Located next to CinéBistro on Swann Avenue, Irish 31 isbecoming a go to place that is known for its decent drinks andIrish cuisine in the South Hyde Park Area.

Drinks: All the standards are here. Beer, wine and a full liquorbar. About 14 beers on tap, 12 bottled beers, a growing wine listand a respectable liquor selection are all available to keep youtipsy and Irish worthy.

Food: Irish fare such as the Pie of the Shephard, North CountryLamb Stew, Bangers & Mash and Forest Mushroom Chicken areall on the menu. Items of note include the Macho Nachos and theIrish Boxties. The Macho Nachos are big enough for two peopleto share and feature house-fried potato chips topped with ale pubcheese, beef, diced tomato, jalapeno, and sour cream. The IrishBoxties are breaded and fried mashed potato balls served withspicy horse radish dipping sauce, salsa and guacamole. Itdoesn't hurt to ask for a side a ranch on these fried concoctionsbecause it is delicious!

Decor: Irish 31 is pretty simple. It's not exactly a fancy place but it is loaded withtelevision sets both inside and outside. Just when you think you counted them all yousee another one in a corner or above the bar. Indoors is pretty small. The bar is in thecorner with several stools to sit and watch your favorite game and is surrounded by afew high tops and a few booths. Outside there are lots of swivel chairs that don't stopmoving when you sit on them! The outdoor area also has ceiling fans and a windowthat connects to the indoor bar. There is a deck outside that is usually covered withtables and chairs but when live bands perform its transformed into a stage.

Insider tips: Smoking is only permitted outside. The bar is opened for lunch anddinner. Busiest nights are the weekends. Visa, Mastercard, Discover and cash are theaccepted methods of payment. Patrons can join the iSociety at Irish 31 and receivebenefits, specials and discounts only available to iSociety members. Weekly eventsinclude Meet up Monday for networking and hospitality industry specials. Tuesdaysare ladies night. Wednesdays feature wine specials all day. Thursdays areconsidered singles night to mingle and tingle. Fridays are date nights with dinnerspecials for two. Saturdays if there is a soccer or football game or even a UFC fightsome kind of action will be playing on the TVs. Every Sunday there are brunch andfootball specials. Parking is complimentary in the garage across the street from thebar.

Service: Really great. The wait staff is nice and the food and drinks come quickly.

Sounds: Smooth and easy listening. Contemporary and soft rock with bits of popdropped in for good measure. Live entertainment is heard on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6:30p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Typically the live entertainment is an acoustic set.

Bottom line: Whether visiting after a movie or just to grab a drink and a bite to eat Irish 31 can keep you fullof good food and decent drinks.

The damage: Beer is $3 and up for a glass. Bottled beer is $4 to $5.50 for domestic and $5.50 and up forimports. Cocktails range from $5 to $11 and up depending on the pour and the liquor used. Wine begins at$6.50. Happy hour features many 2-4-1 specials. Each day different specials are offered.

Dress code: It’s like casual Friday at the office. Polos and khakis or even jeans with nice shirts for guys.Capris, skirts and pants with nice tops for girls. However, stopping by for a drink after work dressed even moreprofessionally is not unheard of.
