ou t of control stretching in excess of 200 miles . We encounteredone truck on the roadwayjftV/bur ningother bimi ed out vehicleswere also scattered a l on g t h e way.

We would t ravel a few miles an d M ad o n n a would comment Itlooks like it isout}' only to soon see a new red glowin th e distance. Finally, there was a road block complete with truckers wanting toknow if t heycould get through. Ou r only answer was, You ha dbetter wait un t i l morning * Ou r ordeal was over, at ou r backs wasover 20 0 miles of a fiery inferno. Ahead the border of Guatemala.

    o m m o n sense d ic ta ted t h a t w e n e ve r e n te r t h e flames. We weretrapped before we knew it. Go d carried us through.

After a welcomed rest in Ikpachula i t was o n t o Guatemala onSaturday, March 22nd. One side trip was necessary first. MiguelRojas i s a Mex ican preacher working alone o n t he b o rd e r wi thGuatemala. He ha s been in Cachoatan Chiapas for 12 years an dha s es tab l ished several d i ffe ren t works.

Because of h is iso lat ion I f el t compelled to visit an d leave some

evangelistic materials with him. Immediately after carrying in tw oboxes of materials, i t was called t o o u r attention that his daughterha d dreamed the night before that some Americans weregoing tovisit an d leave two boxes of papers.

His ministry was an inspiration to us. In 12years and a minimalamount of helpf rom th e United States, a respectable building ha dbeen bui lt . All work was donated by the church members, andalmost all of the funds were generated locally.

    We l e a rn e d a b o u t th e f r o n t d o o r s t h e c h u r c h ha d b e e n r o b b e dand solid doors were needed for security. The membership ralliedo th e cause. Everyone said they would give up something an d

donate the savings for the doors. One man gave up bread fo r twomonths. Th e funds were soon raised a nd t he doors installed.

Before leaving, Miguel thanked us for the literature an d commented thatone young ma n was converted through a booklet whichI had l ef t 17 months earlier. This young man has now made t h edecision to enter Bible college.

Th e remainder of the t rip to Honduras was relatively uneventful. Both subsequent border crossingswent well. For want of a cupof ice cream, we arrived 5 minutes late at the port of entry intoHonduras. I was kind of thankfulexhaustion was setting in an d

t was s ti ll 5 hours to S a n P ed ro Sula, Honduras. In Honduras we were prevailed upon to t ransport onemember

of the Honduran military from a road b lock to h is home fur therdown the road. After an all night shift, he settled in on top of boxesn t h e b ack of the pick-up and went to sleep. Before leaving him

at his home town, he graciouslyaccepted one of the New Tbstamentswhich we were carrying.

Upon bur arrival in San Pedro Sula, the 4-wheel drive Toyotapick-up >\4s immediately put into service. Because of light rain, the 4-whed drivewasneed^ getting inand out ofMadonna'sclinic.MadonnaSias begun SundaySchool classes in the CatholicChurchadjoining^heclinic.Theyhave even givenherasetofkeysforthebuilding Following evening church services in town, six membersof the congregation were transported home in Madonna's longawaited t^uck. Inauguration day had arrived.

In Mexico many missionaries expressed concern about availabilityof parts and service for the unit. Madonna did her homework.Similar vehicles are abundant, both parts and service should beaccessible: Madoima requests your prayers for her,the medicalworkand for good service from her new vehicle. Finally after one yearof waiting, it is now in use in the mountains of Honduras.

I flewout of Honduras on the day that Nicaragua invaded theborder of, Honduras. Central America is still open to the Gospeland movement is not heavily restricted. Much more needs to bedone if we are to stem the t ide of rebellion an d revolution whichis festering in this trouble-filled area of the world.

So much for what seems to be the glamorousyou may thinki t was glamorous to travel by land into Central Americato meit was work, enjoyablebut work Spanish American Evangelismis movingahead with literature distribution in Spanish. Over325thousand tractshavebeencompleted so far this year. Another 200thousand tracts have been started, and paper is on hand for overa hal f a million other t rac ts .

I knowthat soundsgood but thereis another side of theministryyou needto understand. General fund income isdown approximately 23% overthe first four months of last year. We are currentlyshort on supplies, and haveseveral boxes of literature ready to beshipped but waiting postage. We recently completed several different commercial projects to help with the cash flow and getmovingonce again in the production of evangelistic materials inSpanish.

Millions of pieces of literature have been shipped out fromSpanish American Evangelism during the past few years, and itis like throwing water at an enormous dry sponge Weare continuallygetting requests for more materialsand are doing the bestwe can t o keep up with the situation.

Werecently receiveda letter from the state of Sonora, Mexico, and the followingexcerpts wereparticulary interesting (my translation): .. .Various tracts of yours have made their way into myhands. I would l ike to say that they are a great b lessing to thosewho read them. . . I am asking for some biblical materials concerning baptism and myresponsibilities as a baptized believer... I am

asking for whatever you have that might be free becauselimited economic resource Bu t God i s i n charge of paywith real blessings ' Letters like that keep us inspired to cowith the ministry which God has placed in ou r hands.

Dear Friends of the Baker Family,Once again, it is my privilege to be able to say greetings in the name of

our wonderful Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ . We praise God for all o f ourfriends who continue to lift up the Baker family in prayer as we serve atSpanish Amer ican Evangelism in El Paso, Texas.

As I look at the calendar I can hardly believe that it is the first of Octoberalready. Summer was very fruitful for the Baker s. Rosa attended the Hispanic-American National Convention in Los Angeles during June. I was unableto make it, so she and th e three youngest children represented S.A.E. at thatgathering. She mentioned upon her return to El Paso that she didn t knowthat so many Mexican people knew who I was I asked her where she thoughtI had been working for 13 years. One m an from Mexico City sought he r outjust to say thank-you to me for supplying him literature for a recent campaign.

We could use some help in the church remodeling project. Thanks to a foundation in San Antonio, the funds are ava ilab le for the materials. What is nowneeded are hands to make it all come together. If you are retired and capableof that type of project, please contact us. Also, hands are always neededaround the print shop in folding, stapling and trimming tracts and booklets.

Raul Martinez has been spending the last two weeks with us. He worksin the office fo r approximately two weeks at a time in editing and preparingmanuscripts for printing. Yesterday, October 7th, we worked until almost midnight and completed th e text layout for two different books. T vo b oo ks onone day sounds good, but it doesn t take into consideration the many weeksof work done previously. College Press of Joplin, Missouri has already published two books which were prepared for printing by S pa ni sh Am er ic anEvangelism. Tvo more will soon be published. We will print here 5,000 copiesof Discipling fo r Jesus by Bus Wiseman in Spanish and College Press willpublish f You Want to Preach by Don DeWelt. These two tit les will be addedto Thirteen Lessons in Christian Doctrine by Denver Sizemore and That TheyMay Be Won by Frank Winder. Spanish American Evangelism is happy tobe able to assist our brotherhood in the preparation of these materials inSpanish. Several other titles and themes are currently in various stages ofproduction.

The kids are back in school. Billy is now in high school 9t h grade , Barbieis in 5 th , F ra nc es in 1st. C al eb wan ts to be in school but will have to waittw o m ore years .

Please be in prayer fo r the family as we continue to work in the area ofSpanish Christian literature distribution. We would not be able to continuewithout your ongoing prayer and financial support. Finances have beenextremely low d ur in g t he past two months. I have been allowed a salary o f 2,500.00 per month by the trustees of Spanish American Evangelism. Duringthe first eight months of 1986 our designated income averaged 2,311.04, moreor less in line with th e allowed income. In September that figure droppedto only 1,052.98, our lowest month since May of 1982. We ask yo ur prayersas God continues to supply our needs.

Early this year, a t ea m f ro m Platte Valley Bible College traveled with Rosa, some local Christians and 1 to the area o f Namiquipa, Chihuahua, Mexico.During that week of evangel ism New Testaments were given to every homein four different communities. 1 just learned f rom Vic tor Terrazas the na tiona levangelist who accompanied us that six i nd iv id ua ls f ro m the area have invitedhim to come and baptize them. Please be in prayer for their continued growthand the continued effectiveness of th e students and faculty of PVBC duringthe i r n n u l excurs ion i n t o Mex ico .
