Communication design is a highly creative activity that promotes the exchange of information and ideas, and enhances human interaction. The contemporary designer must be adaptable and skilled in framing messages to reach diverse audiences, from the intimacy of small-scale community projects to campaigns with a global reach.

The degree has been developed in consultation with leading industry experts from London’s communication design sector.

Expert industry speakers offer stimulating lectures on contemporary themes and issues, set live project briefs and help to mentor and guide students’ work on portfolios.

What will I study?

You will learn about a wide range of communication design practices, exploring both traditional and digital visual forms and techniques.

We will encourage you to explore creatively, while honing your skills in finding the right design solution for a particular brief.

You will work on projects and activities that demand your individual vision and skill, and play an active role in group projects, responding to interdisciplinary design problems and solving them together.

You will also develop a specialist area of design practice in illustration, photography, graphics and typography, or digital media.

Your studies will challenge you to think about the kind of things that matter to you as a designer and where you might direct your talents beyond the degree.

Small class sizes and plenty of contact with your teachers will ensure all the support you need to flourish in your own way and prepare for an exciting future in communication design.

What skills will I gain?

Future opportunities

The UK design industry continues to grow and employment prospects are buoyant. The industry employs around a quarter of a million people, with 40% of UK design businesses based in London and the South East.

Your design education will open doors to a career in a wide variety of areas, including advertising, digital media, graphic design, photography, illustration, animation, multi-media, publishing and art direction.

How to apply

For entry, you will need a minimum of two passes at GCE A-level, at grade C or above, and five passes at GCSE/ IGCSE level at grade C or above, including English (or other equivalent qualifications). You must also have successfully completed GCSE Mathematics.

We also offer a one-year Design Foundation for students who do not meet the entry requirements for direct entry at UK degree level.

All programmes are taught in English.
