Limited (BBCL) welcomes you,
as a supervisor, to this project.
We believe that without your
input and skills, we as a Company
would not achieve our aims or
objectives, which are being able to
conduct our business without
causing harm to people or the
environment.
We deliver standards well in
excess of the legal minimum on all
of our projects and it is important
that you are aware of them from
the outset.
We understand that as a
supervisor you are an integral part
of the success of this site. You are
someone who is able to control,
organise, direct and set operatives
to work in a safe and efficient
manner.
Our commitment to safety
Our commitment to safety is non-negotiable; it comesat the top of our priority list and should not be
compromised under any circumstances.
� Organise, manage and plan
your work in line with
programme requirements
� Be approachable and
responsive with the ability to
communicate clearly and
effectively
� Be motivated and be able to
motivate others to work
safely
� Have knowledge, experience
and a positive attitude
towards safety
� Understand risk management,
especially in relation to the
tasks being undertaken
� Hold a Supervisor CSCS card
and the CITB 5-Day SMSTS
qualifications or acceptable
equivalent
� Stop work on any activity
which you cannot accomplish
safely.
� Recognise good health and
safety in the workplace as
being integral to the overall
success of the project
� Brief your operatives on safe
systems of work such that
they understand and adhere
to the specified control
measures
� Recognise that health and
safety is everybody’s
responsibility and that you,
and all line managers, lead by
example
� Show a positive attitude to
improving health and safety
� Contribute proactively at
HSEQ co-ordination and
progress meetings
What we expect from you

Understand that all accidents are preventable.
As an important and valued member of the site team,
we expect you as a supervisor to:
� Allow work to start on
unplanned activities
� Set operatives to work in
unsafe areas
� Allow work to start without a
suitable and sufficient risk
assessment
� Use untrained/unskilled
workers
� Use uncertified, unsafe,
plant/equipment
� Do not inform and instruct on
safe systems and controls
� Condone breaches of site
rules and legal requirements
� Do not react to unsafe acts
and conditions.
Your company has agreed to support us in delivering
our safety standards and will have fully briefed you on
these prior to coming to site. If you have any concerns
in this respect please discuss and resolve them with
your line manager or the Project Manager on site.

What we expect from you
Anyone appointed as a supervisor has legal duties on behalf of
themselves, those for whom they supervise and anyone else likely to
be affected by their acts or omissions - in the areas for which they
have been made responsible. You as an individual (supervisor) could
be subject to personal legal action if you knowingly:
� Holding Health, Safety,
Environmental and Quality
meetings
� Listen and, where
appropriate, take action on
your concerns
� Operating an “open door”
policy
� We will work with you in
coordinating our activities
on site to create a safer
working environment
� Provide regular feedback to
you on your queries and
concerns
� Involve you in project
briefing and initiatives.
You can rely on BBCL to:
� Support you in safety initiatives
and promotions
� Encourage you to express your
views on safety issues
� Respect you as a competent
person
� Listen to you on all
suggestions - there is no such
thing as a bad idea
� Provide you with the support
you need from the project
management team to help you
deliver these objectives
� Regard you as a highly valued
member of the site team.
