livery. It also adds “cor-rectly moved” pieces tothe mailing to help avoidUSPS assessments. Tofurther minimize poten-tial USPS Move Updateassessments, EII is add-ing a Move Update re-port to document themakeup of the mailingby customer. In theevent of a Move Update

assessment, this report furnishes the necessary documentation at accep-tance to achieve a reduction on the overall assessment if problems arespecific to a certain customer’s mailing. The EII Move Update solutioncloses the loop by providing complete documentation of updated ad-dresses back to the customer so that the addresses can be corrected at thesource.

WIDE AREA READER (WABCR): EII’s new barcode reading appli-cation on the EZ-Flats console reads up to five distinct barcodes with eachaddress. Presorters may use this functionality to ensure that a second IMBis not printed on mail that has an address block IMB. When address blockIMBs are detected, the EZ-Flats system uses that IMB in the manifest andprovides reports to accompany the 3553indicating which customer’s mailhad address block IMBs. The new barcode reading software also providesservice bureaus with additional revenue opportunities. WABCR can beconfigured to read a wide variety of barcode symbologies and output thatdata for proof of processing.Data read by the barcode software can evenbe used to populate the sequence number in the IMB. This allows custom-ers using OneCode Confirm to look up the pieces via the USPS Confirmprogram.

EZ-FLATS ESSENTIAL: The introductory model for the EZ-Flats sys-tem, Essential is geared for daily runs of 500-2000 flats. This version en-ables mailers with lower flats volumes to achieve high levels of profit-ability with a low initial capital outlay. As volumes increase, users can di-rectly upgrade to the Enhanced or Premium models, as described below. The Essential solution features best- of-class OCR technology and workswith Parascript and/or RAF Platinum. Its server based configuration en-ables several EZ-Flats machines to work in parallel for processing highervolumes. The system installs easily in an afternoon and operators are upto speed in15 minutes. A touch screen monitor provides easy access toboth workstation computer and server. The system also includes labelprinter and barcode scanner for automatic customer chargeback.

EZ-FLATS ENHANCED: Designed for daily flats volumes in the2000-4000 range, Enhanced utilizes the same workstation as Essentialbut adds Engineering Innovation’s patent-pending Dynamic Sort soft-ware/sorting technique. At the heart of the EZ-Flats process is the elimi-nation of secondary passes even when sorting to the 5d level with bun-dle-based mailings (Note: bundle based mailings achieve much higherdiscount levels as they only require ten mail pieces to achieve the auto-mated discount level, versus the 90 required for tray-based preparation).Utilizing a patent-pending technology, Dynamic Sort identifies the tenthpiece the instant it is read by the OCR and then dynamically reassigns arouting designation for the maximum discount. This greatly reduces theamount of time required to finalize the mailing at the end of the day’s run.In addition, Dynamic Sort provides a road map for correctly packagingthe mail to meet USPS requirements.

EZ FLATS PREMIUM: Premium is the EZ-Flats full processing sys-tem and is used by mailers with higher daily flats volumes (3000 and up).Premium ships with the Dynamic Sort software and adds automation with

a label applicator, conveyor, and eight automated pockets (expandable forquick kills on higher-volume runs). The system can process at a rate of upto 2000 flats per hour.

EZ OCR WORKSTATION: The EZ OCR Workstation resolves theeDoc and IMpB requirement for mail processors. The Workstation auto-mates the keying process by leveraging OCR technology to capture ad-dress information, print and IMpB label, and generate postal complianteDocumentation. EZ OCR allows operations to realize enhancedthroughput. When compared to traditional manual keying stations, andgenerate required documentation.

THE EZ WORKDESK: In 2013 EII introduced the EZ WorkDesk forautomated parcel processing — featuring IMpb (Intelligent Mail PackageBarcode) compliance, an OCR, and laser dimensioning. This versatilemailroom application is the most cost effective solution for rapid induc-tion into the USPS package shipping network. OCR technology enablesrapid Intelligent Mail Package Barcode (IMpb) production for new USPSspecifications.Configurable Wide Area Bar Code Reader captures up tofive separate barcodes on a single package. Dimensioning feature cap-tures length, width, and height for USPS Cubic packages and other Di-mensioning requirements. Leveraging its industry-leading technology for“reading”mailpiece information, the EZ WorkDesk features best of classcapability for collecting package information.

sorter, sorted and trayed along withother mail allowing for a greaterpostage discount. Today, Omegasare additionally being used by mar-keting, banking, and insurance com-panies to barcode their outgoingmailings and to sort incoming lettersfor internal distribution. The low ini-tial cost and fast ROI, coupled withreduced manpower requirements,

makes the OMEGA an asset in any company’s mailroom. Additionalstackers maybe added in five-pocket increments up to 18 pockets (three5-pocket stacker Modules) before the OMEGA becomes stationary. Ifgreater than18 pockets are needed, additional power inputs are required.

VSORT: The Vsort is NPI’s product solution to mailers that need the ca-pabilities to sort mail pieces up to one-half inch thick. The double-sidedMixed Mail MLOCR / BCR Sorter has an operational throughput of up to24,000 mail pieces per hour. Modular design is also incorporated into theVsort allowing output Stacker Modules to be provided in either a normalpocket or a chute configuration.

XSTREAM: The XStream has the ability to sort flats and parcels of up to70 lbs. to different bin destinations such as tubs, sacks and gondolas.Withits ergonomic design, the XStream is perfect for any processing environ-ment. The XStream has a throughput of up to 30,000 flats/parcels perhour.

Optional Components, Features & Upgrades:

DECIPHER OCR: Used in high volume outbound and incoming mailapplications, Decipher OCR is entirely software based. Installed on anautomated mail-sorting machine, the Decipher scans 4" (Letters)and10.5” (Flats) vertically, starting at the bottom of the mail pieceand11.5" horizontally. It optically reads and interprets eight lines of theaddress block on machine printed mail. Decipher then converts the infor-mation and encodes the envelope with a barcode. With Decipher, highvolume mailers achieve higher percentages of barcoded mail, which in-creases postal discounts and maximizes the efficiency of your mail opera-tion.The multi-font reader increases read rates by virtue of recognizing awider range of font sizes and styles, including sizes from 8 - 17 points anda pitch range from 8 to 15 (optimum 10 -12 pitch) including proportionalfonts. For additional read improvements, a PLUS version is available.

WIDE AREA BARCODE READER: NPI’s purely software-basedbarcode reader is Omni-directional; meaning the reader can detect andread a barcode in any position, even upside down! Scanning 4" (let-ters)and 10.5” (flats) vertically, starting at the bottom of the mailpiece, and the length of the envelope horizontally, allows you the flexibil-ity of detecting and reading address block barcodes and barcodes placedin the lower right corner of the mail piece. This state of the art, soft-

ware-based technology provides an inexpensive means to upgrade yoursystem. Having new technology is as easy as loading a disk!

BARCODE VERIFIER: This option verifies that the correct, readablebarcodes are printed on the mail piece in the correct barcodearea.Photocells are strategically placed to track the mail piece down thetransport system to the correct pocket. The WABCR Verifier providesadditional checking between multiple barcodes located on the envelope.

IN LINE THICKNESS DETECTOR: This feature allows you to setthickness criteria to sort mail. Thicker mail can be diverted to a pocket tocull out multiple payments or those with correspondence attached.

ENVELOPE OPENING MODULE: The Envelope Opening Moduleis an option installed on a Mail Processing System to selectively open en-velopes. The decision to cut, or not to cut, is set up in the customer data-base or in the sort plan. A Commercial Grade Vacuum is used to removethe paper dust created from the cutting operation.BIN DISPLAYS: Im-prove the accuracy of your bin sweepers by adding vacuum fluorescentdisplay units to display ZIP Code information based on sort scheme foreach pocket. Actual size of display is 1" x 3"and displays 2 lines of 16characters.

QUICK DATE: Redate your mail on the fly by simply adding our QuickDate system to your OCR/BCR.

ON-DEMAND BARCODED TRAY TAG PRINTER: Tags on de-mand,just push a button at the pocket of choice and the tray tag is printedautomatically.

OFF LINE TRAY LABEL PRINTER: A separate printer for the print-ing of barcoded tray labels.

TRAY RACKS: Stack sorted mail easily and efficiently using NPI trayracks. Ergonomic design reduces muscle fatigue while transferring mail-ings to trays. Software Upgrades and Options:

FASTFORWARD (U.S. MAIL ONLY): With Classification Reform, the USPS implemented a Move Update requirement for all automatedFirst Class mail. In order to meet this requirement, you must pass all ad-dresses through a USPS approved address update application within sixmonths of the time of mailing. To meet the needs of the mailing industry, the USPS developed FASTForward, an MLOCR-based address system.NPI has developed an interface to work with the USPS FASTForward di-rectory. So, every time users send out a mailing, they know it will havethe most recent address information available and the POSTNET barcodefor new addresses. The new street address will also be printed on the lineimmediately above the barcode location. Users will provide faster maildelivery for their customers, eliminate the need to send mailing lists out toa third party for updates and avoid costly Address Correction Requested(ACR) charges.

COMBINED MAILING SOFTWARE: Add flexibility to your mailoperation by having the option to commingle metered mail, permit mailand pre-canceled stamps with NPI’s software. This software allows usersthe flexibility to enter different postage rates and postage payment meth-ods in one mailing. No need to worry about generating mailing state-ments, as the reports generated by this software will meet all the stringentrequirements of the Postal Service.

MANIFESTING/WEIGH ON THE FLY: This option allows sortingto take place with multiple weight mail pieces in one mailing. A requiredmanifesting report would then be generated to the USPS with the infor-mation on the different weights of the mail pieces within the mailing. Themanifesting option is perfect for companies that have high volume mailpieces that are not the same weight. Manifesting/Weigh on the fly is anexcellent alternative to metering.
