    The mission of BASIX is to improve the lives of the poor, primarily targeting the rural poor and womeprovision of integrated financial services and technical assistance. The organization is among the firscompanies in the world to attract commercial debt and equity investments, both internationally and frBASIX offers a range of services including savings and insurance, agricultural, livestock and non-fardevelopment, and institutional development to rural producers and their groups. BASIX works with ovcustomers, over 90% being rural poor households and about 10% urban slum dwellers.     Born in Pune, India, Vijay Mahajan is Co-founder & Chairman of BASIX,institution in India based in Hyderabad, and president of Microfinance Infrom 1983 to 1988, Mr. Mahajan was executive director for one of Indiaspecializing in rural livelihoods and microfinance, working with over 150,worked as an independent trainer, consultant and researcher and focuslivelihood, until he co-founded BASIX in 1996.
