Stretch your legs and find that Bamboo logo in

the crowd outside your terminal because the tour

begins now. Whether you're flying, bussing, or

sailed for six months under the tutelage of a 10th

generation Magellan, our staff will greet you and

take you to your new home.

Once you’re checked-in, grab a shower (re: you

better shower if you sailed), meet up with the rest

of your group and choose to relax, or get lost in

the incredible lanes filled with everything and

anything you can think of. The day is yours.

Nested in the heart of Kuta, surrounded by

shopping, bars, restaurants and just a short, easy

walk to Kuta’s main beach, your hotel is extremely

well placed to allow even the most laid back

explorers venture out and discover Bali’s most

popular tourist hub.

Rooms here feature everything you need to rest

and sleep well - but let’s face it, you’re not here to

spend time in your bedroom! Nevertheless, you’ll

have the much needed air-conditioning, western

bathroom, TV, fridge and comfortable beds. The

hotel also features a lovely pool and restaurant.

In the evening, for those feeling up to it, there’s an

informal meet-and-greet over some dinner and a

few drinks. This is the perfect opportunity to  get

to know your fellow travellers, ask those niggling

questions you may have and ease any stresses

and relax before the party really starts!

Meals Included: You're on your own today.

DAY 1 (FRI)KUTA

Here we go!

The day begins with breakfast followed by a

detailed orientation about your tour. We include

all the useful information you need, the do’s and

don’ts, culture and customs, details about your

day today, and a group Q&A session.

Once you’re up to speed, let us guide you around

the town of Kuta to help you have your bearings

and are able to seek out anything at a moments

notice.

Following the tour, we’ll transfer to one of the

islands most popular must-do’s, a beautiful spot

overlooking the ocean at Padang Padang Beach

and Uluwatu cliffs. You can enjoy some lunch if

you desire or sit back and admire the scenery.

This is a tour highlight and we’re sure you’ll be

blown away.

Our day together concludes with a proper sunset

Kecak dance, and the official welcome meal

before heading back to Kuta for a fun night on

the town.

Meals Included: Breakfast and Dinner.

DAY 2 (SAT)KUTA

Page 5: BALI DISCOVER - We Are Bamboo … · discover bali do you know what to pack? the all in one travel hack your complete itinerary from day 1 to day 12 y@h edition hints tips info and

This morning we have a treat for you, we're going

to teach you the art of Balinese cooking. You'll

learn how to mix flavours and create some

traditional dishes that you can take home and

share with your friends and family. Once we're

finished up and enjoyed our lunch we’ll head

north to the hills surrounding Indonesia’s artisan

and cultural hub of Ubud. Ubud is in many ways

Bali's cultural heart, the location of the magical

movie Eat, Pray, Love, and once here you’ll

understand why this is such a spiritual place to

be. Thanks to Bali’s narrow roads, transfer time is

between 60 minutes to 2 hours.

Once checked into our new accommodation we’ll

meet up in the cafe for a refresher on our time

here. We’ll point out the local points of interest

and answer any questions that you have.

You’ll have some time to explore locally and grab

a bite to eat before we venture deep into the

Monkey forest. Ubud Monkey Forest, also known

as the Sacred Monkey Forest of Padangtegal, is

one of Ubud’s most sacred places; a natural forest

sanctuary that is home to around 400 grey long-

tailed macaques, be sure to leave your bananas at

home.

Meals Included: Breakfast

DAY 3 (SUN)UBUD

There’s no better way to experience the stunning

jungle backdrop of Ubud than to feast on the

most amazing views from the Ayung River. This is

serious fun, but you may get wet as we raft our

way down a few lazy rapids!

Once dried off, and we’ve finished laughing at the

hilarious stories you’ve created, we know you’ll be

ravenous so lunch is included for you.

Day four then continues with a top-down

(weather permitting!), VW jeep tour through the

jungles of Ubud to the rice terrace, coffee

plantation and we’ll give the chance to try out an

incredible, heart-stopping swing! This is a true

spectacle.

From there, via the volcano of Kintamani, it’s on to

the Tirta Empul/Water Temple . This complex

dates back over 1,000 years and is the site of a

traditional tale of Good vs Evil. The legendary

pond inside the inner courtyard at Tirta Empul

temple is said to have magical healing powers. As

stunning as it is interesting, a visit to Ubud

without a visit to Tirta Empul, doesn’t count!

Meals Included: Breakfast and Lunch.

DAY 4 (MON)UBUD

Page 6: BALI DISCOVER - We Are Bamboo … · discover bali do you know what to pack? the all in one travel hack your complete itinerary from day 1 to day 12 y@h edition hints tips info and

itinerary

Our adventure continues today with a visit to The

Lake Temple of Pura Ulun Dhanu. But that’s not

all! Time to swap your flip flops for sturdier shoes

as we tramp through dense jungle, clambering

over rocks and duck under lush green canopies

hunting for Bali’s hidden waterfalls. This is a trek

that should be on everyone's bucket list. It’s

certainly on ours!

Luckily for all of Bamboo’s adventurous souls, Bali

is home to more than 13 of these hidden gems,

many of which are off the beaten track and

unknown to the tourist crowds. Go on, jump right

in, and follow us.

On the way here we’ll have a chance to visit the

stunning UNESCO World Heritage rice paddies

that sit proudly on the sides of a very steep ravine.

This is one of Bali’s most incredible monuments

to ancient engineering that has not only

withstood the tests of time but has astounded

visitors from around the world for hundreds of

years.

Meals Included: Breakfast and Lunch.

DAY 5 (TUES)UBUD

Time to say goodbye to Ubud as we’re on the

move again today to one of Bali’s most exotic

neighbouring islands, Nusa Penida.

‘Penida’, as it’s referred to, is known for being a

part of Bali that remains untouched, a place

overgrowing with unspoiled natural beauty.

Home to empty, yet stunning, white sand

beaches surrounded by a dramatic landscape,

Penida is a place for you to really relax and where

we’ll spend time giving back to the Balinese

culture and people.

From Ubud we’ll travel to the town of Sanur to

catch the fast boat across the strait. Arriving in the

early afternoon, we’ll then transfer to our

supported project base and get up to speed with

the project work. Learn how things will take place

over the next few days and grab a spot of lunch.

After lunch we’ll head down to the beach for a

swim before helping out with a much needed

beach clean.

This evening there’ll be a welcome BBQ so we

can all have a chat about what lies ahead with

the team we’ll be working with.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

DAY 6 (WED)PENIDA

Page 7: BALI DISCOVER - We Are Bamboo … · discover bali do you know what to pack? the all in one travel hack your complete itinerary from day 1 to day 12 y@h edition hints tips info and

itinerary

Penida really is a stunning location, brimming

with local culture and customs. It’s a place that’s

managed to fend off the ever-encroaching threats

of tourism and has remained true to everything

that has made Indonesia such a beautiful

archipelago.

Of course, without the ‘Tourist Dollar’ arriving on

the island, the population has remained largely

poor. Eeking a living from farming of fruits and

rice to live hand to mouth. Because of this

meagre income, many areas that need financial

assistance have suffered. The work that Bamboo

is doing will help to ensure that Penida can

develop and care for its wildlife, cottage industries

and supporting eco-culture.

For those of you who are keen to know more

about the local marine life, or simply love the

ocean, you’re in for a genuine, once-in-a-lifetime

treat! Join in with the Marine Workshops and

you’ll have the opportunity to swim, snorkel or

dive with Manta Rays and sharks! You can also

learn about the coral reef conservation projects

and how the survey dives work! This really has it

all and is a genuinely incredible opportunity to

help support the ocean.

We’ll team up in a series of workshops to learn

more about the work being carried out and the

work that’s required, learn about the mangroves

and how they affect life on and around the island

and much more.

With the knowledge learned, we’ll head out in to

the field, joining various projects and really

getting stuck in with the development here. Your

help is vital in ensuring that this project and all of

the goals on the island are met and it all remains

truly sustainable. Your help is essential.

For good measure we’ll also throw in a cooking

class where you can learn the local culinary skills.

We know there are some budding Gordon

Ramsay’s out there, so once we’ve cooked it, we’ll

eat it!

Meals Included: Breakfast everyday. Other meals

vary depending on your day and location.

DAY 7 - 9 (THURS - SAT)PENIDA

Page 8: BALI DISCOVER - We Are Bamboo … · discover bali do you know what to pack? the all in one travel hack your complete itinerary from day 1 to day 12 y@h edition hints tips info and

itinerary

DAY 10 (SUN) PENIDA

Today we’ll really get out and about and explore

Penida from both the ocean and the land. This

morning we have a boat trip out to some of the

best snorkel sites in Indonesia. Be prepared to

be blown away by the incredible marine life that

surrounds the island; Manta Ray, turtles, sharks

to name just a few.

Once back on the island, we’ll grab some lunch

before heading off to visit some more of

Penida’s best locations. These include Klingking

Beach, Angel Billabong, Broken beach and

more. This really is an island of natural wonders,

so bring your camera and be your spare

batteries!

This will be an incredible day, that’s guaranteed.

And to make it even more memorable, once

we’re back at the accommodation, showered

and freshened up, we’ll arrange a final night

BBQ for everybody to join and swap stories of

who spied the biggest Manta, who got the best

selfie!

Meals Included: Breakfast and Dinner.

This morning after breakfast, we’ll be saying

goodbye to our hosts and catching the fast boat

back to Bali island. We know what you’re thinking,

and we don't want it to end either!

We plan to arrive back to where it all began in the

early afternoon. So once we’re checked in you’ll

have time to head off for some last minute retail

therapy, lounge by the pool, take another dip in

the sea or hit the bars.

As with everything Bamboo does, there’s always

plenty of time for a party! So tonight we’ll get our

glad rags on, hit the town and make it one to

never forget!

Meals Included: Breakfast.

DAY 11 (MON)KUTA

The trip may have only been twelve days, but it’s

twelve days that will live long in the memory -

guaranteed! There’ll be plenty of time for that

final ‘Bali Crew’ team photo, lots of hugs, hi-5’s,

and no doubt, a few tears - and that’ll just be from

our guides!

Beyond that, we’ll help you arrange any transport

to your next stop — be it to the airport, bus

terminal, shipyard, dragon’s den, wherever. Safe

travels.

Meals Included: Breakfast.

The currency in Bali is known asthe Indonesian Rupiah or IDR

Remember to tell your bank that youare leaving the country to avoid yourcard being suspended

When it comes to advice on how much money to

bring, it’s impossible to say. All our intrepid explorers

are very different. Where some go all out, others are

on a budget. You can find both high end and

budget restaurants, bars and shops across Bali. A

rough guide for meals and drinks can be found

below:

Typical exchange rates are:

$1 - 13,000 IDR£1 - 18,000 IDR

ATMs, or cash machines, are prevalent throughout

Bali and will issue the local currency. If you do

plan on bringing your ATM card with you, we

recommend that you inform your bank.

This should prevent your card from being

suspended due to irregular withdrawals.

We don’t recommend bringing traveller's cheques

with you. The reason is that banks across Bali have

odd hours of operating, and it may cause

unnecessary hassle finding a bank open when you

wish to make a transaction.

If you do bring your own currency in cash please

ensure you change this to IDR before departing the

airport.

Negotiating a purchase, known as bartering, still

happens in the tourist areas of Bali however not so

much outside of these areas.

If you’re unsure as to whether or not you can barter

for a discount please speak to your guide.

FAST FACTS: GUIDES

GUIDES

Any tour is only as good as the guide – fact. The input

of a tour guide cannot be understated. Their input

into your tour, their little insights, the off-the-beaten-

track adventures, the knowledge and experiences

that they share with you will make or break your time

wherever you are in the world.

At Bamboo, we take the selection and training of our

guides and coordinators very seriously. Each guide

undertakes a structured training program of three

months and only once we’re convinced that they are

genuine representatives of Bamboo are they signed

up to the family.

Each of our tours has English-speaking guides to

support you, answer your questions, educate you and

to ensure that your time is unforgettable. From time

to time we may have new guides-in-training on our

tours. If you’re lucky to have a trainee on your tour,

please be patient. They are undergoing training and

therefore their knowledge won’t be that of the

trained and experienced guide who will be

accompanying them.

TIPPING

Although not in any way expected or encouraged,

anybody who goes over and above the call of duty to

ensure that you have the very best time, may deserve

a special little thank you.

Did you have extra special service in a restaurant? Did

the bus driver make an additional pit-stop just for

you? Did your guide go out of the way so that you

could experience something unique? At Bamboo

we’re firm believers in Karma – what goes around

most definitely comes around!

Our guides are the face of Bamboo,

and they come in all shapes and

smiles.

We love each and every one of them

more than Elephants love bananas.

Whilst most of them are elite travel

mavericks in their own right, you may

come across newbies who are on the

path the greatness.

If you're lucky enough to meet a

fresh-faced newbie, be sure to show

them your support and patience,

most guides remember their first

tours forever, so let's play nice.

YOUR PROJECT GUIDE

Indo Ocean Project was founded by marine biologist, dive instructors, and ocean

Education and awareness is the foundation of conservation so we have developed

training and expedition programs to allow the general public to get their hands

dirty and get involved. You don’t need to be a diver or a scientist to get involved, our

project relies on the experience and expertise of our volunteers from around the

world to take action and take part.
