ART OSAKA 2019 5 fri - 7 sun July 2019

ART OSAKA 2019 will hold its 17th installment, on the weekend of July 6th and 7th (preview on Friday, July 5th) on the 26th floor of Hotel Granvia Osaka. The venue is directly accessible from JR Osaka station. ART OSAKA is one of the biggest art fairs in Japan with a focus on contemporary art. This year, 54 galleries will participate, from both Japan and abroad (23 from the Kansai region, 26 from the non-Kansai regions, 4 from Taiwan, and 1 from Korea). 7 galleries will participate in ART OSAKA for the first time. 69 hotel rooms will be turned into exhibition booths. The most appealing aspect of this fair is that a wide range of artworks from painting, sculpture, photograph, print, to installation by upcoming young artists, mid-career artists and internationally renowned artists are presented in the hotel rooms. The guests can purchase works they like on the spot. How about building a new relationship with art by starting your own art collection? Again this year, we will hold “The Best Presentation Award”, which was well-received last year. Many art centers have been established throughout Japan. Art centers are multi-cultural institutions, whose functions differ from museums. There are various art centers in the Kansai region; the Kobe Art Village Center (opened in 1996), Kyoto Art Center (opened in 2000), and Enokojima Art, Culture and Creative Center, Osaka Prefecture/enoco (opened in 2012). Takarazuka Arts Center which will be open in Hyogo Prefecture in April 2020, will be added to the list. We will invite organizers of these art centers to come together and hold a symposium to discuss ideals and dreams for the future art centers.

Kyoto City University of Arts “KCUA Transmit Program : ART OSAKA Version”

ART OSAKA, in collaboration with Kyoto City University of Arts, will hold a special exhibition to introduce promising young artists. For our seventh installment, we will exhibit the works of four artists; Gaku Kurokawa (sculpture), Haru Teraoka (environmental design), Yukari Motoyama (painting) and Mamie Yamamoto (ceramics). Please come and feel the bursting energy of the young artists.
