MYSTERY GAME SYNOPSIS It is the year 2099, and the demented Genesee Glasco, a quintillionaire heiress and first world ruler, is hosting

the ultimate retro gala. The steampunk-themed affair will be held at the awe-inspiring Hematite Palace in the world’s new capital – Glasco Megalopolis. Using her newest invention created by a collective effort from the world’s top scientists, she has hand-selected her guests from past icons, legends and even infamous villains.

The denizens of the world have been on the edge of their seats watching the planning stages of the first world-wide extravaganza unfold on their nuclearvision devices! For the past sixteen days, the befuddled faces of the honorary guests have been publicized as they endured the excruciating journey from the past to the main platform of the Time Travel Epicenter of Glasco Megalopolis. The historical attendees have not been briefed on why they were brought into the future, and are being isolated in unknown locations within Diamond City while they await the night of celebration.

Nobody knows what Genesee specifically has planned for the gala, but this party is undeniably a world’s first. Regrettably, you are one of the icons that have suffered through the painful transport from the past. You feel disoriented and are quite mystified why you have been brought to this strange, wondrous place and why they are not allowing you to leave. This is where your story begins.

RENJI BON Former

U.S. President

2060-2098

REQUIRED Male

President Renji Bon was the final U.S. President in history. Upon his unexplained death in the year 2098, Genesee Glasco took over the reigns as not only the new leader of the United States, but of the world. UVEY XO Physicist

2040-2065

REQUIRED

Female

Uvey Xo is a well-known physicist that departed this world well before her time at a young age of 25 years. Rumor has it that Rufus Glasco, Genesee’s late father, hired an assassin to execute Uvey because she refused to work for him to create the world’s first time machine. Somewhat a political genius, Ivan was able to turn 16th century Russia into a world superpower. However, he accomplished this feat with the blood of his people.

Regrettably, Chris was dishonored for a period as he was blamed for a smallpox plague in the Americas. *IMPORANT INFORMATION REGARDING CHARACTER ASSIGNMENTS:

Assign your most definite RSVPs and outgoing guests to the required characters and the more tentative, shy/reserved guests for the optional characters. To figure out who will be a ‘definite RSVP’, it is highly suggested to send a ‘save the date’ email out to your prospective guests way in advance of the party date so you can either eliminate those guests from your list who can’t make it (and therefore you will not assign them to a character) or you can change your party date if enough required-character guests simply cannot make it. It’s suggested to invite more than the required number of players as any of the ‘required’ guests could cancel at the last minute and leave you high & dry. You can play as many optional players as you wish and in any combination that you choose. The optional players have the same materials and same participation level, but these optional characters are not ‘mandatory’ for the storyline to play out and therefore for the mystery to be sleuthed appropriately. What happens if one of your required characters cancels on you at the last minute? First, take

a deep breath…it’s not the end of the world.

1. If you have an extra optional player that is coming to the party - give them a call and tell them they’ll need to switch characters. Hopefully, this isn’t the day of the party because no doubt, this player has his/her costume ready. However, you can allow them to wear the costume that they purchased or created, as their nametag will let the other guests know whom they are playing during the party. This is not ideal, obviously, but the required players should be intact for the game experience to be optimal.

HEMATITE PALACE HOST DIRECTIVES

Get ready for a fun time at the Hematite Palace with your purchase of the Back in Time...for Murder game from mymysteryparty.com! This party is an exciting murder mystery where the players act the roles of intriguing personalities while sleuthing the captivating story line. You can never go wrong with a MY MYSTERY PARTY game for any occasion! The party pack (this document) needs to be printed in advance of the party. Cut out the clues, slip them into envelopes labeled with the appropriate round and character for each round of the party. It is optimal to choose different colored envelopes for each round and you can purchase the exact amount needed for your game on the www.MyMysteryparty.com site in the Mystery Prop Emporium section. For economy’s sake, an alternative is to scroll the clues and fasten with a ribbon. Be sure to label the outside of each scroll with the character/round. In these instructions, however, we will assume you are using the envelope method for each character, each round.

FULL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PURCHASED GAME

The game is organized into four rounds and is structured as follows: OPTIONAL PRE-GAME TASKS & STARTERS: these optional pre-game starters are to be delivered to each guest before the party or give them to the guests as they arrive. All pre-game materials are optional and do not alter the mystery and are intended to enhance the pre-game build up for the event. These starters (tasks) are not vital to solving the mystery and omission of them does not alter the mystery in any way. APPETIZER (COCKTAILS 4 ADULTS) HOUR / ROUND ONE: Deliver these clues as your guests arrive. DINNER HOUR / ROUND TWO: Deliver these clues while you serve dinner (optional) to your guests. DESSERT, AND THE BIG REVEAL/ SOLUTION ROUND THREE: Deliver these clues with coffee/hot cocoa and dessert.

Note: you do NOT have to serve dinner, this is only suggested and the instructions tell you ‘when’ to serve it and what to do around the time you serve it. You also do not have to serve dessert – again, it is only a suggestion. You can simply skip both without a problem and just serve snacks/appetizers the entire time.

OPTIONAL PRE-GAME STARTER Before the party, encourage your guests to view the Your Mystery Party -

www.YourMysteryParty.com/backintime website or use the free printable My Mystery Party invitations as they have the character descriptions included and a link (web address) to the Your Mystery Party website. This way, before the party, they can get familiar with the other characters that will be at the party as well as the history of the town and more! There are also hidden/subtle hints about characters throughout the page so those guests who choose to be ‘super sleuths’ can spend some time studying the Your Mystery Party site prior to the party.

FULL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PURCHASED GAME

You can hand these to your guests as they arrive before you give out the round one envelopes. (This

option is not optimal since it is a ticket to the event and pre-game task suggestions that are written such that they are done prior to the arrival at the party. However, if you explain that they were intended to be received a week ago – they can still view them, nonetheless).

ROUND ONE - MEET & MINGLE APPETIZER HOUR Round one – appetizer / cocktail hour begins as the guests arrive. DÉCOR: The party area is supposed to be the Mother of Pearl Ballroom of the Hematite Palace. In other words, any party area is going to be fine to host this party! Optional: make a hotel sign to put in front of your home out of cardboard and PVC pipe for a fun effect. Optional: make a DVD of pictures of your guests to play like a slideshow during your party on the television / projector screen (if there is one in the room). Because the game setting is in a generic ballroom of a hotel, any general party area is suitable. You can make this as elaborate as you wish by creating an authentic ‘entrance’ to your home with a sign that says ‘Welcome to the Hematite Palace New Year’s Eve Bash’ or simply decorate the room as if you are having any type of party with balloons, etc. GUEST ARRIVAL: Appetizers can be served (optional-cocktails for legal-aged adults). The guests’ instructions

OPTIONAL BUT FUN: At the conclusion of this round, play any of the bonus games (see the bonus activity instructions). PROP LIST: These are props needed for this round. Collect these items in advance and have them ready.

If any of the optional games are played, you will need to collect the items needed in advance of the game. Round One Clue cards printed and slipped into envelopes that are labeled and sealed for each character

playing the game.

ROUND TWO – DAUNTING DINNER HOUR PRE-GAME SET UP: In the nearest bathroom, place the following items under the sink - the victim sign (page 40), scotch tape, host supplied white non-toxic face makeup (optional but funny and suggested), and also include the victim t-shirt and / or crime scene tape if you have purchased these items (again, optional but funny and suggested). If there is not a cabinet under the sink, place these items in any location that can be concealed within that bathroom. The victim will be instructed in their clue card for round two to look for it if there is not a cabinet under the sink. The victim will be instructed in their round two clue card – after they have completed the pre-game round &/or after 20 minutes - to go to the nearest restroom to become the victim by applying the white face makeup on their face (optional), using Scotch tape to adhere the victim sign to their chest and if the optional victim t-shirt is available - to put that on (with the victim sign on top) and if the optional authentic crime scene barrier tape is there - to decorate themselves with it. It is hilarious when the guests see the fully decorated victim!

FULL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PURCHASED GAME

THE INVESTIGATION BEGINS: Once the victim is discovered and the laughter dies down, read the sign on his/her chest to the group. Again, you are to pass out the Murder Mystery Party Investigation Sheets (if you haven’t done so already) and give each player a pen/pencil. Encourage the guests to implement their 'post-murder reveal clues' and share truthful information and opinions that they have regarding the murder. This part of the investigation should take about 15 minutes.

FULL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PURCHASED GAME

SURPRIZING SOLUTION ROUND– DESSERT & ‘THE BIG REVEAL’ ACCUSATIONS: After you collect the mystery investigation sheets, allow the guests to one-by-one accuse who they believe the MURDERER is and how they did it. Instruct them to also tell the group their guess of the MURDERER‘S motive. If you are running short on time, the accusations can be skipped and go straight to the solution cards of round three. If you are having an awards ceremony using the awards certificates available on the My Mystery Party site in the mystery props section, you can use this round as the final decision maker on the Best Actor/Actress award.

HELPFUL HINTS ON HOW TO PLAY A MYSTERY PARTY GUEST INSTRUCTIONS

You’ve been assigned a character and you’ve come to the party dressed in the most awesome costume and have been told to play your role. Now what? The mystery is separated into three main rounds of party play. During the party, you will receive an envelope that contains the clues necessary for your character for the round. The clues for the characters at the party provide everything that you need to solve the mystery. However, during the investigation segment of the game, you will need to ask the right questions and pay close attention to everyone’s clues to get the whole picture of what has happened.

FULL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PURCHASED GAME

From this point forward, you are to remain in character until the mystery is solved. If you are playing a ‘hypocritical police officer,’ then that is who you are until the end! Undoubtedly, your host cast you into a character that you are comfortable playing. Some characters are designed to be played more reserved than other characters. Feel free to play your role in any manner that you feel comfortable. Embellish your character’s personality if you would like. However, if you are feeling more reserved tonight, you can opt to allow the other guests to approach you or you can simply listen in on others’ conversations to get your information.

OPTIONAL PRE-GAME TASKS: Cut the task strips out below and slip them into envelopes. Below on the pre-game task sheets, fill in your guests’ preferred contact information (i.e. email, phone) so they will be able to contact each other. IMPORTANT: If any of the optional players are not being played in your game, write ‘DISREGARD THIS TASK’ in the contact information space.

**The sample game has actual character names removed**

Character O OPTIONAL - for some pre-party fun, contact (email, phone, etc.) the following guests in the week leading up to the party: *You are only able to contact the other guests due to a glitch in Genesee’s system – the assistants taking care of you do not respect nor follow Genesee and are trying to ruin her plans…whatever they are. Therefore, the assistants have agreed to coordinate messages to be sent between guests without allowing Genesee to know.

Contact the guest playing Character H and say: “I heard about your execution in 1915. I thought it was unfair the way the French government treated you after what all you did for them during the war.” (Contact info :__________________________________________________________________________) Contact the guest playing Character Y and say: “My Granny had one of your portraits hanging in her cabin. It was a portrait you did of yourself. You are a mighty talented painter.” (Contact info :________________________________) Contact the guest playing Character P and say: “The food here in this place is utterly disgusting! Who eats mushy food out of silver packets? We need some freshly killed hog! Didn’t you used to encourage your people in France to eat cake? Tell these assistants in Diamond City to get us some cake or something!” (Contact info :___________________________________________________________________________)

Please note: either contacting the guests above or deciding to skip these tasks will not alter the mystery or anyone's ability to solve the mystery in anyway. However, contacting other guests will lead to excitement about the party and will encourage other guests to read about the other characters and be prepared for serious fun!

ROUND ONE CLUES – CUT OUT, SLIP INTO ENVELOPES AND LABEL WITH THE CHARACTER AND ROUND.

CHARACTER A – ROUND ONE CLUES TO REVEAL DURING THIS ROUND

During this round, mingle with other guests to discuss the following information with whomever you choose: Tell everybody that the last thing you can remember is going into hiding when the French Revolution began. Your memory is hazy after that and then you showed up here in this strange place. Upon your arrival, there were assistants that escorted you to this place where you remained in isolation for days until this party. They confided in you that not many people are loyal to Genesee Glasco. She is a tyrant and only rules the world because she has most of the money in the world and owns everything and everybody. Talk to Character L about his portraits. You used to have one hanging in your castle back when you were queen.

PERSONAL CLUES TO CONCEAL Your character is the Austrian born Queen of France. You were the youngest queen in history (at 19 years old), and you were a partier and held parties nightly at your personal palace. Your husband (King Lewis XVI) was a ‘stick in the mud’ – he was shy, introverted and didn’t care for social events. With that living arrangement, you created tons of scandal and were accused of being wasteful, uncaring about humanity and even of being unfaithful. As a result of the French Revolution, you met your fate with a guillotine. This new world is entirely strange and you feel as though you are not only in a different time, but on a different planet. You don’t understand any of the technology, slang terminology (even though you were taught English – see below), or customs. Furthermore, you have no idea why you were brought here, but you are intrigued. During your isolation period in Diamond City, you underwent an accelerated English learning course. You can now speak and read English fluently.

During the mystery, your character must be honest and not make up any potentially mystery-altering clues in addition to those provided to you. You do not, however, have to share the clues that you collect with other guests.

ROUND 2 CLUES – CUT OUT, SLIP INTO ENVELOPES AND LABEL WITH THE CHARACTER AND ROUND.

CHARACTER P - ROUND TWO

Pre-Murder Clues Charater M just whispered in your ear that she traveled back in time and put blankets on your three ships that contained a massive amount of the smallpox virus on them. She was the one who transmitted smallpox to the Americas – not you! She set you up and rewrote history because she was bored. You will never forgive her. Speak to others about what Character M has done to you. She tarnished your reputation and changed history to your detriment. See if anybody else has a problem with Character M. You think she is a maniacal tyrant. You strongly believe that Character G can do something wicked at any moment. You can see it in his eyes. If someone was to trigger him, it may be disastrous.

Post-Murder Evidence & Alibi (Blood Type B-) You don’t remember seeing the murder weapon prior to the body being discovered. You snuck into the office earlier just to see what was in there. You are an explorer, you cannot help yourself sometimes. You think it was about 15 minutes prior to the body being discovered. You were gone from the ballroom for about 2 minutes. The victim left the ballroom about 6 minutes prior to the discovery of the body on the floor in the Amethyst Ballroom. You remember seeing Alfred Einstein enter the Mother of Pearl Ballroom from the kitchen. The one who discovered the body may use the ‘discovery’ as a clever cover up.

CHARACTER F FINAL SOLUTION ROUND THREE – READ AFTER CHARACTER Z

When it is your turn, say the following to the group in your best Wild West accent:

“If Genesee had been murdered with a Kentucky rifle, well, I might have been a suspect. But I definitely don’t know how to work those proton guns or whatever they are. I couldn’t have been guilty of this crime. I certainly didn’t like her, though. Anybody that can singlehandedly dismantle the United States that I love, well, she got what she deserved.”

The following characters are to read their solutions next in this order: (Skip over characters that are not guests at this party and go to the next). CHARACTER A, CHARACTER B, CHARACTER C, CHARACTER D, CHARACTER E
