What are the potential barriers
• Mental and or physical health problems
- depression, bipolar, learning difficulties, anxiety
- hearing or vision problems, physical limitations, and
disease.
• Negative attitudes, uninformed employers, poor support, training, welfare and benefits, the economy
These can and do affect clients abilities to be able to search, prepare for, start and sustain employment
.
What are the potential barriers
• Within peoples disabilities they may also be affected by
- lack of confidence or motivation, fear
- low self-esteem, anxiety about the unknown
- no structure or plan
- concerns about they can do and or their work history
or lack of qualifications
- the economic climate
- misconceptions about their own abilities
What we do can to help
A full interview/meeting
- Introduce ourselves and the Shaw Trust
- Talk, Listen and record - FACT FIND
- Identify what we can do and what they can do next!
- Create a plan of action for them – GET THEIR BUY IN
- Outline the steps that need to be taken and that there is support
for them in order to achieve there goal of work.
- Ensure we know what is available to support and what the local is
happening in the local job market
- Check that their benefit entitlement is correct and what welfare
support is available
- On-going contact and communication
Resource and SupportCreate the CV that is best for them
Provide training for example the ‘Jump Start’ program
Voluntary work
Help with job search’s local papers, job sites, existing employer relationships, marketing
clients to organisations
Build their confidence through positive reinforcement which can be done at
work choice interviews
Develop the existing plan of action that could include other resource the tools
needed to prepare for interview and work
Memory jog cards – what needs to be done
Interview training – self presentation, how to answer questions, dealing with a difficult question
Advocate
Rehearse interviews
Ensure prospective employers have made the right adjustments and can interview effectively
Access to work – is it required?
Review the process
On-going support
• Continued contact with client
• Work place visits
• Financial transition from benefits to earned income
- £40 p/wk non taxable for the first year
- £50 job seekers grant
- £200 one off payment
