Шильонский замок, построенный на единственной дороге, ведущей в Ита-лию, переходит из рук епископов Сиона в руки графов Савойских в середине XII-ого века. Как писал Виктор Гюго, Шильон - это "Блок башен, расположенных на валу-не". Построенный на острове, замок до-стигает 100 метров в длину и 50 в ширину. Die Grafen von Savoien übernehmen Chillon, unumgänglicher Durchgangsort auf dem Weg nach Italien, Mitte des 12. Jh. von den Bischöfen von Sion. Dieses Inselschloss, ein «Block von Türmen auf einem Felsblock» (Victor Hugo), misst 50 auf 100 Meter. Es entstand durch Anbauten rund um den Bergfried hauptsächlich unter Peter II (1203 -1268), dem «kleinen Karl der Grosse». Rund um den ersten Hof befinden sich die Schlossdienste, der zweite wird vom Wohnraum des Kastellans beherrscht und der dritte von den herrschaftlichen Gemächern. Chillon, halb Festung, halb Schloss, verdankt seine Berühmtheit zum Teil dem «Gefangenen von Chillon» (1816), einem Gedicht, das Lord Byron François Bonivard widmete, dem Gegner der Savoien, der 1536 von den Bernern, den neuen Herren von Chillon, befreit wurde.

Travellers had to pass Chillon on the route to Italy. It passed from the Bishops of Sion to tthe Counts of Savoy in the mid-12th centu-ry. Described by Victor Hugo as “a block of towers on a block of stone”, the castle built on an island is 50 metres by 100 metres. It grew around the keep in successive stages, with major building done during the time of Peter II (1203-1268), known as “Little Charlemagne”. Castle services were grouped in the first courtyard, the castellan’s living quarters dominated the second courtyard and around the third courtyard were the lord of the castle’s apartments. Half-fortress and half-dwelling, Chillon owes part of its renown to the “Prisoner of Chillon”, the poem written by Lord Byron in 1816 dedicated to François Bonivard, an opponent of the Savoys, who was freed by the Bernese when they took the castle in 1536.

Mi-forteresse mi-rési-dence, Chillon doit une part de sa célébrité au « Prisonnier de Chillon » (1816), poème que Lord Byron consacre à François Boni-vard, opposant aux Savoie, délivré par les Bernois, nouveaux maîtres des lieux, en 1536.
