The existing Dasht-e-Shor Road has thin layer of gravel in very poor condition with lots of depression and potholes, always muddy and very difficult to drive during winter or rainy days. The drainage system existing on both sides are also in poor condition. In order to provide better access for people, goods and social services; the reduction of vehicle operating cost; reduction in dust pollution and flood; and to improve safety, comfort and durability, the road will be upgraded to a bituminous surface. Main items of the project are engineering survey, design and construction. This includes topographic survey, geotechnical survey, traffic count assessment and pavement design; design and construction of mortared stone masonry side drainage, road crossing and access way slab culverts as well as installation of pavement markings and signs. The project is co-financed by the German Development Bank KfW, in the scope of the German Development Cooperation with Afghanistan, and will be implemented through the Regional Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF). Afghan contractors and international contractors with a base in Afghanistan with experience as General Contractors in the design and construction of roads and associated structures preferably in Northern Afghanistan are herewith invited to apply for prequalification for above project. International contractors are explicitly encouraged to form Joint Ventures with national/local contractors. Tendering will be undertaken according to KfW-Development Bank’s Guidelines for Procurement of Goods, Works and associated Services in Financial Cooperation with Partner Countries” (May 2007, last updated in September 2013), which can be downloaded at https://www.kfw-entwicklungsbank.de/Download-Center/PDF-Dokumente-Richtlinien/Vergabe-E.pdf.
