and Livetype have either been retired or cominto Final Cut Pro.

A major draw back in my opinion is that i youve used Final Cut Pro in the past and have several projects yoto use again or work on some more, you cant do that any more. Final Cut X is so di erent rom Final Cut Pro previous versions, that you cannot import old projects into Final Cut X. Tis could be a big down all i you stor want to access your old projects.

Also, the new version o Final Cut Pro no longer contains a log and capture unction to import video romidea is that everything will be tapeless, but as you know, that is not entirely the case yet. Several members at Bcontinue to record programs on mini DV tape and need the ability to import them.

I have not personally used the new version o Final Cut X yet, so I cant say or sure i the new version is go what I can say is that it has gotten an exorbitant number o bad reviews and complaints rom pro essional edare many eatures that didnt make it into the new version, although there is talk that later version releases o will bring them back.

ime will tell i the launch o Final Cut X will be success ul. In the meantime, several competitors seem to bmoves to take advantage o Apples blunder by o ering discounts on their so ware or users switching awayCut Pro.

For now, have com ort in knowing your projects will still continue as normal here at BA V. As technology chsometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. I believe Apple has success ully alienated its pro essional marattempt to be at the cutting edge o the market. I think they ended up at the bleeding edge and that may be toomany consumers.
