Standard Student Grievance Procedure:

Educate your students on campus procedures:

1. A student should 1st try to resolve the difference with their instructor directly

2. If a solution cannot be obtained, the student can request a meeting with the Education Supervisor or the Director of Education.

3. For Non-academic issues – we walk the student to the campus personnel who can best address the matter.

4. When all staff, faculty and management have exhausted all efforts and resources the Executive Director is approached and the home office education personnel and/or the advising compliance department may possibly be consulted. (Note: the campus E.D. would have been in the know prior to this stage).

5. If the campus cannot adequately address the complaint or concern the student may consider contacting: Lincoln Educational Services Problem Resolution Hotline 1-800-806-1921

Conflicts are best resolved when people utilize basic communication skills, common sense, and discretion.

Page 14: BASELINE POLICIES & PROCEDURES for Instructorslincolnlearning.interactyx.com/community/upload/LEAP Module Basel… · • Assignment: Obtain and Review a copy of your campus catalog

Intro to FERPA: Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act

“Once a student reaches 18 years of age or attends a postsecondary institution, he or she becomes an "eligible student," and all rights formerly given to parents under FERPA transfer to the student. The eligible student has the right to have access to his or her education records, the right to seek to have the records amended, the right to have control over the disclosure of personally identifiable information from the records (except in certain circumstances specified in the FERPA regulations, some of which are discussed below), and the right to file a complaint with the Department. The term "education records" is defined as those records that contain information directly related to a student and which are maintained by an educational agency or institution or by a party acting for the agency or institution. FERPA generally prohibits the improper disclosure of personally identifiable information derived from education records …” US Department of Education, http://ed.gov/policy/gen/guid/fpco/ferpa/students.html
